I've got my mixtape today and I already downloaded it and listened to it once! But, dear mixtape maker, I like to listen to the songs more than once before posting a review so you'll have to wait some days ;) I hope it'll be ok for you!

Hello, I'm Natt. I'm the maker of this very here tape.

Without further adieu, here is my review.

I adore this tape. I loved a few songs and liked all of them. Thank you to my mixtape maker for having such great taste! I've listened to it quite a few times already, so here are my thoughts on each track...

D'awww thanks. I looked at your music taste and went down the road of bands you like that I like therefore bands I thought you might also like.I'm glad that it worked!

1) Ok. I am in love with this song. It's gorgeous, and a really great opener to the tape. It set a really nice mood for the mixtape as a whole. The piano is my favourite part! Also I am interested to know who sings this...I feel like I may have heard some tracks from them before. The singer has a unique accent that I can't put my finger on; it sounds like he is saying "sometimes friendship feels you" but I think it must be "fools you"? Either way, a lovely track.

This band got the same reaction on the last mixtape exchange. It makes me wonder why they are not more well known. Anyway, the unusual accent you're talking about is an extremely thick Irish one-- and the word is actually fails. Ram's Pocket Radio - Friendship Fails You.

2) Love the beat on this one. I really like the guitar too. The singer has a cool voice and I like the way it kind of dips in the chorus. I have no idea what he's saying half the time though! Once I get the name of the track I'm definitely looking up the lyrics because I really like the song other than that.

This voice is one to divide the masses. But I love it, because when you actually see the singer this is not what you expect. The track is 'Lamplight' by Bombay Bicycle Club. Now you've mentioned it... I don't think I know all of the lyrics to this properly yet :laugh3:

3) I know this one! Grapevine Fires by Death Cab for Cutie. I looovvee this song. It's so beautiful. I actually considered putting this one on my tape but left it out at the last minute. Excellent choice though, it's a great song. I just love the lyrics.

Yeperoo. Love Death Cab.

4) Very cool track. I like how it's really chill at first, and then it kind of kicks it up a notch when the drums come in. And I love the intrumental part where he's singing the "oh"s. This guy has a nice voice.

The first time I heard this track was it being performed live on a beach believe it or not; just a man and a guitar. This is 'This Old Dark Machine' by James Vincent McMorrow. If you like this, you'll like the other tracks on his album because it's all beautiful.

5) Lovely instrumentals on this track. For some reason they remind a little bit of Stairway to Heaven. And the vocalist reminds me of Matt Bellamy, if only just for very brief moments. Nice song.

Matt Bellamy reference FTW. But I can't make the comparison because I know this is definitely not the case as I saw them live first before hearing any of their bands. This is the 3rd Irish band/artist on the mixtape: Sacred Animals with 'Wired, Islands'

6) I love this song! The beginning is fantastic, and then the song just keeps getting better and better. I love the vocalist ahhh! I can't wait to find out who this is. :)

Brilliant taste you are having and you're just getting in as the debut album gets released (well at the end of June). This is 'The King and All of His Men' by Wolf Gang. Definitely check more of them (also I love the Joe Goddard remix of this track too)

7) Yet another great song! Super catchy. I can already feel the odd stares from my friends when they hear me singing "what did you expeecctt from post break-up seeexxxx?"!!

You will immediately recognise the name of the band as the previous mixtapes in the thread all have a track from them... It's because they are that good and have rocketed to massive in 0.2 seconds. No surprise that the song is called 'Post Break-Up Sex' and it's by The Vaccines.

8) Fantastic dance, electro-y beat. Very catchy, good lyrics, good vocals. I like it.

I had a massive hard time choosing which of The Wombat's tracks to put on here. I'm glad I used the right one then! They're a really lovely British band who are really in to quirky, not-to-serious, upbeat music. This is taken from their second album (which, admittedly, is a little darker than their first). This specific track is called 'Tokyo (Vampire & Wolves)'

9) The electronic kind of sound in the background sounds cool on this track. At first I didn't love it, but once it hits the chorus...I love it!

