deaths_friend
SJM Concerts managing director Simon Moran said a record one million tickets were sold in one day. "We coped with it in the best way possible," he said. Ticket agency Ticketmaster also said sorry for the "frustrating delays". Robbie Williams will rejoin his bandmates on the road for the first time in 16 years when they play at least 25 stadium shows in the UK and Ireland next summer. Take That outside Radio 1 Robbie Williams (right) has rejoined the group for the tour and a new album In a statement, the band said they were "speechless" and "truly and utterly shocked" at the speed of the sales. "To sell one million tickets in a day is mind blowing and we think we'll be in shock for a few days," they said. "We want to thank everyone who has bought tickets today and look forward to seeing them next year." More fans will watch the Progress Live tour than any other tour in UK and Irish history - beating the group's previous record set in 2009. Although the official ticket agencies regularly updated their ticketing systems, they "didn't work today", he admitted. We have undoubtedly seen an unparalleled level of demand today” "We did our best to ensure we used all of the major ticketing platforms," he said. "They're the market leaders. It's unfortunate but we have sold 950,000 tickets so people have bought them over the course of time." The website for Ticketmaster, one of the ticket agencies selected, received 20 million page views on Friday. That was "far in excess" of the number seen when tickets for Michael Jackson's planned comeback concerts at the O2 arena in London went on sale last spring, the company said. Ticket agents "struggled to cope with the sheer volume of people", Ticketmaster admitted. "We had planned for the demand for Take That tickets to potentially exceed anything we'd ever experienced before at Ticketmaster, and believed that we would be able to respond," a statement said. "But we have undoubtedly seen an unparalleled level of demand today and whilst hundreds and thousands of tickets have been sold, we know that many of our consumers have experienced frustrating delays in securing their tickets. "We apologise for these problems and acknowledge that this is far from the experience we usually deliver." The band's tour will include seven nights at the City of Manchester Stadium and a further seven at Wembley Stadium. They will also stop in Sunderland, Cardiff, Glasgow, Dublin and Birmingham. Many dates are now sold out. crazy stuff!! i had no idea they were this popular. the first 4 wembley dates are completely sold out and the remaining 3 are sure to go too. after these 7 shows they will be 3rd in terms of most shows headlined at wembley with 11 the behind the stones (12) and MJ (15) just to put this into context. bands like U2, Muse, Coldplay and Oasis have only managed to do 2 or 3 night stays at the venue. michael jackson at the peak of his career in 1988 played 7 nights at the venue. Guest howyousawtheworld
It's unbelievable, but I think the factor of getting 2 shows in 1 really helps because Robbie Williams will be playing his solo hits like Angels as well I think. That must have been a huge selling point. But credit where credit's due - those guys have done phenomenally well since they returned 4 years back. It's quite an achievement. Arguably bigger this time round than the last time.

