March 11, 201016 yr What's exacctly over-produced? I don¡t really like VLV (don't kill me) and I prefer much more X&Y and AROBTH, it's just like the other Coldplay... I hope they go back to that kind of songs. Don't worry, you're not the only one, I didn't really like VLVODAAHF when it first came out either. I liked Violet Hill when it came out as a single; but when I listened to the full album I was like wtf is this sh*t. I didn't listen to it again for 9 months (I'm not kidding). Then I finally broke down and bought the album a few months before the concert, and that's when I started to like it. I love most of the songs now. But it is still at the bottom of the four, because I abhor two of the songs. And I just can't call an album in which I intentionally skip more than one song my favorite, no matter how good the other songs are. It makes me cringe to skip any Coldplay song, let alone two on one album.
March 11, 201016 yr I was listening to this album all day long, just couldn't get enough of it. It wasn't the same with Viva la Vida... Maybe I have changed a lot in 3 years. :)
March 11, 201016 yr My X&Y would be 1. Square One 2. A Message 3. What If 4. Talk 5. White Shadows 6. Swallowed In The Sea 7. The Hardest Part (acousitc) <-VLV tour version 8. Speed Of Sound 9. Things I Don't Understand 10. Gravity 11. Twisted Logic 12. Fix You [Maybe] Til Kingdome Come (hidden track) X&Y and Low are not so good, not even Twisted Logic but sometimes it's good. Singles should have been: - Square One - Fix You [although this one is the ultimate closure I think it should reamain the second cause it's the best song and it should be release right away] - A Message - Speed Of Sound/Talk [maybe both] - Swallowed In The Sea (digital)
March 11, 201016 yr I like many songs live better, since there's not as much computer sounds =) like square one for instance, I think it's way better live

March 12, 201016 yr i love everything theyve produced but i hated most of the songs on this album. i agree with ppl when they say XnY was rubbish. i hated the harest part in XnY but love the acoustic version they were playing during vlv tour.
March 12, 201016 yr You're missunderstanding the word 'produced'. We're talking about the production, mixing, engineering etc... of the album, not the songs.

I hope they go back to that kind of songs. You're really not the only one! I think like you! My favorite album is X&Y, I really love it, it's magic and so special, the best album of the world! It has the most beautiful songs, White Shadows and has Low, Twisted Logic, Speed Of Sound, Square One, X&Y, A Message, Swallowed In The Sea, etc... I don't know why, can be just a coincidence, but the Singles of the albuns always for me are the songs I hear less! For example: Parachutes, songs that I don't hear much: Yellow. AROBTTH: The Scientist, i'm so sorry, but I hate The Scientist! X&Y: Fix You and The Hardest Part. And VLV: i'm so sorry again, but I hate Viva La Vida!:( Don't kill me for both songs!
March 12, 201016 yr Overproduced? Absolutely not! I don't want to miss any song of it, to be honest there's not even one song I dislike from Coldplay.. :)
March 12, 201016 yr I don't think so: 1- I discovered Coldplay because of X&Y(speed of sound was always on the radio and I was like: that is fantastic who sings it?-and I then I descovered Coldplay...) 2- X&Y is the best album in the WORLD 3- my favourite song ever is from X&Y(Speed Of Sound) 4- Chris voice is gorgeous in it 5- It's Coldplay so it can and only be gorgeous.
March 13, 201016 yr You're missunderstanding the word 'produced'. We're talking about the production, mixing, engineering etc... of the album, not the songs. i didnt misunderstand wht u meant by produced:confused:. Yes i believe it had to much layering of the same or different instruments on every single song. those same songs sound lovely when sung live with few or no syths
March 13, 201016 yr I liked speed of sound alot....but the other songs on the album didn't stick to me like glue like there previous album Rush of Blood to the Head, i loved everyone of them on that album!!!
March 14, 201016 yr Call me an idiot but what does "overproduced" actually mean? For me, two things always come to mind... One is a more technical explanation like some here have already said better than I could (about post production, mixing, etc.). The other is to consider a song as recorded on an album, and then comparing to how the same band plays the same song live. A great example has already been mentioned in this thread - comparing "The Hardest Part" on the X&Y album with the same song played live on LRLRL. There is a huge difference. Some bands sound exactly the same on their albums as they do live. As an example, one of my other favorite bands, The Pixies. They recorded their albums just as they would play live (at least as far as I can tell). Just very natural with the band members singing, playing acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and drums. Nothing else was generally added. I really love a lot of the songs on X&Y, but there are a few I don't like as much, but I could say the same thing about any Coldplay album. It is definitely a different sound from their other albums, and some of the songs are very similar to one another on the same album. As far as "overproduced" goes, you could probably say the same thing about a few of the tracks on Viva la Vida, like the title track. Obviously, you hear string instruments in the song, but there are not any such instruments on stage in the live show. I think X&Y just gets the label more because it is more "electronic" sounding with samples, rather than layers of sounds from physical instruments. Personally, I wish more bands would release alternate versions of their original studio albums, because I really love the more "live" sound of certain bands and performers. As an example, if you've ever listened to Dido's concert DVD, in my opinion it blows away the studio recordings found on her albums - I would love to have a version of that sans the audience and cheering. I would love it if someday Coldplay released some kind of box set with new, stripped down versions of all of their albums, recorded in a studio setting. Not that it would be better, just different. Jason
March 14, 201016 yr I don't care that much for What If or Low. I like Speed of Sound, but not live. The rest of the album is good though.
March 14, 201016 yr I liked X&Y, the only song I didn't like at all was White Shadows. It's probably my least favorite Coldplay song. :D
March 14, 201016 yr What the eff, it sounds like I'm the only one here who likes "What If". :dozey: I'm like the only one who likes Low!!! (alart from WeddingDom :) )
