Why did Coldplay do Lost+?

Featured Replies

I hate it, and alternative and rap should not be together. Does anybody know why they agreed to do this? Usually Coldplay doesn't do stuff like this..

I dont agree..

i think the version is different and a intelligent move :wink3:

its great to try new things..

and its not even in the real studio album, its on an ep ...

so,its great :awesome:

they're friends with Jay-Z, and it didn't exactly take a lot of effort, they just overdubbed jay-Z's bit over the solo of the original.

Not sure why. I don't personally care for it, but since they are good friends with jay-z, maybe that's why...

I suspected they were friends with him, I wasn't sure. All forms of Lost are pretty experimental so I guess you're right, juan. It's different, but I'm still not a fan of lost+. Of all generes, r&b and rap are the kinds I care for the least.

I personally love this version....I actually listen to it more than the original. To each their own! But I am also a big Jay-Z fan and I love his new album.....

Martin's fascination with hip hop was shown in the summer of 2006 when he collaborated with rapper Jay-Z for the rapper's comeback album Kingdom Come after the two met earlier in the year. Martin put some chords together for a song known as "Beach Chair" and sent them to Jay-Z who enlisted the help of hip hop producer Dr. Dre to add the drum line to complete the track. The song was performed on 27 September 2006 by the two during Jay-Z's European tour at Royal Albert Hall. In 2007, Martin appeared on a track titled "Part of the Plan" for Swizz Beatz' debut solo album One Man Band Man. Martin has also worked on a solo collaboration with Kanye West, with whom he shared an impromptu jam session during a 2006 concert at Abbey Road Studios. He performed the chorus of Homecoming of Graduation.

Martin is open to all kinds of music. He is known to be a fan of artists such as Irish pop group Westlife, British pop groups Girls Aloud and Take That, American bands, Eisley and This Allure, as well as Canadian indie rock band, Arcade Fire. Solo artists Martin likes include Leona Lewis, and Kylie Minogue. He has also said nu prog group Muse has inspired him in many songs.

;)

I personally think the version is great, as is the normal Lost! and Lost?

Rubbish.

Lost? is way better.

To each their own, right?

It is the worst version of Lost.

I wish it wasn't in Prospekt's March and that ep will be easy to listen to (not having to skip a song and all).

Doing a song together just because you're friends really is not a good idea.

At least if that's the real reason.

if you try something new things not everything works out well.

thumbs up for not being afraid of what people think and trying something new, coldplay!

Agree. Especially with the skipping song part.

Even though the completionist in me still keeps "Lost+" in my iTunes library, it is one of the few songs where I will immediately skip to the next song when it comes on. While I like "Lost!" and love "Lost?", the Jay-Z collab is one of the worst things Coldplay has ever done and totally ruins an otherwise good song.

I think its great! their good friends with jay-z and personally he is my favorite rapper and i think it works really well!

Total white girl moment here, but I didn't like it at all for a long time. Then I saw all the words to Jay-z's part written out once, and I've liked it ever since.

I think his version really does add something to the song thematically. It shifts the meaning a bit and deepens it. And now that I've seen what he's saying on paper, I can always pick out what he's saying and the emotion that's going into it now.

I don't really mind it, its whatever. But my favorite version of Lost is Lost? It's just so much more sentimental.

It too took me a long time to like it, so try to persevere. Now, I cannot listen to the original version without the rap, as it just feels like it's missing so much.
