Can Coldplay please just fill the album with 10-12 songs like this? This song is so much better than everything else we've heard so far from this era (okay, I like "Charlie Brown" too) that it's ridiculous.

Totally agree - this proves that they still have that Parachutes sensibility in them, I'd love a whole album like this. I'll be honest, I was pretty much ready to give up on them after ETIAW was released, but this song really changes things. Up there with their best in my opinion.

Us Against The World

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGlqmn2HSTk]YouTube - ‪Coldplay- " Us Against the World " HQ Live @ Rock am Ring festival : Nürburgring, Germany‬‏[/ame]

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, they move.

Lift off this blindfold, let me see again.

And bring back the water that your ships will rid, in my heart, she left (alone/un-whole)

The tightrope that I'm walking, just sways and ties.

The devil, as he's talking, with those angel's eyes.

And I just wanna be there when the lightning strikes.

(And the Saints gone, what to do?)

And sing slow it down,

Through the chaos in the world,

It's us against the world.

Like a river to a raindrop,

I lost a friend.

My drunkenness isn't (beggin') in a lion's den.

And tonight I know it all has to begin again,

So whatever you do,

Don't let go.

And if we float away,

Fly up to the surface, and just start again.

Lift off with no trouble.

Just be (roses) in the rain

Just sing slow-ow-ow it down.

Oh slow-ow-ow-ow it down.

(instrumental)

Through the chaos in the world,

It's us against the world.

Through the chaos in the world,

It's us against the world.

I'm probably alone here in saying that I really do not think the song is anything special. The melody is ridiculously simple and it reminds me of a bad version of Kingdom. I infinitely prefer the other new tracks and if they released a whole cd filled with songs like UATW, I seriously would consider not including it in my collection. By the way I do like see you soon but I think it's melodically superior to this. I hope you guys genuinely like the song and not just like it because it's slow, acoustic and it reminds you of what u deem to be Coldplay good old days....

Well to be honest, previous to the VLV album they never actually wrote complex songs.

Sometimes a song just stands out because of simplicity.

I personally think there were complex songs even before VLV. The melody of the new track just does not stand out to me at all. Maybe the studio version might, who knows.

I just hope people judge this track and the other new tracks solely on the basis of the music and not based on whether they are slow or up-tempo or whether they are more or less like Parachutes.

Well can you blame them (us )? I'm okay with them progressing as mucisians, but I just don't like the huge change of atmosphere. They went from an introvert, mellow, dare I say 'tormented' sound, to the happiest, most colorful bunch you can imagine. So yeah. Hearing another introvert song really makes me happy.

No I can't really blame you for wanting the old introvert vibe back and you would probably still be having it, were it not for the fact that Coldplay are hell bent on evolution when it comes to music, so each album sounds different than it's predecessors. I also think that maybe they have outgrown their early years depressive phase and are now in a much happier place and that is reflected in the music. I for one love Parachutes and the old slow songs but honestly I'm not often inthe mood to hear them : guess I also grew out of that phase or im not sad as often as I used to be :) Guess sometimes it's just luck, whether we can follow our fav bands evolution or not.

'This is a quiet song, so you can sleep if you want.' CM

Hahaha no way, that's sooo good! The acoustic and intimate stuff we were waiting for. And I think that if the new album included both tracks like this and VLV-like ones, it would be the perfect LP5.