mc_squared
It isn't all good news though:rolleyes:: 'Hello Cheryl? It's Robbie...' Take That want Cheryl Cole to support them on sell-out 2011 tour By Mail Online Showbiz Reporter Last updated at 4:33 PM on 30th October 2010 Comments (114) Add to My Stories She is one of the most in-demand women in the UK right now, and Cheryl Cole has just landed herself some more fans. Take That have revealed that the X Factor judge is their number one choice to support them on their tour next year. Cheryl arrived at the X Factor studios yesterday with her mobile phone glued to her ear. 'Let's talk': Cheryl Cole arrives at the X Factor studios yesterday on her phone Dressed in dark skinny jeans, gold heels and a warm navy coat, Cheryl waved to fans as she chatted on her way from her chauffeured Mercedes into the studio. Take That revealed they were a fan of the Promise This singer during an interview with BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills. More... It's the mother of all scrambles as pregnant fan gets her hands on Take That tickets... but thousands miss out as websites crashOne more disaster for One Direction as fan is injured in rush to see boy bandREVIEW OF CHERYL COLE'S NEW ALBUM: Don't mime, Cheryl: You're no Aretha, but you CAN sing! When the radio host asked them who would be joining on the 2011 tour, which starts in Sunderland on May 30, the band were at first coy on the topic. 'We had a talk about it yesterday actually,' Robbie Williams said. 'And a few names have been thrown about and we're asking them at the minute, so we better not say.' 'Do you have her direct line?': Take That said during an interview on Radio 1 that Cheryl was their pick to support them on their UK tour When Cheryl's name was brought up Mark Owens enthused, 'Do you have her direct line?' Rapper Tinie Tempah has also been mooted as a potential support act. The Take That boys also chatted at length about their favourite X Factor finalists during the thirty minute-long interview. Robbie, who sang during the finals last year with runner up Olly Murs, asked how 17-year-old Cher Lloyd was progressing, while Gary Barlow said he liked Mary Byrne and Matt Cardle. Asked if they liked One Direction, they said the youngsters reminded them of themselves. 'They're quite good, they're like us when we started.' 'They're tiny,' Robbie added. 'They're like five Mark Owens. Owens slash Bieber.' Fans: The revelation was made during an interview on Radio 1 Thousands of Take That fans were left devastated yesterday when ticket websites crashed, unable to cope with the high demand. However, a statement from the group urged Take That fans to keep trying as tickets are currently still available to buy. The statement read: 'Due to totally unprecedented demand all ticket agents have struggled to cope with the number of people logging on to try and buy Take That tickets.' The tour went on sale at 9am and tickets had already sprung up on eBay by last night with many on sale for upwards of £10,000. Last night, 35 fans were embroiled in a fierce bidding war on eBay. With hours still to go on the auction for two standing at Wembley, the price had reached £999,999. Another auction had received a bid of £375,000, while dozens were offering tickets priced between £20,000 and £60,000. Music promoter Harvey Goldsmith said: ‘This is an absolute mess. Half the people putting things up for sale online don’t actually even have them and are taking advantage of the fact that people panic, and they are vulnerable. ‘You also have unscrupulous people who have no interest in Take That or whichever band and realise they can pay for their next holiday or their extension simply by getting hold of tickets and adding a huge mark-up.’ Extra dates were added to cope with the demand, taking the total number of UK shows to 25, and Robbie Williams posted a comment on the Twitter website pleading with fans to use official outlets. He said: ‘Please do not purchase tickets from unofficial agents or eBay; we cannot vouch for their authenticity and you could end up out of pocket.’ Do you have a story about a celebrity? Reilly
Howyousawtheworld said it, it's a huge thing because it's 2 shows in one, Robbie has a huge following and Take That came back in incredible style, it had been said that Robbie would never re-join them (But to be honest I knew he would, his career is going nowhere, Rudebox LUL) so that may have been PR to build up this tension. Now that he has done, women in their 30's are ruining their undergarments. It isn't all good news though:rolleyes:: Thanks for that un-necessarily big news item, but what are you talking about? How does that relate to what's being discussed and how could one assume this article is bad news?
*Sarah*
i'm slightly worried about robbie though, with his stage fright and everything. he didn't want to tour when his last album was released and now he's doing seven nights at wembley... :blank:

deaths_friend
OI , wait a sec. If Oasis would of given everyone a ticket at Knebworth they could've played 53 nights ! BEAT THAT , TAKE THAT ! yeah Oasis at their peak were quite the force. it's something to have people register for tickets for no charge but to actually put bums on seats (or feet on grass in Knebworths case) is another matter all together. and i dont even think this is take that at their peak, they peaked in the mid-90s which makes this feat all the more incredible. and the fact that most americans dont have a clue who they are is really funny

I very much doubt that people would spend hours trying to get tickets if they're not even sure whether they'll be going to the show. Robbie Williams played at Knebworth for three nights back in 2003 and had an audience of about 375000 people.
