March 23, 201016 yr i guess i should make some contribution to this discussion as it has been on my mind all morning. i was thinking if i got the chance to DJ a party or a club what music out of my music library would i play. after spending half n hour scrolling up and down the lists, i found next to nothing aside from the odd daft punk classic. then i went over to the top 40 charts. and found lady gaga, kesha, kid cudi, rihanna, black eyed peas. music i find painful to listen to but in the right atmoshpere ie a party or club this stuff sounds much much better than your critically acclaimed alternative masterpieces. it gets people dancing and makes them feel good even if it is incredibly superficial and stupid. and i must admit ive been loving the kid cudi/ david guetta song, no idea what its called but it sounds pretty awesome. I agree with everything you said and the David Guetta/Kid Cudi song Is called "Memories" I also must admit that I do like some pop songs on the top 40 When we I go to parties, they put on a lot of pop and rap but we don't care. We just get out and have fun

March 24, 201016 yr You took the words out of my mouth - unfortunately my friends all like Kesha (why they do is beyond me :laugh3:) and although I TRY to gently introduce them to better music, they've already been 'brainwashed' by the so-called music industry into just listening to any old pop junk that is churned out :veryangry2: I'm not saying I'm against all pop music, as some of it is actually quite good (note 'quite') but most of it is computer-generated, cover-your-ears-in-pain :P stuff... However, it annoys me when incredible bands like Coldplay are classed as pop (as then it is accused by indies as 'selling out' - something I won't start a rant on though I'd like to!) or is classed by the brainwashed people as 'depressing' or 'emo' - I really won't rant about that, as it would take me til next Tuesday :laugh3: But yeah, 'music' - I'm just going to call it noise, as it isn't worthy of being called music! - by the likes of Kesha really brings down the reputation of other, decent pop and just goes to show what most of the industry has come to - like everything else, it is dumbed down so people can just mindlessly listen and not even go in search of other, FAR better music... Sorry for the essay :D

March 24, 201016 yr Yeah because people enjoying things that they like is terrible and shouldn't be allowed, they should only like what you like. There is no such thing as "better" music you pretentious pricks,
March 24, 201016 yr When i did study in school on thursdays, there was also dance classes going on in the hall. They were doing a routine to that song and you could hear it pretty loud. I didn't mind the song too much, but after hearing it so many times while studying i have grown to hate it.

March 24, 201016 yr I actually kinda like this song, I mean it's kinda catchy, and it makes me want to dance. Same goes for Lady Gaga's new song, which I was jammin to the other day.
March 24, 201016 yr That figures. You really couldn't make it up................................. :laugh3:

March 24, 201016 yr i dont see how coldplay isnt pop. their sound is exactly what is "popular" and has been for the last few years. i will admit viva la vida was a slight departure from that but everything else theyve done fits perfectly into at least what i would consider as being "pop music". in saying that they are the best pop band of the last 20-30years and Yellow is possibly one of the greatest pop songs ever written.

I have to agree honestly. Many say that silversun pickups are indie, and they are sort of right.. But when "Panic Switch" came out, they were categorized more as pop
March 25, 201016 yr Indie is not a genre <3 Oooooh! I love Lady GaGa :wacky:  I LEFT MY HEAD AND MY HEART ON THE DANCEFLOOR

Fair comment. Irrespective of "genre", Coldplay are one of the best bands of the last 20-30 years full-stop.
