  1. Well I would argue that Ok Computer is musically more challenging and refined. Of course Definitely Maybe is also very beautiful although it is simpler than Ok Computer. But then again, as I said, it is very hard to compare music in this way and stay objective (especially in this case where both mentioned albums are top-notch). I think beauty and artistic value are two different things. Beauty is subjective and cannot be measured objectively. Artistic value, however, I would simply define as "how much intelligence/information is put into the artwork". I disagree with your point about commercial music not being music. I see Nicki Minaj's work still as music but on a lower artistic level. What would you say if a truly talented musician happens to have earning money as his life-goal? Would his music be bad just because of his motives? By the way folks, have you heard about this: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/chris-martin-david-bowie-rejected-coldplay-collaboration-20141214 ? Now that would have been a collaboration to my liking!
  2. As we are already off-topic, let me state my opinion on this music-discussion. Of course music taste is subjective and what someone likes may sound horrible for the other. But still there is a certain kind of "objective" rating of music. You may analyse a musical piece and find out how structured it is, how elaborate a composition in all its details is. Does it use innovative melodies, harmonies, rhythms etc.? Is it in itself a well worked-out and self-contained entity? Are the lyrics meaningful and thought-provoking and do they work well together with the music? Or is it just another dull mass-product with lyrics that refer to the most primitive drives (sex, power and money) and reaffirm the mainstream opinion? Is it just another simple beat that is repeated a hundred times over and over with the same 4 chords? Is it another one of these singers whose only quality is sex-appeal and whose voice has to be altered electronically to stay in the right key but is still regarded by society as an "artist"? I'm just saying that although it is difficult to create a more or less objective rating of a musical composition it is possible. Of course this does not mean that everyone should like the same stuff or only listen to the most elaborate kind of music. You can like whatever you want and I too am often in the mood for some easy-listening stuff but saying that Lil' Wayne is on a musical level equal to Beethoven is just ridiculous. Btw, Massive Attack rocks! :) And yes, AROBTTH 2.0 would be fantastic but I highly doubt it.
  3. Don't want to be too negative but what really puts me off is the "snapping" beat in the beginning. It reminds me more of a contemporary hip-hop track. I just really don't like electronic beats. It's the same thing that bothered me with True Love. I don't know why they decided to use so much electronic percussion since MX. Gladly the snapping stops during the song, which apart from that is quite good.
  4. All we need is more Jon Hopkins! His last album was sick, I really hope he's getting more involved in LP7.
  5. I have to admit I didn't like the Magic video at all, but the video for True Love is superb. I can't remember having laughed so much while viewing a music video recently. And I mean it in a good way. The costumes are hilarious and the storyline very cute. I don't understand the negative reactions by some people. Would you rather have an overly schmaltzy video about oh, such deeeeep love that Chris feels for some random actress girl? In a four minute video you either do something creative (like in Strawberry Swing) or something funny and this video is in my opinion a great music video -> 8/10
  6. 1. Viva La Vida + Prospekt's March 2. A Rush Of Blood To The Head 3. X&Y 4. Ghost Stories (incl. the 3 bonus tracks) 5. Parachutes 6. Mylo Xyloto
  7. uhm... okay... I guess there are some people...
  8. Haha, I find it really funny how music companies try to make money with everything. Who in the world would buy an album just because there are three pins in it? And who would seriously wear these? But I agree that it's totally annoying that the bonus tracks are only available in the US - especially since two of the best songs on the album are bonus tracks. I'd love to get one of these deluxe editions but since non-Americans supposedly shouldn't buy it, I'm forced to download the bonus tracks. It's really a shame. What about Chris saying that the bonus tracks would be available for everyone in 6 months? Will there be something like a second Prospekt's March with "left-over" tracks released? Or does that mean, that in 6 months the deluxe edition will also be sold in the rest of the world?
  9. Clearly All Your Friends/Ghost Story. Together with O these are my top 3 songs on the album. This sound is why I've become a Coldplay fan. Can't get enough of it.
  10. goodmusiclover replied to Tash's topic in Ghost Story
THIS! It seems incredible to me that these are bonus tracks. This is the best Coldplay I've heard since VLVODAAHF. Apart from the powerful lyrics the song reminds me in a good way of the Viva era. In my opinion they should have swapped Magic and Ink with All Your Friends and Ghost Story.
