I know right! Their touring schedule is crazy, I still can't see why they did the Amsterdam show in the middle of the UK tour (fyi they're doing London - Amsterdam - London in three nights :freak:). That must be exhausting. But still, everyone at my show was really enthusiastic and full of energy. Damon even seemed close to manic, he was so happy! :D

Perfect setlist much???? :dead:
Haha, yes! The only thing I really missed was O Green World, but I can live with that.

I should've taken an extra set of eyes though, I was so busy watching the band I missed a lot of the amazing animations. I must have a dvd. :wacky:

Hi. I just returned from seeing Gorillaz. They totally blew my mind (and ears for that matter). :nice:

:bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: :bomb:

YAAAY!!! :D I'm so glad you had such a great time! Your pictures are fantastic too!

YESH. I saw them at a festival three years back. Really glad I did (my friend had to drag me away from Damien Rice), because now I only need to see Blur of Albarn's bands. :P

Aw wow!! So lucky. That is just such a fabulous album. I'd love to have the opportunity to see them live.

Ok so here is my Gorillaz show collection of highlights/story/review:

The whole show was fantastic, I enjoyed every song, even those which aren't my favourites sounded incredible live, and I danced and cheered so much aaah, I must've looked insane.

Highlights included-

De la Soul's enthusiasm throughout the whole show

The brass section for Broken, which added even more awesome to a song I already love

Mick's dancing to the Syrian orchestra

Paul's effortless coolness and guitar mastery

The strings section on Clint Eastwood, which is genius

The inclusion of Punk!!, Plastic Beach!! Tomorrow Comes Today! which were all ace

The stained glass window visuals for Demon Days, and that song as a stunning ending in general

Damon's energy throughout- there were these speakers in front of the stage and he was jumping from one to another!! And also jumping on Cass's drumkit and other crazy antics!

Glitter Freeze sounded so good live, there was a kind of crescendo of all the instruments towards the end which sounded awesome. Bobby Womack was on top form too. White Flag was great- the bit where the syrian orchestra goes into Kano and Bashy's bit was so great. Donacamatic sounded really good too, and I think it got quite a good reception given that it's really new still...yep I pretty much loved it all.

I mean, I'd seen so many videos of their live performances, and heard stories from this tour, but seeing it right there just made me appreciate the songs tenfold becasue you could see and hear all the creativity that went into making them, and the skill and passion of the musicians playing and singing. Everyone on stage looked so into what they were doing, it was wonderful.

If I remember any other bits I will post!

It sounds like you had such a great time. It is amazing how the recordings just don't do them justice. When you hear it live it just blows you away... God I wish I could go back and see them again!

Their schedule really is crazy. I don't know how they do it. They must be exhausted!

Excellent description :wacky: I totally agree with everything you said!! They all put on a damn good show, that's for certain!!

I wanted O Green World so bad too! And yeah no idea why they did Amsterdam in the middle of the London dates. However I know they had to cancel a few dates too and I bet a lot of this crazy scheduling is just out of their hands, it's probably the one of the only times they could use the venue in Amsterdam or something, who knows.

Thanks guys!

Gorillaz covered The xx! :bomb:

I think the cover is pretty good. Damon's voice is really good and he maintained a low tune throughout which kept the feel of the original song and yet made it sound different, but maybe not a totally 'Gorillaz-style'. The glockenspiel (I hope I got the term right) used instead is quite a good change too. The whole change of instruments to keyboards etc, I like it.

And once again, Damon's voice :bomb:

90438_fullsize.jpg

90406_fullsize.jpg

Haha, what the heck, Daley's hair.

^^^^ Daleys hair LMAO :laugh3: Damon looks wonderful though

So yea, I shall attempt to put everything together now from my Gorillaz show  its not half as exciting as some of your experiences seeing as some of you met people from Gorillaz but I'll do my best :laugh3: Anyways, I got into VIP, which was pretty much like a VIP Lounge area, a fancy bar and eating area with alot of rich, snobby people from what I saw  definately not the likelihood of any of Gorillaz turning up in there. I had a standing ticket so I went through and saw a bit of Little Dragon supporting before Gorillaz came on, she sounded pretty good and I may have to look into one of their albums now, did anyone else see them? I'm not sure who they had as support elsewhere on the tour....

The visuals for the show were so amazing! Obviously I'd seen them before on TV from live performances that they had done, but its just seeing that screen in front of you and in the atmosphere of the venue and with the music. When I first started listening to Gorillaz for me it was all about Damon and his talent, but seriously, I appreciate Jamie so much more than I used to, just all those different visuals, bring so much to the show, and allows the animated characters to still be part of the show, and people can see this large, instant imagery, no matter where they are in the venue. Damon seemed so happy! But never did I feel like the show was all about him, it seemed so, equal and neutral, if you see what I mean, even though its essentially his music, the show seemed to be more about a whole experience and idea, and giving that to the audience, rather than showcasing himself and having a group of people behind him. It seemed very much about a collective of people. Damon though, darting about the stage, and talking to the audience so so much, and I would like to think he was extra happy too, not just because of Gorillaz, but because he was home and he could see his family :nice:

