🌙 COLDPLAY ANNOUNCE MOON MUSIC OUT OCTOBER 4TH 🎵

Latin American Tour 2013 [CANCELLED - GENERAL DISCUSSION HERE]

^ What everyone is saying is that after the floop of concerts like Lady Gaga and Madonna producers are afraid of making investments. And one of the main reasons of those gigs to floop was the price of tickets that have never been so high, on the day before Lady Gaga's concert in Rio they were selling 2 by the price of 1 trying to make the loss smaller.

Ah! That makes good sense, I remember there was a similar situation in Australia in the early 90's. Bands were asking huge fees upfront to offset the expense of shipping gear to a the relatively far away area, and that led to ticket inflation, which led to low attendance. Perhaps the promoters didn't want to take a risk promoting a Coldplay show, and the loss of even a couple shows puts the who tour in jeopardy because it screws up the whole schedule. Coldplay still seem better than a lot of bands at their level when it comes to gouging people for big bucks, but I'm sure with the size of their current production, they have to get a hefty guarantee just to break even.

If that's true, it's too bad, because it means you'll probably getting fewer of the big tours for the immediate future.

some random thoughts about that cancellation:

- I was expecting it but still when the band message came out I couldn't help but feel sad & disappointed & I don't even live in Latin America, so I can't blame ppl who were promised concerts on the band's official site being extremely sad & angry.

- I don't expect any further explanation from the band, no reasons were offered before when the band (on previous tours) cancelled a concert, so don't ask for it now.

- I don't think the cancellation decision from the band itself at all. I don't believe any of the personal rumours about illness & all. I think it had to do with their management & organization stuff that I don't understand much about.

- The whole problem came because of the official announcement of the tour, probably without a final confirmation from the organizing company  maybe someone got wrong information & was enthusiastic to share it

- It could be that they were trying to work things out the past two months to make this tour happen, but eventually failed. Or they could have known it all along but waited for an unknown reason to announce it.

- though the band message came out as friendly as possible ( addressing dear friends, not dear fans & offering clear apology) the phrase "corner of the world" for a non native English speaker could sound a bit degrading, esp. coming in a sad context.

- I watched the concert at Rock in Rio & thought that the audience was really great, loud & enthusiastic & the band members were clearly enjoying themselves, so no, I can't even imagine that they wouldn't love touring there. The energetic atmosphere ot the MX tour would've mixed wonerdfully with such audience..Alas!! It's the loss of the tour itself, though I doubt it may offer any consolation to the disappointed fans.

i completely agree with this.....

i dont wanna keep making excuses for the band but who else forgot that Will was supposedly doing a cameo on Game Of Thrones or that the Martin family now have a house in LA, and that CJWG ALL have kids. I mean if you were 6 or 7 and your dad wasnt there for most of the year, just think about the mentality state that these kids are going in. I mean thinking back in the Live 2012 dvd, Will got a call from his wife that Rex was in the hospital when he was in Las Vegas. He was in a place where he cant be there for his kids, and i know "oh well they get to visit sometimes" Well seeing your dad once every 3 or 4 months isnt gonna cut it.

FWIW according to reports Will filmed his role around the time the band were on their Australia tour, which makes sense because the show is filmed in NZ and was in production during that time.

For me the "Tour" finished last year, I dont understand why they post this message whe is everything is over....but still is sad.
They had announced a small tour in South America (for this year), then later said they had to postpone it and would try to reschedule it. At the time, they didn't actually say that it was cancelled. The recent message was to confirm that it is cancelled and won't be rescheduled.

Sure, because it's that easy to tour.

Um, yes, they do it all the time in Europe. It's not that difficult to find open dates in five cities within a week or two, particularly for a certain money-maker.

I imagine coordinating a crew wouldn't take more than a month or two.

^ I meant that you can't just say that you want to tour a certain place at some point in a year to some people of your crew and then actually tour, just because you said you wanted to. Even when you're the biggest (or one of the biggest) band in the world, you have to deal with different partners, at several levels. Actually, I guess it's even more complicated when you're a big band, because not only, as you kinda said, huge amounts of money are at stake, but also because of all the logistics and security and all, that become more and more important the bigger you get. It's not because they do it all the time in Europe that it doesn't take a lot of preparation or that it's not complicated.

I don't get it, Warner Music possesses EMI that possesses Coldplay?
Not exactly. Parlophone, Coldplay's label, belonged to EMI. EMI was bought by Universal Music, but the European commission stated that, in order to make sure there'd still be enough competition on the market, Universal could not buy all of EMI, and Universal therefore had to sold Parlophone. Parlophone now belongs to Warner, not EMI.

Okay, thanks!

My Opinion, is there is a new owner that was announced a few day's back, and maybe the contract couldn't work itself out in time for the new owners to agree on money issues, or does the record label not make money on tours???

It does sound logic in a way, although I have no idea how all these things work. However, I think, if the problem was indeed the Parlophone selling to Warner, that is not something the band (and by band I also mean here all the people that work for them and are in charge of tours and contracts and all that) couldn't have known in advance, or before announcing the tour.
