  1. Last time I saw PJ I wasn't that much of a hardcore fan like I was when I saw Coldplay. Not to mention I won the lottery for Coldplay. This time I had way better seats for PJ thanks to the 10 Club! They just seemed to be really into it and they brought it! I think the original closer was Rocking In The Free World, but Mike wasn't done and started playing Yellow Ledbetter to which Stone ran on the drums for, which was awesome. Of the three Coldplay shows I've seen they were very similar in set and feel. While Pearl Jam had a great feel they just seem to bring it to another level. Chris needs to befriend Vedder badly. That was the best moment I have ever witnessed live. Better than The Police Playing for the first time in 23 years in concert. Better than Coldplay playing The Scientist, better than U2 playing Where the Streets Have No Name...You feel Ed somehow channeling Andy there...AMAZING. Coldplay step it up! :P

Loved them opening with Small Town, and it just built and built until Given To Fly where the stadium just went nuts. I was row 14 in the stands and we were all jumping in the chorus. The encores were just amazing. Alive this go around was just nuts. 15,000 people throwing their arms and screaming "hey" The best part of the night however was Chole Dancer/Crown of Thornes. We heard it soundchecked and he just put so much into it. I loved it so much and lost my mind when they started. I was also so freaken happy to hear Garden, at first I didn't recognize it then, clued in and went nuts. Eddie just rocked out on Porch, I mean my god. Everyone was really into it, Stone even stole the drums from Matt for Yellow Ledbetter... Coldplay, you have been usurped as the best concert I've seen. I will download and listen to this bootleg for years.
  3. Don't know if any of you got out to see PJ20, it was pretty f***king awesome! They really focused on the start with Andy Wood and how he shaped the band, especially Stone and Jeff. Cornell interviews were awesome and helped show the community of the bands around in that city. Two favourite parts of the film were the performance of 'Breath' in Vancouver where Eddie kind of snaps from calm, shy, nervous Ed to the one that took over the world. Then the Stone interview through his house. Any fan will love this movie, and its soundtrack was amazing too! It has me super stoked for Sunday and I expect PJ to go into overdrive!
  4. So my week celebrating Pearl Jam 20 is finally here! I bought the Pearl Jam Twenty book and am currently glued to it, I would take it everywhere if it werent for the size. I got my tickets to see the screening of Pearl Jam 20 tomorrow night and am above excited for this one. Then it is all capped off on Sunday when Ed and the boys send off the Canadian PJ20 tour in Vancouver.
  5. Seeing Pearl Jam for the second time in two years this Sunday.
  6. I bought the track when I woke up for work, loaded it on the iPod and resisted the urge to listen to it until I hit the road. I wanted this to be the first new Coldplay song I listened to on good speakers. Violet Hill was on laptop speakers at 5am, Viva La Vida the next night on same speakers. Every Teardrop I managed to find my headphones for. Now let me say this, I am a huge fan of Charlie Brown, the Glasto version is one of my top played songs. I was a bag of emotions when they announced Paradise instead of CB. I did not anticipate it what so ever. I bought it this morning out of fear more than anything. I didn't want to hear it on the boombox at work. I spun the track when I got in my truck, and was kind of confused by the strings and wondered where it was going. That is when the dubstep bass kicked in (which I haven't really seen mentioned.) My first thought there was Jay and Kanye got to Chris. The first verse came on and I loved the jam Chris and Will had going on. The piano and drums clicked and I loved the lyrics right off the bat. The first Para-Para-Paradise I loved and still do. The solo piano with bits of production on the mini bridge was just perfect. The chorus of Para-Para-Paradise is only saved by the now trademarked ohs of Coldplay. Johnnys little subtle guitar riff towards the end reminds me of Edge's simple D chord in With Or Without You, noticeable but it doesn't take from the mood of the song. I gave the song an 8 out of 10. The highest I've ever rated a song here was 9 for LiT ii, and 10 for Politik. This song is brilliant in every way. What I dont get is how everyone is saying Coldplay sold out here on this one... I do not see this beating Viva La Vida, Clocks or even Speed of Sound charts wise. The other thing, and if you haters haven't noticed yet, Chris Martin is not Bono. His main talent does not lie in poetic lyrics. "[Coldplay] have beautiful melodious, extraordinary songs... unbelievable singers...they are great, truly great." Those are the words out of Bono's mouth. Chris writes these types of songs that have McCartney like melodies. Bono has a talent for writing poetry in song form, and is backed by three great musicians. Bono does have the ability to write good melodies, just not like Chris. Much like Chris can write good lyrics, just not like Bono. Now I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and mine is that this is an amazing song. I can't believe the shock many fans have had, look at Lukas, Wedding Bells and Christmas Lights. This is like the female version of Lukas, which for the record I believe right now would have fit perfectly here. Chris has stated he is writing a story and this is obviously a piece of it.
  7. If they continue with what Vancouver did with the Cultural Olympiad Coldplay should be playing a show or two. Vancouver had free concerts, exhibits from all the different Provence's of Canada and a bunch of other cool things. Big names on Canadian radios played free concerts nightly at three different outdoor venues for the whole two weeks. With the biggest name act being City and Colour playing a medium sized venue for cheap a couple times. However I do not know if London is doing all that stuff. They all jumped down Vancouver's throat for just being a giant party, but it was fun and about the sports. I imagine they will have free High Tea though.
