If Coldplay played the Super Bowl...

Featured Replies

If and when Coldplay gets the chance to play the super bowl and has 12 minutes to play, what do you think their set list should be? I think it would be

Clocks

Viva La Vida

Yellow

Fix You

I don't think they would actually, and if they did I would be scorning.

Your setlist seems correct, but probably something newer too instead of one of those songs since they would most likely have new songs by then. I would love to see them at the Super Bowl. :D

I immediately thought of that when The Who were playing at halftime. It was a great game anyways, I personally love both the Colts and the Saints.

Coldplay definitely deserves to play at the Superbowl, and hopefully soon, no doubt about it. However, I think that the band would have to go in a rockier direction when they're on stage. There are still many Americans who hate Coldplay and their music because they're too "soft." The game would be the perfect way to break barriers and realize to the world how amazing the boys are.

I'd say the best way to go in a setlist would be Politik, Clocks, and something from X&Y and VLV. Even Glass of Water could work. Remember CP headlining Glastonbury in 2002? Imagine the energy they could bring to the stadium. :D

I'm pretty sure they have 15 minutes to play, possibly even 16 depending on how setup goes.

2002.

Coldplay would be a great act for the super bowl. I'm glad they ditchd the crappy mtv pop acts, but the old rock acts of the stones, bruce springsteen, and the who is definitely feeling dated, and coldplay would easily be the most agreeable modern rock act for the job.

And yeah, Yellow, Clocks and VLV are the obvious choices. While I perfectly understand the inclusion of fix you, I expect and hope that either those 3 will suffice (most halftime shows are abbreviated medley's anyway) or some future single would take its place.

And they're still superb live since then.

I feel like Fix You might not even work for that, since the first half or however much is slow.

I feel like they would do Clocks, VLV, possibly Violet Hill and *I would hope* Talk.

Yellow maybe, but I feel like that one also isn't quite "fast" enough. I really don't know though.

How is yellow not fast enough? They're playing it really fast this tour already, and its faster than most of what the Who played. In any case, they can't NOT play it, it's like the Who not playing baba o'riley. I suspect if Coldplay ever did play halftime, they'd close with Yellow.

Yes, but they headlined Glastonbury in 2002 with their more rockier album AROBTTH, with a couple of good Parachutes songs thrown in. The difference is that if they tried to play it with something like the softer more poppy VLV material, it... erm... well...

Well they don't outright suck, how did they manage to make at least two fairly good albums?

Well, one, at least.

1. It would be retarded if they did.

2. Even they aren't dumb enough to play a slow sad song like Fix You at the biggest sports party in the world.

3. It would be retarded if they did.

I don't see them playing for the superbowl. For the WWC (soccer) maybe (since Jonny & Will are massiv soccer fans) but american football... :inquisitive: Dunno, they would seem out of place to me.
