1. I don't think it will be famous on the level of Morning Glory, but I forcee in years time Amazon.com will direct people to Absolution if they want to try out Muse's back catalogue. Definatly Maybe and Absolution are similar, both have loads of great songs ontop of some very mediocre ones.
2. I hate this comment, why is BHAR so commercially offensive to people? how do you define commercial? successful? regardless not one song on BHAR is like another. On top of that the album wasn't all that successful single wise. I saw a band expanding in every way possible. I really don't understand the commercialisation concerns.
3. Radiohead have had better albums than INR but VLV has to be one of CP's best albums. Neither of them are the respective bands best work but both are unique artistic albums. If they came out both at once and the magic of Jigsaw and Bodysnatchers hadn't wore off I know id say Radiohead. Fact is I just bloody love a lot of the songs on VLV. @ above, people like Radiohead because their lyrics are very intelligent, paint a picture, the singing is highly emotive and most Coldplay fans draw a distiction from that.
4. Where hopefully they'll show some new songs.
5. Don't get great mixed up with classic. Morning Glory is a classic for sure. Muse however don't have any classics, but they do have 4 great albums. Yes history will forget Muse and remember Oasis at this rate. That doesn't make them a great band.
6. Well Muse has 4, Oasis has 1, Travis has 3, U2 has 6, Radiohead 7... ectra and yes thats great albums not just good ones. To me theres definatly a drop in quality in later Oasis, but thats music subjectiveness.
7. Because they used to write good songs, now they don't. Oasis used to be relivent, Cigerettes and Alcohol and Rock and Roll star defined a generation of music lovers, total anthems for the masses. Now they just arn't as relivent.
8. 2+2=5 had a great video, this is it. <param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"> Dunno how to embed. Heres the actual link.
9. Yeah Damon Albarn is a great musician, I just wish he would get back with Blur because Blur are better than any other of his successes such as the Gorrilaz.
10. All their music videos pretty much. Radiohead have the best music videos ever. My favorates are Karma Police and 2+2=5 and Wolf at the door. Of course you can see all these on youtube, instead of buying the DVD.
11. I once saw a site like this looking out the window on a plane. I thought wow thats just beautiful why don't they take pictures of it more often than they do. The fact its used for this album means they really believe in the project. Lets hope it fits the bill.
12. Travis annoy me, I love the band but they release the most Travisy songs as albums and leave anything geniunely intresting as a B-side.
13. No thats completely over the top. The way I see it is Radiohead are the equivelent of books like Animal farm / 1984 / War and Peace (books they've referenced in their works especially hail to the theif and Kid A) they're the high brow interlectual band and like those books are refered to as high brow, intelectual and genius. Coldplay they're more the shy kids who write poetry books about their feelings. Nothing wrong with that at all, except of course in the grand scheme of things Radiohead (being the high brow intelectual band) will always get the most recognition.
14. It's not really a review. It's just an opinion. To make it a review try and actually pass judgement on the subject matter. Reviews are there to push your viewpoint, numbers don't do that, explaining in more than a sentance does. And avoid sweeping statements.
15. Propaganda works, people wern't exactly the most diplomic back in the 1930's. Hitler could have happened anywhere really, i'm suprised it hasn't happened more often pre holocaust.
16. Fav verve songs is a toughy. Velvet Morning / Come on / Space and time / Drugs dont work / The rolling people / Bittersweet symphany / where the geese go (B side look it up) I love all the verve but really Urban Hymn's owns anything else they've done pretty bad.
17. Because this one really really is annoying me lately. Since the release of their new album they seem to have attracted all sorts of hostility from the mass media and not to be a rabid fanboy but its all unfair. Viva la vida sees them pushing their simplistic pop sound and cherpy guitars to a sound more akin to art rock. When Radiohead/U2 did this they were applauded, when the Beatles did this (Stg Pepper onwards) it was a magical moment in music history. When Coldplay do it people can't dismiss it fast enough. And pardon me If I think Strawberry Swing and Yellow are the closest we've came to the simplistic joy of the earlier Beatles hits in 60 years, while The Scientist stands up there alongside Yesterday as a brilliant ballad. Looking at the usual complaints for Coldplay now, heres a few. They just try far too hard to be Radiohead, they just copy the The Bends (Radiohead album) in its entiraty and are completely unoriginal Parachutes Coldplay's first CD has been accused of sounding like the Bends as much as Muse. (another band with little influence from Radiohead musically) Lets be serious back in the 90's Radiohead revolutionised modern rock, they changed the definitions of what a rock band could be and what band could not be influenced by them? Chris Martin certainly makes no bones about how much he admires them. But looking back at Coldplay's early EP's and recordings the sound is much different to early Radiohead. Parachutes is a logical progression of this sound with heavy bass around winding atmospheric guitars. Plus when did Radiohead write songs as bouncy and simplistic as Yellow or Shiver. From here you get the piano driven A Rush of Blood to the head. Radiohead never really used piano dominatly, sure they have some piano driven songs most notably Karma Police and Videotape but once again are they anything like Clocks and The Scientist? Coldplay then went all arena rocky with XandY and the similarities with U2 began. Then again what big arena pleasing band isn't compared to U2? Case closed. I suppose any light rock band with a multi ranged singer would be compared to Radiohead though. That and the fact both write complex and intresting music about themes anyone can relate to. Its music for wimps and teenage girls If Coldplay was for everyone, if everyone was sensitive enough to appreciate their ballads or the brilliance of Radiohead's lyrics and the innocence of their voices, i'm sure the world would be a better place. The best rock bands only rock out when it adds something to their music and don't all sound the same. Like some entire genres of none wimpy music with a more masculine reputation (like metal) Im sick of hearing people like Chris Martin promoting fair trade Never did get this one, really ignorant comment there. When rockstars get behind a good cause to raise awareness its a good thing, not a bad thing. I think pretty much any critism of Coldplay anyone has come up with has been adressed here, so the Daily Mail can stop slagging them off and go back to slagging off immigrants instead.
18. Feeder - Silent Cry (The guys sounded a bit like coldplay a few years back, now they sound far more focused and rockier, has some real alternative rock anthems worth checking out)
19. Yes Urban Hymns is the breakthrough one with all the biggest hits Drugs don't work, bitter sweet symphony (a fantastic if daunting listen at 70 minutes). Then theres A Northern Soul, it has some great songs but I find it quite forgettable except for the singles. Basically a lot of psychodelic go nowhere epics with nothing that stands out. Their first album A Storm in Heaven is also brilliant, from when nobody knew them pretty much. Its a great psychodelic shoegazer record but nothing like Urban Hymn's. And Fouth which will of course be better than VLV when it finally arrives to rock our world :)
20. Gotta love early Verve She's a Superstar is my shoegazer anthem.
21. Fuck yes, thats gotta be the best album closer ever.
22. Egg laying Hitler is laying an egg Flying Hitler is flying Rayman Hitler is Rayman Rock Hitler is rocking Paint job Hitler likes you, the question is, do you like paint job Hitler?
23. Well I'm really getting into these guys now. Just got Life's rich pagent and Murmur. Their earlier sound is similar to the newer, bouncy guitars!
24. I think The Verve's set was a glastobury moment, along with Radiohead in 97 doing Exit Music (for a film)
