  1. Thanks for updating the first post mods/admins :) Yes indeedy!
  2. I know you weren't spamming, never suggested (or meant to suggest) you were! I understand each new review will get its own thread, and needs to right now, as the forum is set up as it's set up. It was a general moan about all these useless reviews, with a dry, and very tongue-in-cheek, suggestion about how to get round the problem - not meant to be taken seriously!! After reflecting a bit on what I said in my last post; I think almost all of these reviews are rubbish. I haven't heard the album yet, only the five or so tracks, but it's clear that those five alone would make it a decent album in most peoples' books whatever the rest were like. I don't think there is a 'reputable' music press as such. There are decent journalists and bad ones. Unfortunately most decent music journalists don't spend long on their respective publications, because if they're any good as writers they'll go on to other things. Personally I'm far more interested in detailed reviews here from fans. And if well-argued and written I'd accept anything from 0/10 to 10. Tldr version; any review giving the album 5/10 or less in the national press, or reviewing it in the equivalent of one or two paragraphs, should be totally dismissed imho!
  3. I'm tired of reading all these half-hearted excuses for journalism, and have no idea why they deserve a thread each. Just spam imho. Maybe we should have two review forums; one for serious reviews from (industry-respected) publications, and the other for pap like this?
  4. Wow, what an incredibly overwhelming reaction on the poll!
  5. That's amazing! I didn't have much doubt, even without Chris removing the head (and I guess that was the sole point of that but absolutely not needed for me) - it's great to have it confirmed, many thanks :sunny: You have fantastic taste in adjectives!! :elephant:
  6. I haven't heard the album yet, but so far I have no doubt it's HLH and CB Live for the studio versions (some editing will be needed no doubt for the transitions) plus add in Moving to Mars :) Quite possibly remove Major Minus as well - I don't care how well it fits thematically, I just don't like it.
  7. Reni was hilarious, never realised he was such a clown...incredibly dry wit too :laugh3: Completely agree about the body language - all four of them such utterly different personalities, yet all seemed completely comfortable with each other, and all very happy :) So the ticket sale for Friday is only for Manchester?
  8. I'm thoroughly enjoying the wait :) I might even wait until after the physical release, it's so nice to have something so exciting to look forward to, a bit like when we used to keep back Christmas presents until after Christmas lunch
  9. Watched the press conference today and I'm now filled with a lot more hope than after simply reading the transcript...it may not last long (they say as much themselves) BUT THEY ARE BACK!!
  10. I don't like the quick edits Mat's so fond of, and the spell was broken a little bit when Chris took the head off... otherwise I absolutely loved it, it made my day, and has transformed Paradise from a song I really really like to one I adore :D Fantastic!! :sunny: <edit> I also think it's brilliant that (we think) we know Chris did the whole thing without seeing his face, the love this band have for every little thing connected with their music is extraordinary :elephant:
  11. There is indeed. I think it's the way the song seems to build so very naturally, and then takes off in ways you don't expect...into heaven :D The Roses did that better than any other band I've ever heard. The songs almost ALWAYS took off, and you expected it, but you were no less blown away when it happened, because of the way they did it. I think the incredible genius of HLH is that when it takes off you really do feel like you're flying (just like 'the man'!) It's exhilarating as almost nothing else I've ever heard!! I think they beat the Roses on that one, definitely, and I can pay the boys no higher accolade :) Just listening to Love Spreads and the second part reminds me again so much of the way the outro of Yes live builds (remember talking to Miller about the Roses' outros)...that song really could have been built into something monumental. But ah well, we've got GPAS, and so back to the Roses, and good luck everyone with tickets :)
  12. 5. Just an instant (no doubt over)reaction to what struck me as an unnecessarily over-produced version of a song that was quite simply perfect as it was. If you don't want knee-jerk reactions don't post knee-jerk polls :P
  13. Just heard HLH and CB on Radio 1 and am completely shocked by the production...completely unnecessary imo. Maybe I'll grow to love them, but an awful lot of what made the live versions incredible seems to have been lost  For example - Jonny's guitar solo on HLH gets lost in the mix imo, the horrendous sub-par rave synth effects on CB - completely not needed, cheesy, and awful :\ Turned off the volume for now as I haven't heard PoC yet and don't want to till release day. If it's not over-produced and fiddled with though I'll eat my pop-up album when it arrives :(
  14. Gutted, it's nowhere near as good as the live :(
  15. Oh dear, what happened in the studio to Hurts Like Heaven
  16. Unbelievable story, so happy for you both, amazing story - thanks for sharing!! :sunny:
  17. Horrible remix of Paradise imo :( Ah, so the roadies didn't understand what had happened, thanks a lot for explaining :) Not here, that's for sure :laugh3:
  18. There was no difference at all between the leak and the release. I guess this announcement is just to stop pirates who are printing copies for sale in places like Vietnam. It's too late - they're probably already on the shelves.
  19. I haven't listened to the album yet (and won't until release), but this is what I worry about the most. It's not that he's a producer on the album (obviously he isn't) but he still influences the production, not least through the band themselves. Eno's a genius, yes, but genius =/= always what I want to listen to. Anyway, like I say I haven't listened yet, so very hopefully when I do I disagree :)
  20. Or, possibly, it could be exactly the same!! Indeed, the same thing did happen with VLV...the final master of the album leaked :P
  21. If anyone has a spare ticket then please please please help Cris out - she's coming all the way from Brasil for this!! :o
  22. Really worried about this...could be a car crash... Of course there's nothing I wouldn't give to see one of my all-time top 5 bands live (and probably the most important as I grew up) and in fine form but...well Ian's never been the best singer live, and while his gigs (with lots of Roses tracks) are usually hardcore fans and a real celebration, I see a lot of 'music tourists' coming to these and being disappointed. I just hope I'm wrong and they do themselves proud. No band deserves it more :) Oh yes! I've heard the band have played a number of Roses tracks in soundchecks, what I would pay to hear those!! And imo Squire should almost have got a writing credit on HLH for that guitar part, or perhaps they should have called it Adored Like Heaven :P I wish the band would let Jonny off the leash more often. The only track he really lets rip on as we know he can imo is GPaSUYF, which sounds as apocalyptic as the best Roses stuff (Made of Stone, Resurrection). The extended of Yes had promise too, but alas they dropped it before I ever saw it :(
  23. Oh, I've only just caught up with this news (sorry Nancy I am very late with catching up with email), and I'm so shocked and sorry to read about it... sp★rkle, are donations still needed (I am sure they are)? If so, where do you think is best for me to donate?
  24. I'm not listening, not a chance this time! I want to unwrap the album and listen to the whole thing properly :)
  25. The music press (and mainstream press in general) are a joke. They would have all, without exception, given it between 3 and 3 1/2 stars no matter what it was like (the general press up to 4 1/2 stars). Words count (somewhat, and depending on the source). Scores don't.
