They still haven't responded to you? Yesterday I received my package of the pre-ordered Notebook Edition CD and in the box was just the standard vinyl which I didn't order. I sent them an email yesterday but I guess I will be waiting a long time for a response.

The support can be really weird. Either they'll get back to you within hours or they won't get back to you at all.

Now that it's been out for five days or so, I'm looking back at what I like and don't like:

Like/Love: Jupiter, Moon Music (it's really grown on me), The Karate Kid, Man in the Moon, iAAM, All My Love, Aeterna.

Dislike: Good Feelings is fine, but it doesn't do anything for me. Same with One World for the most part. We Pray feels very out of place, too, and I'm baffled that it's featured so early in the album. It should've been a standalone single.

I think this will be an album that grows on fans over time. It's considerably better than anything I was expecting.

I understand you, I don't understand how they can manage pre-orders, that they have been receiving for months, so poorly. Maybe they haven't had time to prepare them... 😠

I'm still waiting for my CD too. It's unfortunate and frustrating.

Also I don't understand why the "fullmoon" version doesn't come out in Europe, only in the US. What's happening, are there first and second class fans?

One World which is Brian Enos comeback 

It's been almost one week since Moon Music came out and... Yeah... This is much better than Music of the Spheres. I'm not sure if the album is a Top 3 for me yet, but it's definitely a Top 5. I haven't listened to anything outside of it after October 4th.

I added up the average track ratings I gave on RYM and it resulted in 4.5/5 which is way higher than I was expecting. In context I gave MOTS a 3 (which was quite generous tbh but I'm fully Coldplaypilled at this point) 

I suspect I'll forever have a bias with Moon Music. My heavily pregnant wife and I went to the cinema for the listening event, knowing it would be our final date together alone as a couple before we brought a kid into the world. Listening to the songs made her quite emotional, Jupiter and All My Love especially. So no matter what anyone says I'll always have that memory. 

In contrast, the first time we listened to MOTS together she burst out laughing at My Universe and said "this shit sounds like Nikki Webster!"

Yeah I think this is a really good album though of course it's not perfect. I don't really care about other people's opinions and tastes, but it has been interesting that this album is pretty critically divisive just like MOTS. Most reviews I've read & seen on YouTube fascinate me because generally nobody has anything bad to say. In fact reviews from the Gaurdian and Pitchfork, which both gave a 6/10 review, basically praised the album and talked about how good the songs and production often are only to give it a middling score. Meanwhile, Taylor's most recent album which was a massive bore with some of her most cringe lyrics sits at 76 on metacritic (and I say this as someone who likes her music). 

I hate to say it, but it feels like people are still trapped in this mindset that Coldplay just needs release Parachutes 2.0 or that because Chris Martin is focusing on lyrics about trying to love mankind it's somehow immature or not deep enough. They are often judged like either a bad pop act or a bad rock act but not as their own thing. Again, people can have their own tastes but at some point criticism needs to actually make valid points.

Pitchfork gave Rush of Blood a 5.1 and Parachutes a 5.3- getting a 6/10 seems slightly miraculous.

I love your mix of iAM by the way. Do you happen to have it in FLAC? (I’m sure you have more pressing things to worry about but either way it’s a great mix)

RE Moon Music - much better than MOTS, but overall I’m a much bigger fan of the Blue Moon version. It’s just slightly more retained and low key, which works much better I think. (But… I like Aeterna a lot). We Pray doesn’t fit with the vibe at all though.

I think the pitchfork review was probably more complimentary because the reviewer had the deleted version! Impressed they gave it a 6, that’s like an 8 for them!

It's been a week and I haven't stopped listening to this album - more so when Full Moon came out. 

Waaaaay better than MotS and AHFOD. It's much better than what I expected with a few expected duds. Full Moon nudged it ahead.

Top 5? Hmm maybe not but could possibly be better than X&Y. Might do a ranking soon...

 

This album brought me back to the forum and I think it's a return to form. Its a blend of their previous albums with some new stuff in there. 

And what a bonus The Karate Kid is!

The Pitchfork review was really good actually. I was quite surprised how generous they were, given Pitchfork aren't exactly known for being super kind. 6/10 might not seem like a great score but if you consider how they rated the other Coldplay albums, it's above average.

What do you mean by deleted version?

After a week listening to the album I must say that it is much better than expected.

It is clearly much better than MOTS. This (along with the songs we know about that haven't been released yet) makes me wonder why MOTS is such a bad album. It doesn't seem like it's a problem of lack of creativity on the part of the band.

I'm not going to do a song-by-song analysis of the album now, but, in general, most of them seem good or acceptable to me. I only have plenty of IiAM and good feelings. I would have changed these two for The Karate Kid and Man in the Moon and the album would be much better. Although well, de facto both songs are from this album, since they are in one of their versions.

I really like that they have reintroduced instrumentals (well done, not shit like on the previous album) and that they have several experimental tracks like AngelSong (one of my favorites), Neon Forest or One World. It feels like the direction Coldplay should be going.

Likewise, songs like All my Love or Karate Kid sound like Coldplay. To what we have always understood by Coldplay. And it makes me quite happy, since I have been waiting for this for many years. I think Coloratura would have fit this album much better, and would have catapulted it to an 8-9.

On the other hand, there is the issue of launches. It seems that they commented that there could be another album soon. Maybe it's another version of the album or an EP with several additional songs? We know that they have many demos from the MOTS era that they have not been able to publish because they would need many albums to do so. Hopefully we will see some of that published material. With the release of additional tracks on the full moon edition it seems we are heading in that direction.

Context is important here: Pitchfork was super indie in the 2000s, they hated anything popular back then.

I actually enjoyed their review. I don't agree with the rating of course, but it's consistent with their opinion (better than MOTS, not as good as EL) and the writer bothered to point out where the band can do better. A stark contrast with that attention seeking review from The Independent (1/5 compared to MOTS' 3/5).