This band needs more love on the forum. A thread for them only just appeared on WoM! This song was the hardest one to pick as I had 4/5 tracks I wanted to put on there! It's Friendly Fires with 'Blue Cassette'

10) The first and only female vocalist on the tape! I was surprised when I heard that it was a she instead of a he. :P I like the beat during the chorus. The vocals are alright but there's something about her voice that makes me think I would get tired of it after a few songs in a row. A good song though.

Your surprise is probably warranted. This is the only female vocalist I have on my entire iPod. Because you said you liked Ellie Goulding and Adele I felt like I had to add a female vocalist to your tape. Anyway, this is 'Last Dance'- by Clare Maguire. The song was written about Michael Jacksons' death y'know.

11) I continue to be impressed by your choice of songs! I really liked this track. The vocals sound familiar but I can't think of who it could be at the moment. Great closer.

It's the Arctic Monkeys! But the track is actually off their first EP so people tend not to have heard it. It's 'Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts'

Ok so I loved this tape. Seriously, every song was fantastic. I really liked how every song was really laid back, yet some were just begging to be danced to. The mood was consistent throughout the playlist even though the songs were all different and unique. I'll definitely be keeping all of them and I'm sure many will make it into my summer playlists. Thank you so much and I can't wait to find out who made this awesome tape!!

I'm so glad you liked it. I had loads more tracks I wanted to put on there, but they were pushing the dancy-boat out a bit, so I thought to stick with the chill-- I'm glad that worked :D And the flow worked because, yeah, I was really worried about that! Very glad you'll be keeping hold of them

Arctic Monkeys :wacky: I'll download this mixtape, it looks really cool

Review:

1. A steel drum synth, delayed guitar and a high woman's voice. I like the instrumentation and parts of the melody, but I can't really get into it.

2. A repeating cello pattern switching from ear panel to ear panel. Accompanied by I think a banjo and random percussive noises. This is really cool.

3. Glitchly percussion and soft, high, male voices. Interesting feel, I like it. Particularly the way the vocals relate to the odd synths and effects going on around it.

4. dueling glitchy guitar sounds. Drums and keyboards enter. This is also interesting, but starts to lose its novelty near the end. Kind of tiresome without distinct chords at the base, but enjoyable nonetheless.

5. single guitar playing an echo-y pattern. joined by keyboards. Really calming vibe. Enter Powerful distorted guitar. I'm sure that wherever this is from, it's probably the last song on the album. Very strong post-rock, EITS-esque vibe, I definitely like it. Does drag on a bit though...everything after 4:57 just seems unnecessary and uninteresting.

6. Change of pace. Consonant picked acoustic guitars, followed by piano and keyboard. A strong Balmorhea or even Album Leaf vibe. This is really nice, thanks!

7. Some heavy distorted bass overdubbed with delayed guitar feedback. Another interesting one, The use of feedback is pretty cool, vaguely mogwai-ish, though it gets pretty monotonous by the end. Thanks all the same.

8. This is an awesome one (also the longest @ over 9 minutes), and reinforces the idea that whoever made this did a lot of research, as I imagine most people wouldn't enjoy this quite as much as I do. Distant drone of rapidly played piano fades in. Bass and guitar fuzz comes in to an ambient back-drop. Reminds me a lot of Christian Fennesz or Tim Hecker. Really immersive. Fuzz stops, and then the whole thing slowly crackles and dies. Good stuff, and I really want to find who each of these artists are.

9. Holy crap, a human voice! Just a short field recording though. A synth melody followed by distorted fifths and female vocals. Sorry, after the first minutes I've kind of written it off, not a fan of the style or her voice. *keeps listening* yeah, sorry. I understand how the intense backdrop fits with the other tracks, but it's the first real miss on this mix, for me.

I feel as though this tape was made largely with my own taste in mind. I didn't recognise any of the artists, but most of it is instrumental with a very prominent post-rock vibe.

10. Picked acoustic guitar and a nice british voice enter. I like the arrangement. The verse chorus structure and intimate atmosphere, feel like comforting handrails after the long stretch of linear instrumentals. This is lovely, and I think I should know who this is.

