Prince William to marry Kate Middleton (AKA so, this royal wedding...)

Prince William is to marry long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton next year, Clarence House has announced.

William, second in line to the throne, will marry in London next spring or summer and live in north Wales, where he is serving with the RAF.

"We are both very, very happy," the prince said. He had proposed on holiday in Kenya in October, giving his fiancee his mother's engagement ring. Miss Middleton said joining the Royal Family was a "daunting prospect".

"Hopefully I'll take it in my stride," she added. The couple, both 28, met at St Andrews University, Fife. William said using Diana's ring was "my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today and the excitement".

Prince Charles said he was "thrilled, obviously" about the engagement, joking: "They've been practising long enough."

Kate Middleton's parents Michael and Carole said they were "absolutely delighted" and "thrilled" by the news. Her father said: "We have got to know William really well, we all think he is wonderful and we are extremely fond of him.

"They make a lovely couple, are great fun to be with and we've had a lot of laughs together. We wish them every happiness for the future."

The royal engagement was announced in a brief statement released by Clarence House. It said: "The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. "The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course."

She comes across as a confident sweet and classy lady.

Good luck to them. Have a lot of time and respect for Prince William so this is no bad thing I guess.

Please allow there to be a public holiday next year when the wedding is on.

Public holiday yes please

This is amazing- a lovely couple, doing it right.

I hope the world celebrates with them.:)

Well put. And nice gesture with Diana's engagement ring. :sunny:

Ahhh yes a bank holiday is on the cards.

Cheers Bill and Kate!

Bill haha.

Out of curiosity why do you respect William?

By the way I couldn't care less like most people who aren't pensioners.

I don't have a problem with Wills either, but the wedding doesn't really interest me.

Just watched them take the piss out of it as a news item on HIGNFY. When the thought that this news item may cheer up the country in the economic climate, Kevin Bridges: "As if it's not bad enough that you lose your job, now you have 6 months of shite TV".

Most young people won't give a fuck about this (Certainly not to correlate with the amount of news coverage it's getting), and I can't wait for the day when my generation is the older one and we can all stop pretending that we really care about what the Royals do.

Who honestly cares about Wills and what's her names big day, to me it's in the same league as Jordans wedding, people I'm competly uninterested in, who I have no respect for getting married in front of the cameras, hearing about it until now until the date is going to piss me off further.

I actually think I have slightly more interest in Jordan's life because she's so ruthless and fucked it's kindof interesting, but 2 normal well adjusted fairly good looking people getting married? Fuck off.

Hahaha.

I just don't like the whole go crazy 'Celebrity' culture, yes there are famous people I respect greatly for thier music, acting ability, sporting ability or other achivements, there are famous people I find attractive but I have absolutely no interest in thier day to day lives, I don't care what dress Kate may or may not wear for her special wedding next year to a guy who is famous simpily because he was born to certain parents, I don't care what Cheryl thinks about the latest X Factor contestant or what colour her hair is this week.

Fucking Heat magazine celebrity culture bullshit, I wish the population as a whole would just grow up and stop being obsessed by such mindless drivel.

Sorry rant over:).

*Standing ovation* :awesome:

*Well a one man ovation* :nice:

Hey I might make a thread about that.

I just don't like the whole go crazy 'Celebrity' culture, yes there are fampus people I respect greatly for thier music, acting ability, sporting ability or other achivements, there are famous people I find attractive but I have absolutely no interest in thier day to day lives, I don't care what dress Kate may or may not wear for her special wedding net year to a guy who is famous simpily because he was born to certain parents, I don't care what Cheryl thinks about the latest X Factor contestant or what colour her hair is this week.

Fucking Heat magazine celebrity culture bullshit, I wish the population as a whole would just grow up and stop being obsessed by such mindless drivel.

I absolutely agree!

Like most people in this country I'm not overly obsessed with the Royals as they are quite a dysfunctional family but nor am I some ignorant republican as I see massive benefits to the Monarchy as it preserves our democracy and brings in more money to this country in tourist money alone than we pay into it. As for William he is a fantastic role model for the Royal Family. He is incredibly charitable and isn't afraid to get stuck in. He seems a very normal bloke in amongst a not so normal family. Oh and the above post is absolutely correct. It is very heat magazine the storm over this wedding is. I mean if it's a bank holiday I won't be watching it. History never bothers with weddings of big figures in society so why should it start now? Besides it's a bank holiday I'll watch a DVD or something!
