New Coldplay eh?

Featured Replies

Paradise is marginally less shit than Every Teardrop is A Bunch Of Arse, but some of the other tracks we've heard like Charlie Brown and Major Minus are actually ok, so the dilemma I have now is - should I spend £50 on the super-duper deluxe version of MX which looks amazing and I really want to have it cos it's Coldplay and they've been in my life for 10 years and I'd feel like a t w a t if I gave up on them now BUT can I really really really justify spending 50 quid on an album that essentially, will only be half-decent. :bigcry: Especially when there's other super-duper deluxe albums that I'd rather spend that sort of money on (& bands far more deserving of my support/money) :\ :\ :\

I don't know what to do.....

I had the same dilemma. I've bought the deluxe version, or at least I've ordered it and my parents are paying for it as a Christmas present. That might be an option...?

Well, I do want the cd either way, so buying the standard version is the most likely option. It's just I'm going to feel like I'm missing out on the deluxe version, but then saying that people'll probably be scanning in and posting all the interesting stuff like the studio diary and the notes an' that, so I'll probs still get to see it all :\ Idk, I just wish I was a little more excited for this album, i'm kinda disappointed that I'm so disappointed in it already :(

Here, you deserve this:

I'm still debating whether or not to buy the limited edition package. I probably will......and if I end up really disliking the album I'll probably just sell it for more than it's worth hehe.

I've always had a major problem with the prices for Coldplay tickets here in the U.S. They charge $125 per ticket once you calculate the additional fees, and that's for anything non-nosebleed, not just what's best in the house. Not only that, but these prices are for venues that usually charge no more than $70 per ticket for a lot of other bands (seriously, I can see Foo Fighters for $75 next month in an arena that Coldplay played 3 years ago for $125). So anytime someone complains about Coldplay ticket prices and a fanboy/fangirl responds, "That's the venue's choice, not the band's!", they're mostly in denial.

Being so disappointed with these new songs gives me much less of an incentive to pay these outrageous prices to see them. If I do see them at all this tour, I would rather it be at a festival where I can also catch other acts worth my money. (I already have Coachella 2012 paid for, guys, so there's your hint ;) )

I would never see them live. They've got so many live performances broadcasted and recorded online that are free... or even their live DVDs.

I just heard Paradise for the first time yesterday and in my opinion it's no where near as poor as ETIAW. It's a decent pop song but it's one that will be forgotten pretty quickly. The para para paradise chorus should have been taken more seriously though. I'd give it a 7/10.

As for the Rihanna collaboration well what can you say. Out of all the solo female artists out there they or rather he picks the most generic, easy one of the lot. Smacks of a desperate lack of ambition. It's a massive sell out. Why not pick a female artist who deserves a bit more of the limelight? Coldplay are so much better than this and sadly with a decision like this I don't know if they realise they can do much better these days. If listeners and critics don't like Mylo Xyloto then they could be feeling the bite for a long long time.

They should make a song with shakira... but an acoustic/slow one. Her first 2 albums (in spanish) havegreat songs and very good songwriting, now she sings waka waka and coldplay sings waa waa para para, they have something in common now :wacky:

^I'd have even more respect for Coldplay if they did a song with Shakira than I do after they wrote a song with Rihanna. :awesome:

:dazzled:

I still think that Bjork could better substitute for Chinese than Rihanna. Despite all my cynicism, I'm still holding on for Princess Of China.

Exactly, Dave Holmes was on crack when he said they'd never passed the $100 mark. That said, different dates on the tour do vary in price depending on venue and city, but it's always just about as expensive as even the hardcores are willing to pay. They definitely need to watch themselves in that department. I feel like their business decisions are going to crash on their heads in the next few years.

I would KILL to go to Coachella again :bigcry:. I went this year because of the amazing lineup, but I had such a good time that I wouldn't even really care who's playing next year if I could be sure I would be able to go and afford it...*sigh*

In the 2010 latin american tour if you wanted to get front row you needed like 250 dollars :snobby:

I wouldn't go to Coachella in 2012, it doesn't seem like anyone terribly exciting would be playing. I'm holding off until 2013. :)

But a Radiohead rumor dropped today! :P (then again, Radiohead is rumored EVERY year for EVERY festival, so it hardly means a thing)

Being 2.5 hours away, though, Coachella is just a given for me every year. Other festivals are more lineup-dependent for me.

I once got upgraded to front row by R42 at a non-GA Coldplay gig and the price on the new tickets was $700 :blank:

And yeah, I take it back, I'd have to like at least two of the bands playing for me to make the trek to California again, but still, Coachella was SO MUCH FUN regardless, and I really do think Coldplay will play.

A lot of people seem to like it, still too generic pop for my liking.

At first listen is not bad. Not a fan of Chris' voice though. I really really hope they won't ruin it adding weird effects and stuff. I think I'll listen to it again tomorrow maybe I'll start to enjoy it more.

I enjoy it. It works well for them since it's not over the top.

...this band confuses me so much.

As I've been posting elsewhere, it only took 6 or 7 songs from the album before I finally didn't hate something. It's not as good as a mellow Parachutes or AROBTTH track, but it's similar to a lot of X&Y material both in terms of sound and quality. I'll willingly accept that by this point.

And of course, the fanboys/fangirls are already responding to the positive feedback with "TOLD YA SO! TOLD YA SO! DON'T JUDGE UNTIL YOU'VE HEARD EVERYTHING!" Sorry, but a couple good songs won't salvage a shipwreck and the half of the album we still haven't heard has a HUGE uphill redemption battle given what we've dealt with previously. This is a faint glimmer of light. Very faint.

I've been trying to get into it but I find myself enjoying it less every time I give it a listen. :\

Of the 8 songs we've heard I've enjoyed 4 so MX could swing either way at this point.

haha fangirls are so annoying... like

OMG COLDPLAY IS BACK

man, it's the same band that released ETIAW and Paradise

^I agree... this, Moving to Mars and MX/Hurts Like Heaven are the only songs that have potential to be salvaged. I'm still overall disappointed with the band w/ Paradise and Teardrop, and it's an uphill battle but at least this song is a step in the right direction.
