MX / Hurts Like Heaven - 9.9 (for me it's close to perfection. Amazing instrumentals and THAT energy and beat ! I love their new sound and HLH is it's greatest example)

Charlie Brown - 9.9 (same as HLH ... just brilliant. Definitely one of their best songs EVER.)

Us Against The World - (simply a beautiful song. pure coldplay magic. That song would fit on any CP record and still stand out. Classic CP) 9.5

MMIX / Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall - ( I still think that the sheer power and that special feeling of almost overwhelming happiness this song has ... priceless :D.) - 9.5

Up In Flames - 9.0

Major Minus- 8.3 (intriguing, somehow dark - very good but not as good as Daylight which is quite like it in terms of atmosphere)

Princess of China - 8.0 (better than I expected. very experimental. Fits great with other songs and is an enjoable listen. But it won't ever be one of favourites)

A Hopeful Transmission/Don't Let It Break Your Heart ( I need few more listens but I'm pretty positive that this will go up a bit) - 8.0

Paradise - 7.8 (good but still far from great)

U.F.O - 7.5

Up With The Birds (may go higher ... i don't know really. so far doesn't really get to me the way other songs do) - right now 7

I would say MX = VLV = AROBTTH ( I can't decide which one is 1st 2nd or 3rd ) >> X&Y >> Parachutes at least for me

Hmmm...

1. Don't Let it Break Your Heart - So immediate, the mix makes this song. Chris's voice being pushed into the dense center allows for everyone to shine.

2. Up With The Birds - I can't pick out the Leonard Cohen sample yet, but I can feel it.

3. U.F.O. - There are flashes of Parachutes on this album if you're willing to listen for them, this song contains the brightest one.

4. Mylo Xyloto - Like waking up on a bright autumn day and taking a deep breath before diving in.

5. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - Forget your politik, samples or not, this is a brilliantly written song.

6. Us Against the World - Coldplay? Soulful? No. Couldn't be.

7. Charlie Brown - Dense like DLIBYH, but less tuneful. Likely to be a minor chart hit but a major player on your most played iTunes list.

8. Up in Flames - Bass drum is a little outlandish and strays too far into the realm of certain less than earnest musical genres. Nonetheless, the song is held to the ground by Coldplay's well-established honest charms.

9. Hurts Like Heaven - An adrenaline rush, maybe some of Chris's best lyrics.

10. A Hopeful Transmission - That beat is like nothing we've heard from Coldplay, so energetic, I love it. Perfectly leads into DLIBYH

11. M.M.I.X. - Stirring, Where the Streets Have No Name has its modern counterpart.

12. Paradise - Feels too familiar, perhaps even lacking an extra verse to dampen the mantra like drive.

13. Princess of China - Not a disappointment as many expected (myself half included).

14. Major Minus - It just doesn't fit for me within the context of the album. Too raw-edged, not a hint of the sweetness that is so prevalent throughout the album.

I just finished listening to it through just the once so far and what a ride it was! So these ratings are on the first impression:

1. Charlie Brown - 9.8/10 (Just, love it, one of my all time favourites of Coldplay and I'm sure it'll grow on me even more!)

2. Hurts Like Heaven - 9.5/10

3. Us Against The World - 9/10

4. U.F.O. - 9/10 (Only song on Mylo Xyloto I could've seen on Parachutes those 11 years ago! Glad they included this song, it was a treat to hear a glimpse of their older sound)

5. Up with the Birds - 8.8/10

6. Paradise - 8.5/10

7. Don't Let it Break Your Heart - 7.8/10 (Although on first thoughts, I was thinking I could grow to like this a lot!)

8. Up in Flames - 7.2/10

9. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - 6.8/10

10. Major Minus - 6.8/10

11. A Hopeful Transmission - 5/10

12. Mylo Xyloto - 5/10

13. Princess of China - 2.5/10 (Yes, I even enjoyed the majority of interludes more than this track, I'm sorry, it just didn't do it for me, maybe I'll change my mind after a few more listens or maybe I could grow to loathe it, although I'm not going to abuse it like most people are doing.)

14. M.M.I.X. - 2/10 (Just a bunch of noise really, although good build up to ETIAW towards the end I guess.)

Mylo Xyloto - A: Love this intro, even better than live

Hurts Like Heaven - B+: The vocal effects take away from this, the live version in an A

Paradise - B-: Works better in the context of the album than stand alone

Charlie Brown - A+: Already in my Coldplay Pantheon

Us Against the World - A: Tremendous, love the additions in the studio person

MMIX - B-: A solid intro

Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - A-: It really is the centerpiece to the album

Major Minus - C/C-: The only new track I just don't care for

UFO - B: Didn't feel like a complete thought, but had promise, still enjoyable

Princess of China - B+: A damn catchy song, Rhianna sounds good on it, they duetted well too

Up in Flames - B: Studio version feels much improved and is a soulful stripped down jam

A Hopeful Transmission - A-: Basically an altered MX, and a very good intro

Don't Let it Break Your Heart - A/A+: Roadie #42 nailed it with his description, violently life affirming

Up with the Birds - B: I just keep waiting for the part to blow me away and while it is hinted at, it never happens, just a solid conclusion and feeling of satisfaction

Overall Record: A-

Record Ranks:

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

Mylo Xyloto

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Parachutes

X&Y

AROBTTH had more stand out singles but I find MX stronger start to finish, Outside of MM, MX is so strong for me it might threaten Viva, but I need more listens and time to elapse to judge that.
