COLDPRAY: Coldplay work on new album in church

Featured Replies

I meant Prospekt, I don't get most of the tools here, was a reply to "coldplayisawesome" who replied to me earlier...

I think that it would be awesome if the band would post cool updates from the studio and let us know more about developing songs or art or whatever fun stuff they do.. that would connect with us real fans a lot!

like video updates :cheesy:

R42 could be doing that, though, as i believe he said something about blogging during the recording process.

A church? I'm not sure if I believe this.[/color][/i][/b] A couple of weeks ago The Sun said that their new studio was in a fancy purpose-built house just up the road from the Bakery. Then, R42 said this:

Will asks Phil Harvey whether he can take a look inside on his way home as he hasn't seen inside yet. Phil asks if he knows where it is.

"I know which street it's on, but not which one it is"

"It's....." Phil pauses to find the right words. "It's the skanky looking one"

If it was a church, Phil would have said: "It's...the church." Should be quite obvious then which "house" it is.

Ok, all this speculating is probably useless. I don't know why I'm doing it, lol. But it's fun in a way.

Oh, btw, today I walked past a skanky looking building in North London, close to the Bakery (not because I'm a stalker...because I live there. Believe me! :laugh3: ) and through the windows you could see the banisters of the stairs and they looked exactly like the ones on the photo that R42 posted. But I am aware that the chances that it was the new studio aren't very high. It was a HUGE house as well. :laugh3:

What... you don't think a church can look skanky? :P

I like the stadium atmosphere, that's what brought us the Lovers in Japan butterflies and the cool giant balloons from yellow. I will certainly miss those...

Prospekt is dead, he died in the Czech Republic in a horrific hang-gliding accident. :P

:cry:Poor Prosekt!

One doesn't exclude the other, though. They could be recording at different places. But The Sun is a bit sketchy...

It doesn't matter that much anyway. It's gonna be a while before we'll get solid information. Boo. :dozey:

Eno is bad, acoustic is good, so... I suppose this is neutral news. Although we can't really talk until the new album comes out. It better be better than VLV.

What was wrong with Viva La Vida?

I don't know, it just, you know, sucks.

I think we're going to see Coldplay the band from now on not Coldplay the brand.

THIS!!!!!!!!

THIS!!!!!!!!

THAT INDEED!

noonsun how can you hate an album with Lovers In Japan, Cemetries of London and Strawberry Swing on it?! Amazing songs

They did the butterflies and yellow balloons at the arena and amphitheatre concerts, which usually held 10-15,000 or so. I really liked the magic ball effects when they were able to use the arena rafters to spread out the balls more - the balls were much more mobile in the arena shows I saw. When I think of a stadium, I think of an American football sized stadium, 50-60,000+. Wembley held 80,000ish?

I find this whole thing curious. They've spent the whole Viva interview cycle describing the first 3 albums as a trilogy and Viva being the start of a new area. They've said they have no plans to re-visit Parachutes. What will an acoustic-Viva-era album sound like? And if Eno manages "stripped down," it will be something new for him too :laugh3:. I know Eno is polarizing, some think he's an asset and some think he's not. To me, that doesn't matter as much as with him on-board, we see a band that seems happy, energetic and excited about making music again. So as I chew on all this, I am immensely curious and excited to hear what's coming.

I still like the larger shows, it would be much harder to see them if they played at a 20,000 seater opposed to a 50,000 seater (which are the 2 options in my city, both shows have sold out). I personally think a lot of the newer songs are meant to be played in large venues like LiJ, LiT and as well as some older hits like the scientist, clocks and fix you. They have a sort of stadium atmosphere to it in my mind.

You just named 3 of the worst songs on the album

*le sigh*

It's a taste thing. I understand that. But I think Lovers in Japan and Strawberry swing are just too immense to not be liked.

Um, now that I slept on this news..i have a different approach.

i dont want a purely acoustic album. variety is the spice of life. it should have a little bit of everything. i love acoustic but imagine...everything on the album is acoustic..it would get boring.

and also, the smaller the venue..the harder to get tix. and the more likely i will not be able to see my favorite band of 9 years!

i also like the stadium feel...YES I HATE BEING SO DISTANT FROM THE BAND, THAT IS ADMITTED!

but i liked the butterflies, the part of being part of something epic, special.

but seriously this is deja vu of pre viva days...and now im suspicious and dont trust the Sun

but dont mind me! im a pessimist

Yes to this!

First I was also enthusiastic about it because I love all their acoutic versions but if they really released a whole album with that I would be the first to shout out for a non-acoustic version . I'm so sure about that.

Yes to that!

No to the stadium!

At the last concert I was extremely far away from the band and did not see anything without my binoculars. If that was not rubbish enough most people around me were like "No of course I'm not a Coldplay fan - just wanted to visit an event and have something to tell about.":rolleyes::rolleyes:

In my opinion these people first have too much money and second they are not "worth" visiting a concert of Coldplay because they do not appreciate CP like the fans. They even disturb us with their ignorant behavior. Eating and sitting the whole length of the concert for example. OK that was oversubscribed but a stadium tour always screams for people like this.

Interesting, thanks for the article.

The Sun, has posted an article (creatively titled Coldpray) that gives us some news on Coldplay’s eventual 5th album. The article reports that they are in a chruch recording the studio with Brian Eno, who also produced Viva La Vida.

Chris Martin does not want to become “a huge stadium act”, since it may “disappoint his fans”. Here are the direct quotes from the article:

“Chris is determined not to be seen as a huge commercial rock juggernaut, filling stadiums and cashing in. “This is the plan to keep them as close to their fans as possible.”

This honestly shocked me, because I could have sworn they had U2’s ambition to conquer stadiums. But hell, I am really happy that he is looking out for his fans. After all, they are the ones who are backing you up! Apparently recording in a church is giving the band a lot of creativity!Read the entire article right here. There is not much to report yet, other than that the record is scheduled to come out in 2010. Hopefully we will have more as we get deeper into 2010!

Losers waste time and money, but for charity so it’s OK

Fifty MORONS with nothing better to do have queued up for TWO DAYS to pay FIFTY QUID for tickets to see COLDPLAY.

Sorry about the caps, but we’re staggered. We knew people quite liked Coldplay. They sell a lot of records. A lot. It’s inevitable. But this is a level of devotion – or, let’s face it, idiocy – that frankly staggers us.

The bland (that’s a mixture of bland and band – how clever!) are playing at Exeter Castle (why does Exeter have a castle? Who in their right mind would attack Exeter?) on December 19, their first home town show since 2000.

The BBC reports that fifty people had queued up since Tuesday for the tickets, which went on sale this morning.

Gibbering idiot Charlotte Foster, who clearly has no job, no friends and no life if she can afford to spend two days waiting outside a HMV store for sodding Coldplay tickets, said: “I’ve seen them before and I really like them. It sounds like it will be a really good show. I just thought it’s worth queuing.”

At this point we must point out that the show is for cha-ri-dee, so it’s probably unfair to mock the afflicted that are forking out their hard-earned to go along. The charity in question is Mencap, which ‘represents people with learning disabilities and works to improve services and challenge prejudices’. Ironic really, as the people going to the show are probably the sort of people who Mencap should be helping.

The gig will be hosted by Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley and also stars La Roux and Lily Allen.
