My government already kidnaps, extorts, and cages people for doing things like possessing plant matter. And many other "offenses" with no victim! 2. I did commit a misdemeanor! Or at least that's what I was charged with. The only reason I wasn't beaten was because I complied with the men in costumes (do as we say and you won't be hurt). There really isn't an operative difference between governments - they are only threats of violence. To avoid the violence, just don't live in that country! Or just don't do that thing which garners a violent reaction from the government! It's quite simple. ;)

It's quite simple. ;) I don't know your personal experiences or circumstances, so I have no idea whether you were unfairly treated by the powers-that-be. However, if you are a "native" of a country which has repressive laws and punishments, it isn't that simple to just "not live there". I will certainly not go and live in Saudi Arabia, but then, I have a choice.;)

Get reading! ;) The point is, whether something is "unlawful" in a certain country or not, and irrespective of whether you agree with that law, the punishment still needs to fit the "crime", and clearly being "flogged" simply for possessing a mobile phone in a school, or for wearing trousers (as happened in Sudan) is totally inappropriate, and nothing short of barbaric.:dozey: If you have received similar punishment for something so petty, then you have my sympathy, of course, as it should never have happened.;)
