January 28, 201214 yr Not that I'd never heard of them before (obviously) but I never really paid much attention to them before until Paradise came out (although I did like Violet Hill), which I absolutely love. My boyfriend really likes them so I thought I'd surprise him with tickets for the june show at the Emirates Stadium. I bought MX so I'd know a few songs and quite like it, my favourite songs are Paradise, Major Minus, Princess of China and Up in Flames. What other Coldplay record should I check out? Do they change the setlist each night? Thanks for your help
January 28, 201214 yr Welcome :D Viva la Vida Or Death And All His Friends is a great album, but my favourite is probably X&Y, though sometimes it appears to be under-rated To be honest I'm not entirely sure, but I'm sure they do something different for each show
January 28, 201214 yr Welcome :D I recommend you to check out every record  Seriously, I think you might get surprised and end up loving a song you wouldn't have expected to enjoy. ;) As for the setlist, they don't change it each night, though if you get lucky you may have one or two songs that weren't on the setlist the night before (which also means that you might not have one song that was on the setlist the previous night). However the setlist changes between tours, of course!
January 28, 201214 yr Welcome to Coldplaying :awesome: I suggest listening to a few songs from every record, they're all so good and different from one another. You can't really get a good feel for Coldplay's music until you've listened to a broad spectrum of it..oh and don't forget the b-sides :awesome:

Do they change the setlist each night? Thanks for your help Hi :D If you liked MX you should check out Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. That's an amazing album, and the most similar to MX out of all the records (though every album is unique in its own way :)) You should also definitely get A Rush Of Blood To The Head, its got some classic songs a lot of which they still play live so if you're going to see them its a must have. The other two albums are Parachutes and X&Y, so if you like AROBTTH you should give those two a listen :D They don't usually play as many songs from these albums anymore though :\ As far as setlists go, they're usually more or less the same within each tour, you should go and look at some of the recent setlists in the Live section of this site to get a vague idea of what they'll play. Paradise and Major Minus seem to be pretty much guaranteed, but Princess of China is less likely as they probably won't do it without Rihanna. They have been playing Up In Flames, but I wouldn't be surprised if they drop it in favour of U.F.O. as they haven't played that one live yet. I hope this has been helpful at all :D
January 28, 201214 yr Welcome.. I am sure you will LOVE the concert, and Celine is right they don't change up the setlist much.. but they are still flipping awesome live, you're going to have a wonderful time! As for albums, I know when I fell in love with them, I started by listening to Viva la Vida, which was out at the time.. and worked slowly backwards.. Now I love all of it. But I think Viva is probably my favourite album..
January 28, 201214 yr I'd say you should go with Viva considering that MX is what you know you like now, and you do like Violet Hill. Or, I noticed on itunes they have a "Coldplay Essentials" package , which would get you familiar with a lot of the songs you'll probably hear at the concert.
January 28, 201214 yr Seems like the the best album for each individual is the one that got them into Coldplay. May wind up being MX for you. I remember hearing Yellow for the first time and just falling in love. That said, ROBTTH is the one that i still feel is the best. The end of Politik never ceases to amaze me.
January 29, 201214 yr Welcome :) I recommend that you check out every album because they are all great. My personal favorite album is Parachutes but every album contains amazing songs.
January 29, 201214 yr I personally love all of their albums. Most of the songs they play live besides the ones from mx are probably from viva. The setlist is usually the same from night to night as far as I know. I'm sure you'll have fun no matter what. You can't go wrong with a coldplay concert! :D
January 29, 201214 yr Most songs they play on this tour come from A Rush Of Blood To The Head, other than MX obviously
January 29, 201214 yr You should definitely check out all their albums. Start with Parachutes. And welcome to the board.
January 29, 201214 yr If you like some songs of MX and already love Violet Hill you should definitely start with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. But remember, listening to Coldplay is highly addictive
January 29, 201214 yr Welcome !! Coldplay is amazing, so start slowly to listen to everything !!! :D You'll soon be addicted ;)
January 29, 201214 yr You should also check the band's official website coldplay.com for the whole discography. You can find some full concerts on youtube. In fact I just watched the Toronto 2006 concert yet again today. If you want to enjoy your experience at a Coldplay concert though, you should definitely get A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Many of the sing along songs they play in concerts are from that album, In My Place, Clocks, Scientist, God Put A Smile On Your Face, etc. I can't wait to go see them again in July.
January 29, 201214 yr I'd start with Viva La Vida. That's what got me into them, but X&Y is great too! I hope you have fun!
June 4, 201214 yr Author As everyone was so kind with their recommendations I thought I'd come back to say that I had a great time at the show, it was really quite spectacular, a stadium full of flashing wrist bands was incredible to see. My favourites were: Paradise, Violet Hill, God Put A Smile On Your Face, Fix You and Clocks. I would say they were on top-form but I've never seen Colplay before. Chris Martin was so appreciative and humble aswell. Poeple were doing the oooohhh chants from Viva all the way to the tube station lol. Definately a convert. Thanks all.
June 4, 201214 yr Listen to Parachutes. Then AROBTTH. I know the band has changed dramatically. But it's not Coldplay without those two albums. They are master pieces.
June 4, 201214 yr I'd start from the beginning. And don't do it quickly. You have to know them deeply, it needs time
June 4, 201214 yr I started really listening to Coldplay after I heard the song Paradise, I like some of their songs before but was a casual fan. I recommend listening to all the albums starting with Parachutes also listen to the b-sides. Listen to all songs with an open mind because you don't know which ones you'll really love. Decide for yourself if you think a song is a masterpiece, not just because some one says it is.
