June 20, 201214 yr So England are through! While the ball clearly crossed the line it was only rough justice as in the build up one of the Ukranian players were clearly offside as shown above. Two poor offside decisions that should have gone against England tonight but neither harmed them. Bad night for the officials though. It was not pretty by a long stretch but I'm afraid that's the only way England will churn out results. Some strong performances from the English players though. Lescott and Terry were very good tonight, no doubt helped by having someone as fine a goalkeeper as Joe Hart (taken 10 years to find a player as good if not better than David Seaman). Gerrard led the team brilliantly again tonight. England's best player so far? England v Italy then! Will be intriguing. Neither have much of a history together which is surprising considering both nations stature in the game. Last time they met competitively was the 1998 World Cup qualifiers in Rome when England secured qualification with a well fought 0-0 draw I believe. The last time they played each other at all was over 10 years back in March 2002 when Italy ran out 2-1 winners in a friendly (Robbie Fowler getting the English goal I believe!). It will be a somewhat alien atmosphere in which history doesn't offer much in the way of insight for this game so it will be down to who ever can grasp the moment in front of them. p.s - how poor were France tonight? Only saw the highlights but come on?! Must do and WILL do better against Spain.
June 20, 201214 yr Sepp Blatter eyes goal-line technology after England win Fifa president Sepp Blatter has renewed his call for the introduction of goal-line technology after a controversial incident in England's 1-0 win over Ukraine helped eliminate the co-hosts. Marko Devic's shot crossed the line in the game in Donetsk but was not given. Goal-line technology could be approved by the International Football Association Board on 5 July. "After last night's match #GLT is no longer an alternative but a necessity," Blatter tweeted. Uefa president Michel Platini prefers the system of five match officials. But he stated on Monday that he expects the IFAB meeting in Zurich to give one of two goal-line systems currently being tested the go-ahead. If that is the case, individual associations can decide whether to use the technology in their competitions. That means Uefa could still decide not to implement the system. The Premier League has previously stated its willingness to make the change. Uefa's chief refereeing officer Pierluigi Collina has defended the officiating at the tournament, claiming two similar decisions in previous games were correct. Collina said: "We made a mistake. June 20, 201214 yr Judgment calls are always the point of controversy, and if it can be lessened, go ahead! GLT should be used, as minimal as possible, but should be used imo. On a sidenote, #42 on the Coldplaying league lol (get it?)

I'm glad that France advance, though. They're playing great football.

June 21, 201214 yr I hope that Portugal and Germany win their matches. And the same applies to Spain and England. According to a plan I have seen then the winner of match between Germany & Greece (hopefully Germany) will have to play against the winner of the match between England and Italy (both teams seem to be able to win that match - not easy to forecast). And the winner of the match between Czech Republic and Portugal will have to play against the winner of the match between Spain and France (probably Spain). In all cases interesting matches ahead.
