  1. I guess I'm middle ranged then since I can sing most of their songs better than Martin himself. I don't rate him much as a live singer though, his studio efforts are as you would expect as good as he can do. Of course Martin is considerable more talented.
  2. Pfft Sex Pistols, at least The Clash were talented. God save the queen and her fashist regieme.... fuck off. Even so hes good fun in an interview.
  3. It's not a recent interview at all its after Amesiac was released in North America, he said it on live tv and he didn't mention Chris Martin at all. I doubt he was serious. Especially when Thom Yorke once told Noel Galligar where to go for his slating comments 'hey I went to music school, and it taught me to respect other artists'
  4. Low Green eyes Warning sign Swallowed in the sea
  5. I wonder if any of these singles is going to be an EP?
  6. I have to say I feel totally inclined to learn Vida la vida on acoustic (i've seen it done, its excelent) Lovers in Japan too, definatly Death and all his friends (I love the guitar transition) and I'd love to play Cemetries of London too, im sure it could be very creepy on an acoustic.
  7. You see Coldplay have got the band chemistry right, the timing is right, Chris is an intresting performer. But live, his voice is so flat and he can't seem to hit his high notes he so loves to put in his songs.
  8. - reader on the daily mail Few facts about the daily mail.... - They supported Nazi Germany, they even wrote Hitler a letter after Munich hoping he would become as liked in Britain as William the Conqueror. - They think all food additives are bad, this was their headline story when all the other papers had the abduction of a girl (that had shocked the nation) as thier headline. - They hate video games, take the view they are murder simulators - They validate their comments due to the ammount of hatred they've conjured up that people send in. - They refer to traffic cops as the 'traffic taliban' just policemen trying to do their jobs... - Their reader base believes Abu Hansa (a hook handed terrorist) is a bigger threat to the british way of life to the Archbiship of Cantabury... TWATS, basically.
  9. My thoughts on Vida la Vida (album) We said this would be their achtung baby or their Ok Computer I think we were wrong. Now im more inclined to say this is their Unforgettable fire, the experimental album with more good ideas than songs. Life in technicolour is a rare event, an intresting instrumental, U2 did some instrumentals in their time with Eno and none of them really worked. It's a great opener for an album that suprisingly didn't take itself too seriously. I was expecting they replaced the synth grandous of X&Y with another type of grandous, like string segments and such instead I was suprised to find Coldplay are now an art rock band and the songs wern't just martin song smithing with a Coldplay backing. This is definatly a revolution, for Coldplay at least. The new sound seems to incorporate lots of world music influences, Cemetries of London's ghostly chants and the totally overcooked Lost (i like it, but theres too much going on) 42, im not sure on, this is Coldplay's attempt to create a track not unlike Paranoid andriod or Bohemian Rhapsody by joining songs together, the lack of an intresting transition between the 2 parts of the song (think the crazed weaving guitars of the above bands) don't do this one justice. That and the two parts of this song don't really link too well. Lovers in Japan is lovely, not exactly classic Coldplay but a nice intresting yet happy song (just like Strawberry Swing) but it's only with repeated listens I realised I didn't like Reign of love. Yes with its winding Indian string segment takes Coldplay to a new sleezy level of love song, propably the biggest suprise on the album and one of my favorates. The interlude leading off reminds me of something else riff wise but is another highlight (overall the best 7 minutes of the album) Then you've got the 2 singles, Viva la vida has by now become a guilty pleasure to sing along to on a peaceful day now the lyrics have sunk in and Violet Hill is still a charming John Lennonish song. I worry these songs could get boring fast however due to the ammount of times i've already heard them. Death and all his friends, another highlight for sure, a brilliant opening great build up and final closer. The weakness here is the albums too disjointed to have felt like a journey leading to the revalation the line 'I don't want to follow death and all his friends' provides. Its a similar situation to Muse's absolution, Ruled by secrecy works as a closer because the rest of the album was leading to it. For most of Vida la vida it wasn't. Even so I was suprised, I was expecting a sad album and Coldplay's really shocked me with the exception of Reign of Love, a fantastic album and maybe another classic to join Parachutes and AROBTTH. For some reason listening to this album made me stick on Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon afterwards, theres some similiarities for sure. BUT why does Yes part 2 sound so familiar to me?

Pretty tough one X&Y (is my second fav CP album) wheras War is propably my 3rd/4th U2 one. So X&Y Don't believe the truth (oasis) Think Tank (blur)
  11. 26 songs, biggest gig I ever went to the band were on about an hour or so. 26 is just wow, the encore was 4 songs long value for money and genuinely an audience with Radiohead.
  12. "Not referring to biblical things for the sake of it in the hope of coming across as a bit abstract". Thats pants, lyrics can be about anything, written in any manor at all. As long as the lyrics don't feel out of place (VLV seems to be full of biblical imagry and the rest of the song is too) and the lyrics over all fit with the music you can break whatever rules you want, write about anything then try and fit a song around it.
  13. Hmm may be a good opportunity to buy Boy and October (i never bothered because i've got so many U2 albums) War - Pretty good, possibly a fav. The Unforgettable fire - = to war, some songs are forgettable. The Joshua Tree - A great album, the second side (the tribute to America) is brilliant. Rattle and Hum - my dad recommended this one, my guess is he doesn't know the name of the albums, its a mess and the songs are weak all around. Achtung baby - Strong set of songs here, except for one. But I find I skip individual tracks when they come on, nothing here really grabs me maybe because the theme of divorce is exausting and its Bono singing about someone elses divorce that annoys me. Zoopera - Not bad, didn't like it for a long time, some songs have grown on me tho (most of the album) All you can't leave behind - Weak middle and everything else is superb, propably a favorate if the middle is missed out 'when you look at the world' is a personal fav. Atomic bomb - Erm, bit redundant, lots to like here but were they even trying? except of course for 'sometimes you can't make it' Overall a great band, but not a fav.
  14. Don't think thats the lyrics. But on H.A.A.R.P Soldiers poem is a tribute to someone, they don't say who. My guess is John Lennon, does anyone know?
  15. I believe thats what you expect when you listen to Leaked singles of the album.
  16. Radiohead, their just a more intresting band. They both do what they do really well but Thom Yorke is way more intresting than Coldplay in an interview.
  17. I've never heard the 'you know how i know your gay joke' till I saw it on uncyclopedia. Nobodys ever said it to me which is funny because im actually that way inclined.
  18. StephenG replied to shagbal's topic in Coldplay
It's not really innovative, just coldplay trying new influences.
  19. My mates are to a degree open minded, maybe because were all 18ish or maybe because they know I listen to stuff other than Coldplay.
  20. StephenG replied to shagbal's topic in Coldplay
Their Stg Pepper / OK Computer / Urban Hymns ectra i.e quite litrally their masterpeice.
  21. I hate those guys, such snobs, totally more concerned with the image than the musicmanship. Makes a good read tho :shocked2:
  22. NME (which I don't trust) gave it 8/10 and another site 3/5. Metacritic hasn't got a page on Viva La Vida yet but I reckon the reviews arn't going to be as favorable as we were expecting. Which is a shame because ever the album isn't any better than the songs we already have or its not going to recieve the credit its due. Some people on Amazon claim to have been at a listening party however and they gave it a rave review, saying they succeeded in making a memorible album.
  23. I know Creep isn't the best song RH ever did. But its better than the best song of other various bands.
  24. Twisted logic / A Rush of blood to the head The choruses sum up everything good about music.
  25. Yeah, whos to say that source is reliable? only one website ran that rumour. And I remember it being last week there was supposed to be news.
