Universal Coldplay Song?

Featured Replies

I was driving with a couple co workers and Yellow came on and everyone knew it. I don't really know their musical tastes but it got me to thinking, which song of Coldplay's do you think is that one universal song that everyone seems to know or like, even the casual listener? I'd have to say it is either Yellow or Clocks.

or The Scientist

I'd say Clocks wins out 'cause the piano riff is just so recognizable. I mean, there's nothing too special/different about Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You or Paradise that would make me recognize it before Clocks. I say Viva is a close second because its also recognizable and because of the whole plagiarism nonsense. Except Clocks has been out longer than VLV.

ASFOS as of now. Everyone is starting to get familiar with that song. But If I could pick one song from all albums in order, they would be like:

1. Yellow :parachutes:

2. Clocks & In My Place :arobtth:

3. Fix You & Speed of Sound :x&y:

4. VLV :viva:

5. Princess of China & Paradise :mx:

6. ASFOS & Magic :gs:

I think it's Paradise because I'm pretty sure everyone has heard that "para-para-paradise" hook...

Most of my mates don't like Coldplay to say the least but the three songs that got a mention from them at least once on the discussion of Coldplay songs in a positive light were Viva La Vida, Violet Hill and Paradise :)

Give it another 10 years and even people who loathe Coldplay's music will like at least an album's worth of songs from them!

This calls for a poll....

everyone knows viva la vida and paradise

Viva la Vida. It doesn't matter which country the boys visit on a tour, everyone knows how to sing the Viva chant. It connects people. I'm sure that even people that don't like Coldplay or don't really know who they are know about the song, since it has been played in the background of things a lot. Plus, it was insanely popular.

every one knows: paradise

every one likes: clocks

i dont like yellow because it can be cheesy, clocks doesnt that effect

because Clocks lyrics doesn't make sense (at least to me)

Clocks because of the piano riff for sure! Or Viva la Vida, everyone knows that "I used to rule the world" song, eh?

Oh it's definitely Viva, without competition.

I would say Fix You is very popular..Lots of people know the lyrics & write them down on various occasions. Also it was used on TV commercials & such..