  8. On Bono's voice, because they did North American stadiums his voice suffered greatly traveling through the South and Mid-West. Bono, as he found out in 1997 when they launched Popmart in Las Vegas, is allergic to a desert weed in the air and his voice suffered greatly. On top of which years of smoking caught up to him and in 2000 had a cancer scare and had his vocal chords operated on. Bono's voice is better in the European climate for obvious reasons, more moisture in the air, however the second he hits a dry area it goes to shit. Coldplay, took the world by storm with Viva La Vida and this is their last sure shot at the grand slam tour. They need to put on a show, since we all know they arent into Pearl Jam/Springsteen style simplistic shows. They are a lot like U2 in how they perform live and a comparison that is often overlooked greatly.
  9. With or Without You was the first single off the Joshua Tree, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For was the second, the third and best was Where the Streets Have No Name. Charlie Brown will be the third and highest charting single.
  10. This is their Joshua Tree in a sense, U2 were around and popular before The Unforgettable Fire, with "New Years Day", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", however when UF was released it contained one of their biggest hits ever, and one of the biggest in music history. 'Pride' is still played to this day, it hit the top of the charts, but helped them drive their own ship. Of course Coldplay enjoyed a larger degree of success faster into their careers than U2, Coldplay had a number one single on their first go with 'Yellow' they had a masterpiece album at number 2. One would say that MX is their Achtung Baby. This is their chance to answer the critics, those who say they aren't genuine. They have achieved success around the world, now this is their chance to pull a 180 and blow people out of the water and say "wow". This album will also need a tour to the level of Zoo TV, not the Joshua Tree Tour. Zoo TV was a show on epic proportions. Coldplay need to ball up and book themselves into North American Stadiums. They sold out the Rogers Center in Toronto more than once, believe me when I say they can sell out Soldier Field, the Rose Bowl, Quest Field, and they need to take the risk. Coldplay had their Joshua Tree and that was Viva La Vida, they were applauded and criticized. Now its time for them to say "Fuck it, we are going to put on a show"
  11. My list is pretty short Fragile Bird - City and Colour Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See Upcoming ones are what Im waiting for: LP5 - Coldplay (Obviously) Watch the Throne - The Throne (Jay-Z and Kanye West) Untitled - The Arkells
  12. My God - Natalie Imbrugulia Hole In My Shoe - Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders Night and Day - U2 Apparitions - Matthew Good Band Someday We'll Know - New Radicals Vibrate - Outkast Sweetness Follows - R.E.M. All Apologizes - Nirvana Hey Now - Oasis Big Me - Foo Fighters
  13. Going to join in here. Nope. Temple of the Dog
  14. I had tons of trouble with them too, still do. The trick for me was not pressing with the flat of my fingers but the side...if that makes sense. Instead of pressing like you would normal strings, hold with the side of your index finger at almost a 45 degree angle towards the other fingers.
  15. I know this may be out there, but why didnt you just prime the parts that were going to hard to blend? If you primed the part say for the Fix You lyics with the VIVA style brush strokes you would have gotten way better blending. In fact, I would have taken all the plastic off and primed it all. But brush strokes would have worked...
  16. Its black and smooth, if I could find mine I'd send it to you.
  17. Jonny uses a ProCo RAT on In My Place, its wired to be the middle between distortion and overdrive. It gives a boost like OD does, and only muddies it up about half of what a fender pedal would. However I think on In My Place its more of a distortion since he has an Ibanez Tube Screamer for OD. I find with my set up, I throw delay to about 215ms, my Rat to about 3 and gain at about 2.5 with my pickup selected at the low two on my Strat. Gives a rock solid sound to it. Its also the exact same for One I Love and Moses. I prefer delay to reverb and chorus anyhow.
  18. EMI has been telling record stores it will be an October release. I expect them to announce it a week before October with the lead single. Wasn't the name rumored to be latin?
  19. I LOVE the new touches Jonny put on his Politik solo. I did not think I could love that song anymore than I already did, and when I was watching Glasto, it blew me away. It rocks live too, its one of the two of my personal favorites Ive seen of all the bands I love. I was mad when U2 didn't play Bad. Now Im all gushy about Politik. I do believe Charlie Brown will be the lead single off the album, and it will rock the charts.
  20. I like how they are messing around with their structures. However I believe that there is a bigger reason to it all. I remember them saying they were doing an album that has a story to it. It makes me think that the album is structured more like a song would be. One song acts as a verse, next song is the second verse third chorus, fourth verse, fifth chorus, sixth bridge. Sorta like that. For example, Charlie Brown hasno real chorus, its the guitar part, but lyrically and feel wise nothing there to be seen. Where if you look at MX/Hurts Like Heaven it feels like one long chorus. Major minus is another chorus type song. The only normal song that could hit the album is Wedding Bells. I guess what I'm trying to say is LP5 is a concept album kind of like The Wall. They way the songs are structured and the rumored 85 minute length give me that impression.
