I disagree, it's been an awesome year, even for rock/indie stuff. Maybe I'm a bland person, I dunno.
This. Well, not about being bland Brent, but about being an awesome year. (Oh, that a nice alliteration :surprised:)

I had more than 100 albums to choose from. Muse and Keane probably won't even make the top 25, so wow.

I think that it was an amazing year both for indie/alternative/rock and electronic stuff. Way better than last year.

And Muse and Keane are definetely not in my top 25. Not even in my top 100.

Muse and Keane were the only real disappointments. And I had the bar set super ultra low for those two.

this

I just feel like hip hop and electronic music are the only genres were there's still innovation and creativity

most of the hyped up indie bands ive heard recently are really dull :(

(I wish there were better electronic albums though, the whole genre is pretty singles based)

It's been an awesome year for music! Indie music too.

And can I vote for Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Americana? It's not technically original material, but it's not really a cover album either, so...

I actually liked Keane's effort this year. Anything is better than "Night Train." As for Muse, while I'll concede that this is their worst, it still has its moments, so I'm not completely shattered. (Then again, my bar was set higher than yours was, and I AM a bit more biased, I suppose, so maybe what I say doesn't mean much.)

My biggest disappointment this year was Maroon 5. I know I'm one of few people in the WoM who like them, anyway, but this album is garbage compared to everything else they've done. I had them in my list back in 2010 when they released "Hands All Over." Not even gonna happen this year. Nope.

I went and did a bit of research on this. From my understanding, the songs are merely arranged differently and use the lyrics which, while ignored in present day, are a part of the song when they were originally written (and, as I see, Young didn't write any of these). Based on that, I don't think it should count.

pretty great year

True, EPs weren't allowed in the past years... So no, even though I'd really like to include it in my list too :p

The rules didn't say that it's not allowed to vote for cover albums, so I think that yes, you can vote for it.

Here's what the rules say about what's eligible.

"Original studio albums only, please. No EPs, live albums, reissues, or compilation albums. Soundtracks must be primarily original material. For example the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack was not eligible, but the Scott Pilgrim original score was eligible."

I think the problem that we're having is that cover albums have never been addressed before. I have no problem with including the Neil Young/Crazy Horse album, as long as it's agreed that it's OK, and there's a stipulation added to the rules that allow those types of albums so we don't run into this hitch again.

No problem. :nice:

So, should cover albums be allowed from now on?

I'd say no, because the rules were that the material should be mostly original and I find covers not really original, even when bands give their own twist to it :\

Clan Of Xymox - Kindred Spirits, does that one count as well then? (not that I was planning on adding that one)

I agree that cover albums shouldn't be allowed, but Americana is a reinterpretation of American folk songs. Not really covers.

Ah okay, well that changes it. I didn't have that clear. Then I'd say Yes and to works like Clan of Xymox I'd say No

btw, Will no Lost In The Trees? :disappointed:

I don't see how that's any different from any other cover. A cover is a reinterpretation of a song you yourself didn't write; the cover artist redoes a song in his/her/their style. The fact that Neil Young redoes American folk songs doesn't change the fact that they're covers.

Cover albums should be allowed to be included as it's new recordings of songs in a studio.

There's a lot of stuff I've left off  Gonna update it later, don't worry

I guess, but just think about folk songs as everyones in a way.

Final decision: cover albums aren't eligible as they're not fully original material.

03. Kylie Minogue - The Abbey Road Sessions

18. Anastacia - It's A Man's World

Kylie Minoque's album is an album full of remakes of old songs. Therefore it is not eligible.

Also, if those are not in order of preference, you might want to take away the numbers, because they might confuse people in that you have an order.
