How EastEnders Michelle went from Albert Square to Hollywood's Bionic Woman By ELIZABETH SANDERSON - More by this author » Last updated at 22:56pm on 6th October 2007 Comments For most actors, abandoning a top-rated soap opera is career suicide. But former EastEnders star Michelle Ryan has just achieved the impossible, managing to ditch the image of dowdy Albert Square market trader Zoe Slater to become a robotically enhanced action heroine in one of the biggest new shows on American TV. 7. Pioneering research into a "gay bomb" that makes enemy troops "sexually irresistible" to each other has scooped one of this year's Ig Nobel Prizes. The Air Force Wright Laboratory, Dayton, Ohio, USA, won the award for instigating research & development on a chemical weapon -- the so-called "gay bomb" -- that will make enemy soldiers become sexually irresistible to each other. I remember telling people about this a year or two ago and they thought I was making it up. "Gay bomb" is an informal name for a theoretical non-lethal chemical weapon, which a United States Air Force research laboratory speculated about producing. In 1994 the Wright Laboratory in O…

  8. http://www.i-doser.com Apparently, this is 100% legal and 100% true. I didn't know about it until last night. My friend was rambling on about how he did the "Astral Projection" dose and explained to me the trip he had where he flew into outer space and saw the galaxy from up-close. I still thought it was bullshit, so I watched one of my friends do a dose of "Content" last night. This is a guy who has never bullshitted me or lied to me before. After he was halfway through the dose, he was in a euphoric high. It was like "Office Space", where he could not be brought down or pissed off for any reason whatsoever. ANYWAY... I think I might try this tonight. Anyone hav…

In October 1979, photographer Anton Corbijn, the son of a rural Dutch Protestant minister, set out for England in pursuit of Unknown Pleasures. That was the title of the dark, expansive debut album from the Manchester post-punk band Joy Division, and to Corbijn it was an artistic clarion call. "I thought, 'I want to be where that music comes from,' " says Corbijn, now 52. "It was my mission to photograph Joy Division." Within two weeks he took an iconic picture of the band that showed singer and lyricist Ian Curtis turning back toward the camera, with unwitting portent, while his bandmates faced forward; six months later, Curtis killed himself at the age of 23. Now Corbij…

Tax rise fuels petrol price fears Petrol prices could surge to near record highs following a 2p rise in fuel duty. That increase could push up the average price of unleaded to about 98p, while diesel could exceed £1 if the cost is passed on to motorists. The Petrol Retailers Association said the rise would put an undue "strain on motorists and petrol retailers alike". BBC economics editor Evan Davis said the rise would be nearer to 2.3p when VAT was taken into account. The increase, in line with inflation, was first announced in Gordon Brown's 2007 Budget when he was chancellor. The duty rise comes amid soaring oil prices and high borrowing costs. The B…