I personally cannot see Damon giving up Gorillaz anytime soon, he seems so in his element and loving every moment of it, what does anyone else think? My highlights, well pretty much every song was a highlight for me seeing as I'm a keeno fan  but especially Kids With Guns, Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc, Clint Eastwood, Demon Days. But there is too many really! I have never really loved Dirty Harry as a song but I really loved that live, the more popular songs were more enjoyable because the crowd got into it more, it is a tad annoying that they played amazing album tracks that not everyone would have known or loved but there you go, not everyone listens to albums religiously I suppose! I loved the fact that Daley came on :laugh3: the song got a good reception so hopefully it will do well. I really hate how the show went so fast, seriously it felt like 1 hour not 2 hours. Damon talked about how people cannot imagine how much organisation goes into putting them shows together, you could just tell how proud he is of the whole project :nice: and apart from the fact that I'm rather short and tall people got in the way sometimes, it was really amazing and I want to go again :wacky:

Yea, I think thats everything

^ Thanks for your story!

I know what you mean about the album tracks- I read a comment from someone saying that they'd heard someone say they should've ended on feel good inc+ clint eastwood, but I think demon days is the most perfect ending- and going to a gig isn't just about hearing the singles! Some people just seem to view the hits as the 'crowd pleasers' and disregard the rest, but they are seriously missing the point of going to a gig and of the band itself if that's the case!

As for the future of Gorillaz, I am so glad they've enjoyed this tour and I hope it inspires future albums/tours! I'd love to see where it'd go from plastic beach and what new ideas and concepts there could be...

Ly- Here's some more live lounge stuff (which you guys will probably have seen but just in case)

Here's On Melancholy Hill [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iODSZL7XkQ]YouTube - Gorillaz - "On Melancholy Hill" (BBC Radio 1 - Live Lounge)[/ame]

And Doncamatic [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmrs2neAgGQ]YouTube - Gorillaz - "Doncamatic" Feat. Daley (BBC Radio 1 - Live Lounge)[/ame]

Yes, a dvd would be wonderful!

Excitement! Which show are you going to? I am now going to live vicariously through other people's gig tales...

I totally agree, Demon Days is just so perfect, and the stained glass visual is so wonderful to go with it, exactly, if you go to a particular band show you have to expect a bit of everything that they do. I havent seen these videos yet from radio 1, thankyou! I shall watch them tomorrow, bit late for me now

It sounds like you had a great time! I totally agree with you about it being a collective thing. It's not a Damon + band thing, it's just a group of musicans making the best music - there's no ego or any of that shit. That's what I really love about it.

I agree with you as well that I don't think we need to worry about Gorillaz going anywhere. I think they are having way to much fun to give it up.

^ Thanks for your story!

I read all your Gorillaz stories and I'm happy you all have a good time. That makes me more exiting for my tomorrow and tuesday shows!! Perrine and I will sure have a blast.

I've yet to listen to Little Dragon...

Yea I definately did! Exactly, its just like this amazing fusion of musical styles from different cultures.

I'm sorry I don't have the time to read any of your reviews, but i hope everyone had a blast!

Also, fine pictures :}

Glad you enjoyed it, i'm hoping to see them as well, reading all of these reviews. Making me anxious xD.

I read all your Gorillaz stories and I'm happy you all have a good time. That makes me more exiting for my tomorrow and tuesday shows!! Perrine and I will sure have a blast.

And I hope (well I'm sure) that everybody who's going to see them will enjoy the show. :)

2 f*cking days squeeee! Hope I'll find some time to post a review, or I'll let Liz do that for me

See you guys!

Both of you, have a fantastic time and enjoy the show :).

So yeah, i think i shall post this:

Rhinestone Eyes was intended to be the next single off Plastic Beach after On Melancholy Hill, and storyboarding began even before the On Melancholy Hill video was officially released. In interviews this year Jamie had indicated that the videos would form a continuous story (including, in particular, the interview with Time Out Beirut in which he said it was intended the story would play out over 'four or five' videos). Rhinestone Eyes was already being promoted in the USA from early June via Gorillaz official promo partners All Access and promo CDs had been pressed and circulated. However, before the video went into production EMI indicated to Gorillaz that they would not fund it. This was probably down to poor chart performance of Stylo and On Melancholy Hill, and a lack of backing for Rhinestone Eyes. Plastic Beach itself has, even considering the overall downturn in music sales over the last 10 years, performed poorly commercially in comparison with the s/t album and Demon Days. (although it has sold around 265,600 copies in the UK, 351,179 copies in the USA, and well over 1 million copies worldwide).

Ultimately, the Rhinestone Eyes storyboard was tidied up and used as live visuals and a new single Doncamatic was picked instead.

Sad news indeed, would have been a great video...

WHAT??? :furious:

That makes me angry indeed. Stupid EMI.

Rhinestone Eyes is a better song than Doncamatic anyway imo, not that I have anything against Doncamatic.
