Chris Martin's sister is determined to make it to the top on her own merits as an actress

 

Chris Martin's sister has set her sights on a career in showbusiness, but won't take advantage of her famous relations.

 

With Chris Martin, the Coldplay singer, as her brother and the Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow as her sister-in-law, Nicola Martin would not have any difficulty exploiting her showbusiness connections.

 

The 19 year-old tells Mandrake that she is, however, determined to pursue a career on her own merits. "I am working in a local pub to fund my acting," she says.

 

"I am just trying to make it in the industry at the moment. It isn't easy, but, luckily, I have landed a small role in an upcoming British indie film. My agents have put me up for lots of other stuff, but some of it has been a touch unrealistic." Nicola, who grew up in Devon, will begin an English and Film degree course at King's College, London, in October: "Hopefully, I'll be able to do well and continue, even after I have started at King's."
