One good thing, One bad thing about the album

Featured Replies

I think a lot of people are saying that about MTM because they think sonically, it would fit well into the album and tracklisting. Personally, I think sonically it would fit, but it wouldn't fit the "narrative" as I interpret it, so I think I see why they left it off, and I'm glad they did because, like you say, we got to hear it in another place in full studio quality.

My one good thing and one bad thing:

GOOD: The cohesive flow of the whole album, I find it very smooth and sonically pleasing

BAD: I think "Up In Flames" maybe should have been a B-side. I like it OK as it is, I think more than most people, and it's not even my favorite track, but I just find myself completely forgetting about it when I listen to the record, and just kind of assume "A Hopeful Transmission" is right after "Princess Of China." I also wish Chris didn't sing so high on it.

Good- very produced-sounding

Bad- very produced-sounding

I'm having a hard time coming to terms with some of the songs. but I've only listened to it a few times... there were moments when I was just freaking happy and dancing around though. And then Parachutes came on after and I was really shocked that it was the same band.

Good thing: The way every song perfectly flows into the next.

Bad thing: Vocal effects. I don't see the point, Chris' voice is fine (dare I say perfect?) as it is.

I actually kinda liked that... :anxious:

Same here. Makes the song more interesting. And reminds me of a heart beat thudding hard and irregularly because of the pain.

Good thing : The second half of the album is awesome

Bad thing : The production on HLH and the deception with Charlie Brown (I think I'm the only one who doesn't find it that good)

Good: You can't seem to stop listening to the album or skip a song. It's probably the only Coldplay album where I have to listen to the album the whole way through instead of just listening to the songs I like.

Bad: Too synth-y in certain songs.

I wished I didn't hear half of the album before it came out.

Wished ETIAW was dropped.

Up In Flames

Absolutely this. I have yet to listen to one single song on the album without listening to its lead-in, which then carries me to the next song, so on and so forth.

Good: flow and cohesiveness, all of the music and individual instruments (including drums in UIF), production, weird little sounds, vocal effects and structure of most songs. There's not too many of their old tricks, apart from the lyrics.

Bad: some lyrics, the whole story is not that great, low notes in UATW, too much going on in DLIBYH, and some things or feelings that are missing, I don't know what they are exactly.

And ETIAW, which I just don't like. Live it's kinda good, but on the album...

Good: Genious flow from AHT-UWTB.

Bad: dissatisfying production on HLH, MM and PoC.

GOOD:

- "Mylo Xyloto" and "Hurts Like Heaven" are awesome together.

- I love - and always have loved - "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall".

- "Major Minus" rocks.

BAD:

- Sloppy songwriting (too sloppy for Coldplay, anyway) on "Paradise" and "Princess of China". Rihanna's vocals on the latter song are perfect, but the song itself is not.

- "M.M.I.X." didn't have to be a separate track. The album version of "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" could just have had a long ambient intro like "Violet Hill".

- "Charlie Brown" and "Us Against the World" are better live.

Good thing: Paradise

Bad thing: We already heard most of the songs prior to the album's release

Good: Fantastic harmonies and melodies. Plenty of solid songs.

Bad: Weak lyrics in more places then they should be.

Good: Great melodies and lyrics. The album flows well too.

Bad: I can't get "Paradise" out my head, and I really don't like it. Also, the story of the album's good, it just seems like a very short story. It feels like there should be about 20 songs in order to serve the story justice, but I guess the album works well as it is.

Good: Second half of the album (except for Princess of China)

-The beginning of Up With The Birds

Bad: First half of the album (except Us Against The World)

-Some of the songs have some really sloppy lyrics :/