  21. Agree that the second verse to Charlie Brown. I just love the way they sing it live.
  22. I will pull out the U2 comparison right here. Look at the Joshua Tree, perfection in my opinion. It has a damn near perfect flow, amazing sound and amazing soul. Then look at Achtung Baby, which has slowly won me over and is a much better album. They have polar opposite sounds. One is an american blues driven album, the other a european alternative sound. Coldplay has done a similar thing. I hate to say it, they are too damn happy. No more women angst, no more angst about being approved by the masses. Coldplay are right now, the biggest band in the world. It took U2 a dissolved marriage and massive criticism to produce another masterpiece. Coldplay need to find the heart and soul again. On that note, I love the new stuff, I think its brilliant. Mind you Im and X&Y fan, not so much Parachutes and AROBTTH...
  23. An Observation About the New Songs So I was driving around with the Glastonbury concert playing, listening to Charlie Brown, which is the best of the new cuts, in my opinion. When I noticed something, and the same can be said about all the new tracks. There are no choruses. Here are the lyrics to Charlie Brown: I stole a key Took a car downtown where the lost boys meet I took a car downtown and took what they offered me To set me free I saw the lights go down at the end of the scene I saw the lights go down and they're standing in front of me Oooh My scarecrow dreams When they smashed my heart into smithereens I be a bright red rose combusting the concrete Be the cartoon heart Light a fire, oh light a spark Light a fire, a flame in my heart We'll run wild We'll be glowing in the dark Glowing in the dark Oooh ooh ooh Ah ah aahhh All the boys, all the girls All the madness/families in the world All the boys, all the girls All the madness that occurs All the highs, all the lows As the room is spinning, oh We'll run wild We'll start glowing in the dark So we saw an innocent liar(?) We'll be glowing in the dark Now, I will compare them to In My Place, the song I see as being most like it musically. Since they are comanded by a Jonny riff and guitar, with rather quite verses by Jonny and Will. In my place, in my place, Were lines that I couldn't change, I was lost, oh yeah. I was lost, I was lost, Crossed lines I shouldn't have crossed, I was lost, oh yeah. Yeah, how long must you wait for it? Yeah, how long must you pay for it? Yeah, how long must you wait for it? I was scared, I was scared, Tired and underprepared, But I wait for you. If you go, if you go, Leave me here down on my own, Well I wait for you. Yeah Yeah, how long must you wait for it? Yeah, how long must you pay for it? Yeah, how long must you wait for it? Sing it Please, please, please, Come back come sing to me, To me, me. Come on and sing it out now, now Come on and sing it out To me, me Come back come sing it In my place, in my place, Were lines that I couldn't change, I was lost, oh yeah. Oh yeah. There is a clear chorus for In My Place, but Charlie Brown not that I can see. It has a verse, with the riff. Followed by another verse and the riff again. It then has a bridge and outro...Now I'll look at Every Teardrop... I turn the music up, I got my records on I shut the world outside until the lights come on Maybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone I feel my heart start beating to my favorite song And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night Until Monday morning feels another life I turn the music up I'm on a roll this time And heaven is in sight I turn the music up, I got my records on From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song Don't want to see another generation drop I'd rather be a comma than a full stop Maybe I'm in the black, Maybe I'm on my knees Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes But my heart is beating and my pulses start cathedrals in my heart And we saw oh this light I swear you, emerge blinking into to tell me it's alright As we soar walls, every siren is a sympohny And every tear's a waterfall Is a waterfall Oh Is waterfall Oh oh oh Is a, is a waterfall Every tear is a waterfall Oh oh oh So you can hurt, hurt me bad But still I raise the flag Oh It was a wa wa wa wa wa-terfall A wa wa wa wa wa-terfall Every tear Every tear Every tear Every tear Every teardrop is a waterfall Every tear Every tear Every teardrop is a waterfall Once again not a single chorus. We have a verse, followed by a guitar part another verse a bridge and outro. Compared to say Viva La Vida, which we all know has a chorus. Then you have a song like Major Minus which seems to be one long chorus, with short verses. Moving to Mars once again not a single chorus, then MX/Hurts Like Heaven is almost a never ending chorus. Anyone else notice the weird structure to the writing of the songs? I haven't had a lot of time to examine the keys and progressions of the songs, so on that note I cant be concrete on saying anything there. Maybe they are doing a concept album where they build the tracks to act like one long song.
  24. Weird thought, which of the guys would get the best time round the Top Gear track in the "Reasonably Priced Car"? I would say Guy; Chris would lose outright.
  25. I never thought it would be possible to love Politik more...but whatever they have been feeding Jonny they need to give him more. A song that I saw as perfect before sounds even better with Jonny turning the gain up and adding another interval to the solo. I was watching and had a "Holy shit, this song just got better, IMPOSSIBLE!" Charlie Brown which is my favourite of all the new ones was just pure awesome. I love the four part harmony on "Light a fire, light a spark, light a flame in my heart" bit. Plus the riff at the end where Chris jacks the crowd up to 11. I really wish I had gone. I hope they play again in 2013 as they should be closing their tour as I'd love to see them
