So, I'm about to graduate and I don't really know what I want to do after having finished uni. I study English Literature, Spanish Linguistics and Business and I've got lots of different ideas, but they are all a bit vague and change all the time.

Working at a record company would be great, especially in the A&R department, but it's nearly impossible to get a job there. Being a translator might be quite interesting too...or working at a museum...or as an editor at a publishing house...or opening my own book shop (that would be absolutely amazing, but I'm not sure if I would take the risk.).

As you can see, I'm ever so slightly confused. :\

Where do you work or what do you want to do? Maybe your answers will inspire me...:)

i actually always tought of being a translator, it would come easy knowing 3 languages

i still have to go back to school. :disappointed: so thinking of what to do after is too far ahead into the future to figure out now.

just look at your options over & over try picture yoursef doing all of them

& then figure out which one seems more suited for you.

I think the bookshop idea is pretty cool,

But maybe it's a risk that should be taken in later life.

Follow what feels right or even what you can get in the world today.

I think being an editor would be very nice too, and it's one of those jobs to can build up from, travel possibly and see the world.

It all depends on how much you put in to it.

 

I know one thing for sure in my situation,

that i don't want to become a religion teacher.

And I'm not allowed to become a primary school teacher.

( that sounds as if i'm a treat to little children D: I'm not )

You have to get honours in Irish.

You basically have to be fluent.

( even though, in primary school, you learn very basic irish D: )

I'd love to be one. :sad: I did 2 weeks work experience with children aged 5 and 6.

They were so cute and just so funny. :nice:

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT open a bookstore. My mom owns one...and they make so little money. I guess it depends where you live, but here people don't shop at little independent bookstores. They go to the huge box stores like Chapters.

i know that before i got pregnant when i wanted to be a flight attendant they asked me for some seriously ridiculous things that sometimes i wonder what they had to do with anything.

I did :nice: and the teacher was amazing. I had her when i was in 5th class ( aged 11) She convinced me to choose art as one of my subjects, even though i didn't do it before in high school :nice:

 

Somethings are just so stupid, and getting a job is hard enough with having little barriers in the way.

You're also only 20, that's so young.

Don't feel sorry for her, she's just lazy.

All she wanted to do was arts.

That would be an amazing job, but just remind yourself that there's so many other jobs out there.

The problem i have is narrowing it down.

I want to do something with science,

or maybe something in arts.

 

Another problem would be the parents,

they're seeing my sister do art college and know she'll get nothing from it.

And now that i've stated my love for science :smart: nerd:P

they'd want me to do that.

I guess I'll just wait and see what happens :shrug: , although it drives me crazy that most of my friends keep doing work experiences and have such clear ideas of what they want to do.

At the moment I volunteer for a museum and I get to read lots of poetry and to talk about it and I'm really enjoying it.

All I know is that I don't want to sit in an office for 8 hours a day...

but just think about all the interesting things you'll learn in a museum :nice:
