May 1, 201610 yr So what general principle is in every album (that might be exemplified in the phrase X&Y) ? The sound fading out?
May 1, 201610 yr The sound fading out? You and me are drifting into outer space (and singing) Politik Is mentioning outer space and has a wonderful instrumental at the end too.
May 1, 201610 yr No and no. OK we gotta solve Clue 1 fast now...so, if you look at the positioning of singles vs. non-singles, can you see a pattern ?
May 1, 201610 yr This is getting embarassing. I don't hear it and I don't see it. What I do see is that the first song on every album never was a single. Those in the middle were and until Up&Up the last ones where not.

May 1, 201610 yr The 5th song is a single on every album (if you don't count the instrumentals in Mylo Xyloto)
May 1, 201610 yr Well if you don't include the instrumentals then it goes MX/Hurts Like Heaven Paradise Charlie Brown Us Against the World MMIX/Every Teardrop is a Waterfall
May 1, 201610 yr Yes, if you put it that way. On my cd it is a different number though, and on the Coldplay website "Hurts like heaven" isn't even mentioned. :D
May 1, 201610 yr Ok I'm giving this a last try. If you put the albums and songs next to each other and mark the singles you can see some kind of wave. X&Y: You and me are floating on a tidal wave together The world turned upside down? Can't see the wave you're riding on
May 2, 201610 yr No to all guesses. I'm really sorry if you are annoyed by this riddle OK I'm really giving it away now ! Look closely, are the singles equally interspersed in album songs, or PERHAPS NOT ? (wink, wink ;))
May 2, 201610 yr Well that's why I gave up on this theory to begin with- they are clearly NOT! Clever if this is the answer. I took "what they have in common" to mean they'd have to be in the same position but now I see that it is something in common if they are not. From what I see, we have: 12,3,5 so spaces between = 9,2 4,8,2,5 so 4,6,3 apart 5,2,10,14, 4,3,7 so 3,8,4,10,1,4 apart 9, ?, 3, 5,7,8 (Life in Technicolor I I - ? Not on VLV) so 3 (LITi is #1), 2,3,2,1 apart 3,5,4,6 so 2,1,2 apart 6,5,2 so 1,3 apart Is this what you are getting at? How do you address VLV, since LITii is not on it and you said EPs were not included?
May 2, 201610 yr they are clearly NOT! Look closely for the singles in each album. What do you notice about their positions relative to each other ? Also remember that X&Y is the second clue and converges on the same principle. X AND Y....
May 2, 201610 yr Every album has at least one pair of singles that appear next to each other. Is that it?
May 2, 201610 yr Isn't this solved yet? [emoji12] The scientist To tell you I set you apart
May 2, 201610 yr I have been staring at that picture too long. I hope I have marked every single though
May 2, 201610 yr Every album has at least one pair of singles that appear next to each other. Is that it? YESSSS ! Thank goodness someone got this very important part of the riddle right ! In every album two singles are next to each other ! Now lets call this principle duality, or things coming in pairs (which Clue2, X & Y, also alludes to) Find a Coldplay song where this is circumscribed ! (Finlal step in this riddle, then you are free to go and take a bloody revenge on me :D)
May 2, 201610 yr I'm sorry but what about AHFOD? Is Birds an official single? It is a video but not mentioned as a single.
May 2, 201610 yr Some guesses: One I love --> It's gonna tear us apart - Keep us together Princess of China --> You're holding in your hands the two halves of my heart
May 2, 201610 yr And some other nice ones: [emoji4] Every teardrop is a waterfal --> Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes Fun --> And two force, two forces collide