  11. Seriously, I can't believe this is a Bonus Track. This is one of my favourite tracks on the album. I love their darker songs and the lyrics are incredible. This is Coldplay at the top of their genius. Imagine listening to that song in a warm summer night looking up at the sky.
  12. Ugh, why do people even try to make a remix like that? Just shows how stupid some people are. I'm sorry, but people who only listen to music that they can dance to must be soulless. I'm very open-minded about musical styles, but when you only listen to Techno/House day-in and day-out you're just missing something. And regarding the ESC: I don't watch TV often but everything I've ever heard from that song contest was crappy generic music for the masses. So I don't care who won, I didn't expect much anyway.
  13. I do love this album. But like everywhere there are also some negative points. - Only electric drums used - I don't like the heavy beats that are used in some songs - Some songs (Ink, A Sky Full Of Stars, Magic) felt a bit overly mainstream. These are my only negative points. I really love this album and think it's much, much better than MX!
  14. I totally agree with all of you! We can just be really grateful to know such an extraordinary band. Coldplay, thank you for everything. Keep on producing high-quality music! You are the best!
  15. I think the band wanted these notes to sound a bit odd. You could interprete these "weird sounding" notes as the musical way of expressing the lyrics. The beauty of the sentence "I love you" is damaged by the fact that the girl is lying: "So tell me you love me. If you don't then lie" However, the harmonic tension is always released because Johnny bends the tones a half-tone upwards so that they are back in the scale. I really like these weird parts in songs because they make music much more interesting.
  16. 1. O 10/10 Hands down, this is definitely the best song on the album. Absolutely beautiful, this is Coldplay at their best. O may be my favourite Coldplay song ever. 2. Always In My Head 10/10 As always, the band's intro and outro are fantastic. I love the atmospheric feel of this song. 3. Midnight 9/10 When I first heard it I didn't really like the song but it has grown on me. Now it's one of my favourites on the album. I just love it when the guys are going experimental. 4. True Love 9/10 Among all the other songs this one has a special and odd feeling to it - and I love that. The best part is when Johnny comes in towards the end. 5. Oceans 8.5/10 This one reminds me a lot of Parachutes. It hasn't been mentioned often but in my opinion the best part is the hidden track at the end. I've always loved music where extra-musical sounds are used to tell stories and create certain atmospheres (best example: Pink Floyd). In addition to that I really love the sound of bells. As someone mentioned in his/her review before, I would have loved more of these experiments with different noises and sounds. 6. Another's Arms 8/10 It's a beautiful song but it would have been even more beautiful without the thumping electro-drums. 7. A Sky Full Of Stars 7/10 It's good for what it is. I'm just not a really big fan of EDM. 8. Magic 6.5/10 I appreciate the details in the song but I can't help: it just sounds a bit boring and too mainstream to me. 9. Ink 5/10 I hope this will grow on me. Right now I don't like it very much.
  17. The visuals fit the album really well. I think it enhances the listening experience. It feels like sitting on a beach at a warm summer night and watching the waves and stars. One of the most beautiful moments was when the moon came out. @The Lonely Martian: awesome avatar, I love it!

  19. I'm not a big fan of the electronic percussion on GS because in my opinion it makes the beat much too prominent. For example in the studio version of AA I would have rather liked a soft background brushing than that thumping rhythm. It reminds me a bit of contemporary R&B. As with GS, in my opinion a more dreamy-like percussion would have fitted the ghostly atmosphere of the album better than synthetic beats that could also have been produced by a drum-machine.
  20. I like the studio version better. It's more mysterious than the live version and because of its production the song has more "layers". The only thing that bugs me is the electronic percussion. It gives the song a kind of synthetic R&B-like sound :(
  21. 1. O (probably best Coldplay song ever) 2. Midnight 3. Always In My Head 4. Oceans 5. Another's Arms 6. A Sky Full Of Stars 7. Magic (the only song I don't really like)
  22. Sorry to quote this again but I literally had to laugh out loud. :D :D :D This thread is better than any comedy show xD
  23. I've listened to the part on the BBC interview again and right now I think this is the best song on the album. It's so beautiful, it gave me shivers and wet eyes - and that usually doesn't happen. I'd give it a 10/10. Chris may be right in saying this is the best thing they've ever done.
  24. Why isn't Bahasa Indonesia on Google Translator? I can't translate all the infos..
  25. I still can't believe that Indonesia has had the song for half a month and no one put it on the Internet. WHAT IS GOING ON?? (really need that song)