11. Acoustic guitar, with an electric guitar supplying a bass line, and another british sounding voice. The chord arrangement is definitely interesting. This is perfectly good in my book. Thanks!

12. Heavier jam-band vibe. Hate to end on an off-note, but this was kind of a dud for me. Like 9, I hate the vocals. It does improve a bit though. The last couple minutes are pretty enjoyable.

So thanks a lot for a truly fascinating mixtape. As I mentioned before, I feel as though much of this was customized to my taste. It was a very long 12 tracks, due to the lengthier instrumentals, which I think were my favorite part. It was a really enjoyable and delightfully eclectic mix. Please post the tracklist soon!

Hey squareonefivesix! I made your tape :D

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Obviously we have quite different tastes when it comes to vocalists, so I'm really sorry you didn't like a lot of them! I'm also sorry it was a bit long, I normally make them about that length or a bit longer. You should definitely check out any of the artists you liked on the tape though. Clearly, I like all of them :P

Thanks for listening and getting your review in so quickly!

Sorry again that it wasn't exactly to your tastes, but I'm glad you more or less enjoyed it!

Oh Lykki Li, I saw her at a festival once, ages ago. Well technically we sat at the back of the tent during her set, eating chips. But yeah, I wasn't overly impressed then either.

And I already knew I didn't like Foals or Vaccines. I absolutely hated that Vaccines single, the post-break up sex one, it's bloody awful. I just don't like vocals like that. I find stuff like The Wombats are the same, I just can't stand that put-on, fake-punk, sort-of-shoutey singing, it gets on me nerves, sorry.

I guess I am really picky aren't it? Sorry :embarrassed:

I'm pleasantly surprised with the Strokes one tho, I've never really cared for them much, and had a go recently at listening to some of their older stuff. P'rhaps I should give their new album a listen, if it's any good? :\ And Friendly Fires too, I have their s/titled album and some of that is fairly good, they've got a new one out recently too, haven't they? I like that Foster The People track (totally thought that was gonna be MGMT  ) so I'll have to check them out too soon. Oh and the new Foxes album, yep, definatley shall be listening more to that ;)

You did me a favour with the PJ Harvey one, I've read a few magazines lately raving about that new album of her's, about how amazing it is, and I kept thinking that I should check out... don't think I'll bother wasting my time with that now haha :P

Anyway, thanks for the tape, it was entertaining and very interesting and I've gained a few things there to check out  I'm Paula btw, I'm sure I've seen you in the Kasabian thread a few times :)

Anyone know how to get rid of the music tags on a mac?

I copied all the songs into a folder and what not.

And was planning on readding them to itunes and just erasing all the info through there.

But iTunes recognizes the songs as already being in the library (because of the originals) even though the new ones are renamed... so is there an easier way?

 Looking at this I'm so glad you didn't get my mixtape. I'd have been your worst nightmare. I love The Vaccine and The Wombats man :P

Hahaha it's all good. I guess it's just unlucky that I love those types of songs

Did you ever listen to the new Foals material? It's a bit softer and not as shout-y as the stuff off their debut, maaaaaaaybe you might like them more, just a little bit?

You should definitely listen to the new Strokes album! I love it. There are quite a few songs on there that are along the same dancey, happy kinda lines so hopefully you'll like them! I also absolutely love Friendly Fires so I'm going to say, check out their new one! It is a bit different to their first though, not quite as much punk mixed in with the dance. With the Foster the People album, 'Pumped Up Kicks' is kinda the only song really like that on the album, but I'd still recommend giving the album a go. I think it's great :awesome:

And Fleet Foxes ftw!

Hi Paula, nice to meet you! :nice: I'm Grace (if you hadn't figured that out already :P)

Yesss I love Kasabian, you'll be seeing me a bit in there on the lead up to their new album

But iTunes recognizes the songs as already being in the library (because of the originals) even though the new ones are renamed... so is there an easier way?

