Frankly I'm glad that's the case with Aeterna. They don't need every upbeat song to be a hit. Sometimes a fun song can just be a fun song without the need to commercialize it.

I got a ton of targeted ads on virtually every online/social media platform and on top of that you have had a surge of popularity recently for Yellow and Sparks helping get them some algorithm help on streaming services. So I think Coldplay well-timed the release through the organic news of the tour plus an enormous advertising budget that helped push them over the edge. This band probably has unlimted money for advertising so it's hard to tell whether they made their money back. Plus there's other intangibles: The artwork is their best since AHFOD, people seem to like the music a bit better, there's possibly less competition as the enthusiasm for Sabrina and Chappell wears off.

October 15, 20241 yr I'm actually surprised of how solid this album is and even though some of the songs aren't in my favorite genre I still think they are good songs. All of my Love and iAAM are already new go-to Coldplay tracks for me. I even like We Pray even though it's not my style. Jupiter is classic Coldplay. Good Feelings is a "radio friendly" Coldplay song that I actually like quite a lot. Aeterna is EDM, but with a lot of Coldplay to it as well. Title track is magic, as well as Neon Forest/Angel song. One World is ok. The Karate Kid is top three so long from this era for me. Man in the moon is fun. To be honest I don't go back and listen that much to MOTS except for Coloratura. Same goes for AHFOD, but I get the feeling that I will return to this album a lot more in the future because I think it has more solid tracks and a different atmosphere to it. Just to add into your comment, I would like to highlight some great measures they took in the US: Signed CDs sent to Amazon, which has cheaper shipping compared to their store. Greater availability in retail, including indie stores, Target, Barnes & Noble, etc. Unusual QVC appearance, making more headlines (aside from being a shopping channel). Exclusive editions with attractive content like Chris' personal notes and new songs. Phil handled this really well, the only thing I would add is an album buyer presale on the tour. October 15, 20241 yr On a side note, it's quite interesting to see how much the band is trying to sell this album, and get the stats on international charts, etc. The appearance on QVC was really really surprising for me to see how far the four of them were willing to go to sell the album. In addition to the fact that Chris said that All My Love is the last single, this PR strategy seems to really hint that they want to make all the money they can with this album in order to finance their green technologies in the rest of the MOTS tour and also to finance the musical album/film. It might also be some kind of a contract requirement or pressure from Parlophone to achieve a target of sales/revenue (although I also think Coldplay are so massive now that Parlophone would also find it difficult to lay down conditions for the band to fulfill). What do you guys think? EDIT: Just another thought. I remember the ticket prices for the concerts in Mumbai, India were MUCH lower than the average ticket prices in Europe, etc., and I think the band did this to make it more affordable to the average Indian Coldplay fan. I'm guessing they also need to offset those costs somewhere. Either way, it's really interesting to look (vaguely, and not precisely ofc) at the business model of Coldplay, and how they might be trying to make a lot of ends meet for different people. I don't remember seeing printed adverts for MOTS but when I was travelling for six hours on the train yesterday I saw Moon Music posters at four or five stations in the UK. [imagine the poster because I ran out of space on my profile] Here's the only one I got a photo of, at Eastbourne station. I love all the tracks on my top 4 but I am lukewarm towards "Daylight" and "A Whisper" which is why it isn't up with the other oldplay albums.

The rest of it is great though. Green Eyes used to be my least favorite Oldplay song (with the exception of lost+ which I have disowned) but it has grown on me a lot. A Whisper and Daylight are good songs but just don't stack up against any of the songs on my top 4 coldplay albums and I feel they are a bit too repetitive.
