I just don't like Muse that much :smug:

I really don't know why, I just don't like them :wacky:

No piano riffs or guitars or whatever. i just gah. have this deep hate for most of their stuff.

those smileys don't match the sentences at all.

Chris ^^ Voltaire or Leibinz? Quickly and why....

For me it's Radiohead, then Coldplay, then Muse. I enjoy the three, but Radiohead makes different music. And as mentioned before, Radiohead and Coldplay are on a greater composing level, but Muse is very fun and full of energy. Radiohead is easily my favourite band among the three, but sometimes grabbing the guitar and playing Supermassive Black Hole with lots of reverbi means lots of fun.

BAHAHAHA! Muse have released a new song today... Exogenesis: Symphony Part 4 (Salvation).

I thought it was very fitting for this "discussion":

It hurts my ears. :D

Some of the youtube replies are better than the joke itself. :nice:

Hey, that was a pretty good one...yes, a smidge better than Coldplay's...although I was expecting Coldplay to do something. Well done, Muse.

Well that was pretty shit.

Muse ain't that bad..

Coldplay is good.

Radiohead is perfection.

But Matt's voice can be annoying, tries to sound too girlie or too manly.

Composition, bleh, I've heard better stuff, but yes, they do have some good songs.

No big comparison with Radiohead. At least I can't see similarities, Radiohead is just on another level, a level CP and Muse can't reach.

Ah yes, I hate Muse.

I haven't read more than 4 or 5 posts, but this thread has gotten more play than I would have imagined. It's like a hot button issue.

In places Matt Bellamy can sound like Thom Yorke. But if you ever notice, Matt has this annoying habit of inhaling before singing particular lines in a very audible way.

I've seen Muse twice and although i've thought that they were excellent live and brilliant on their instruments, I just think they should've maybe stopped one or two albums ago. There's just something souless and detached in their songs. I just don't see any significant evolution in their work in the from the last three albums.

this.

This is me. :smug:

I find Bellamy's big, guitar-hero persona too much. Big rock-god ego - no thanks. I have given Muse's music a try in the past, but wasn't quite for me, it's not bad, but not particlarly great either imo. I don't get all the fuss about them supposedly being all innovative and original, I just don't hear it.

Having said that, I don't much care for any post-OK Computer Radiohead either. I think their best work was The Bends. They are innovative, yes, but not quite my cup of tea these days.

And Coldplay....meh... Coldplay are Coldplay, I'm always gonna love at least 90% of the stuff they churn out. :D

I agreed with most of this. I have 2 Muse albums & I've seen them live. I still don't get what all the fuss is about. They're OK. Bellamy is trying too hard to get his band to sound like Queen. Most of The Resistance was borrowed from A Night at the Opera. I thought the album was very contrived and unorginal. I used to find Bellamy's voice really overwhelming and hard to listen to, but I didn't know how to describe it. Then I read a music critic's review that called him a singer with a "whiny operatic voice." I guess he summed it up best. This is why I can only listen to Muse in small portions. It's basically an acquired taste. That's why they're so cult-like around here.

I have always loved everything Coldplay has done and always will.

I don't listen to a lot of Radiohead. I have only one of their albums, Pablo Honey. Then again, then they never ever tour in my city. So whatever.

^Pablo Honey is like bleh, though. You gotta give everything else a try :wacky:

this.

I agreed with this as well. Muse can be very soulless. I don't relate to any of their music on a personal level. I never find myself singing their songs in the shower, or anywhere. Although I think Matt Bellamy is a talented musician, he has a very boring personality. He doesn't have the charisma Chris Martin does. Matt is very generic looking as well. If you saw him on a airplane, then you'd probably mistake him for an average Joe. Unlike Coldplay, Muse has very little heart or soul.

I disagree with that. I just don't think the band's sound has evolved at all, something Coldplay was heavily criticized for after X&Y. Also Matt Bellamy needs to breathe in through his nose.

Jeez, I never knew that Matt's breathing annoyed so many people. Contrary to popular belief, he is human. :p

For someone who hasn't been trained in singing (or any other instrument he plays) I think he does an amazing job on his vocals.

So are you saying that because it's unlikely people will recognise the members of Muse, they have very little heart or soul?

haha. It's funny, but breathing can annoy a lot of people, including me. Inhaling in the microphone just before singing a line can be irritating...

Your last point was a bit unnecessary...I don't know of many singers who have been trained.

Well, Chris Martin for one, has been and is still being trained.

the only on stage thing that matt bellamy does that really annoys me is the way he often says stuff to the audience while he still has the effects running on his mic so it comes out sounding like distorted nonsense. otherwise i think he is awesome, but out of the 3 frontmen we're talking about here, i would say he is the weakest but he is in esteemed company.

I agree with the whole frontman bit, though I don't know too much about Thom York as a frontman. :)

I disagree with this, but hey, we're all different. I think it's a good thing that Muse can sell out Wembley Stadium twice and yet could probably walk down the street without being recognised. As a frontman that connects with the audience, Matt is nothing special. But as a vocalist and musician, he is one of the best in the last 20 years. Basically Muse let their music do the talking and their is no political gesturing or charity campaigning. By the way I do love Coldplay, but Muse move me a lot more. But like I say, horses for courses. ;)

This! :)

At a Muse gig, I don't expect Matt to say more than the odd "Cheers" or "Thanks". There's barely any banter at their shows, that is replaced by riffs and instrumentals.

This! :)

Indeed. Sometimes Dom says more than Matt. ;) But I like Chris because he says nothing but just stands there looking cool and playing those amazing bass lines.

I have nothing against charities and political things but, I've never liked it how bands like Coldplay and U2 support charities as much as they do. I prefer it like how Radiohead do it...which is basically not doing it so publicly as the others. So in this case, go Muse! :cheesy:
