Oh yeah, and the Rihanna news just makes me shake my head. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but they're just trying so hard to be huge and top 40 and popular that it's having the opposite effect on the people that got them to the point they're at now. I don't think they owe us anything or should exist just to please us, but at the same time...they're just trying so hard, and throwing all the things that they used to be/stand for out of the window.

 

I haven't given up all hope yet, because I know I like the live incarnations of at least half of the album so far, but in my heart of hearts, I feel like I already know that I won't really love this album anywhere near like I love the others, based both on music and style and production and the direction they're heading.

why would they- as artists, who got ALL the possibilities in the world, WANT to do what they are doing here? why would you WANT to work in a studio for weeks and months and then proudly (:thinking:?) present material like 'every teardrop' or 'paradise'?

 

i will never understand that. i'm not trying to place a cheap choke, but i seriously think that there is a case of collective retardation in the entire coldplay camp. you'd think there must be someone who realises that the lyrics are...that they are...i dunno...utter ridiculous, embarrassing trite nonsense? and those arrangements? there's no dirt in there anymore, that was a problem with vlvadaaohf already. it's too sterile, too clean.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I have never disliked a Coldplay song as much as I'm disliking Paradise. At least ETIAW has the benefit of being a successful pop song; it's catchy and memorable. Paradise doesn't even have that going for it. I've already almost forgotten it. The only good part is the very, very end where you can hear the piano, the only part that sounds like something a band like Coldplay should be doing. I don't have a problem with pop music whatsoever, but that doesn't mean every single artist can just go out and write successful top 40 songs. Coldplay is the wrong kind of band for stuff like this, clearly evident in their lack of ability to sample music or alter a voice to make it sound good.