Make a playlist in itunes with the songs in it. Go to your preferences, go import settings and change to mp3 encoder, if not already. Then highlight songs in playlist, and go create mp3 version. This will make copies of all your songs. Go to your 'Recently added playlist' and all the songs should be there at the top. Go through them one by one and rename them, removing the details. Once this is done, go, show in finder, and this will take you to the folder where they are all kept (make sure you name the album tag on the songs something otherwise they will be scattered everywhere). simply copy the folder, paste it somewhere else and make it a zip or rar, and upload.

when i made my tape i changed the the name of the artist and track and just deleted the album info on iTunes and cleared the rest of the details, it worked for me except for one track. hope this helps

Alright, that doesn't sound too bad.

Thanks so much!

haha yeah would have been awful. I can't stand Muse either  :P j/kidding

 I don't tend to put Muse on my mixtapes because everyone loves Muse, so I don't need to preach to the converted. :laugh3::laugh3:

I haven't because my partners either already listen to Muse or hate them. HAHA.

I'm so making a Muse mixtape for Mike if he's my next mixtape partner

Review:

1. A steel drum synth, delayed guitar and a high woman's voice. I like the instrumentation and parts of the melody, but I can't really get into it.

 Well, I should have expected that not everyone's into vocal like that. That's not a woman's voice, my dear! This is a song by British indie band called Delays.

2. A repeating cello pattern switching from ear panel to ear panel. Accompanied by I think a banjo and random percussive noises. This is really cool.

Just discovered them recently. Too bad the song is a bit too short. The band was called Mom but later changed the name to Sleep Whale.

3. Glitchly percussion and soft, high, male voices. Interesting feel, I like it. Particularly the way the vocals relate to the odd synths and effects going on around it.

Glad you like it.

4. dueling glitchy guitar sounds. Drums and keyboards enter. This is also interesting, but starts to lose its novelty near the end. Kind of tiresome without distinct chords at the base, but enjoyable nonetheless.

This is Battles. I like it at first listen. :)

5. single guitar playing an echo-y pattern. joined by keyboards.

You almost got it right. It's the second last song on their bonus disc, tho.

6. Change of pace. Consonant picked acoustic guitars, followed by piano and keyboard. A strong Balmorhea or even Album Leaf vibe. This is really nice, thanks!

This is an acoustic version of "I'm In Awe, Amadeus!" . The original version has a faster pace and more synths.

7. Some heavy distorted bass overdubbed with delayed guitar feedback. Another interesting one, The use of feedback is pretty cool, vaguely mogwai-ish, though it gets pretty monotonous by the end. Thanks all the same.

This is by Yuck. They're not a post-rock band tho.

Again, that's not a girl. I'm really amused by your reactions.

10. Picked acoustic guitar and a nice british voice enter. I like the arrangement. The verse chorus structure and intimate atmosphere, feel like comforting handrails after the long stretch of linear instrumentals. This is lovely, and I think I should know who this is.

This is Dry The River

11. Acoustic guitar, with an electric guitar supplying a bass line, and another british sounding voice. The chord arrangement is definitely interesting. This is perfectly good in my book. Thanks!

Same band as Track 10

12. Heavier jam-band vibe. Hate to end on an off-note, but this was kind of a dud for me. Like 9, I hate the vocals. It does improve a bit though. The last couple minutes are pretty enjoyable.

Same band as Track 1 &9 :P

I found out that you and I have similar taste, so I just put whatever songs that I like(and songs that you probably never heard before) to my mixtape. Then I realized that I almost made a "post-rock/instrumental" mixtape, as half of the songs are instrumental(I'm into alot of post-rock/instrumental bands).

I'm sorry I put 3 Delays songs(not everyone's taste, apparently, and I'm such a fangirl :shy: ).

Anyway, thanks for listening! :D I hope that you'll check out some of the bands.

Tracklist:

1. Delays - Wanderlust

2. Mom - The Gradual Instant

3. Baths - Indoorsy

4. Battles - Futura

5. And So I Watch You From Afar - Mount Kailash

6. Maybeshewill - I'm In Awe, Amadeus!(acoustic version)

7. Yuck - Dark Magnet

8. Ben Frost - Theory Of Machines

9. Delays - Quiet

10. Dry The River - Coast

11. Dry The River - New Ceremony

12. Delays - Star Tiger, Star Ariel
