WHEN PETE’S GOOD, HE’S REALLY GOOD

By Richard Godwin, Evening Standard 06.10.06

Pete Doherty’s famous girlfriend Kate Moss made the briefest of cameos at Babyshambles’ gig in Brixton last night.

As on earlier dates on the tour, Moss joined Doherty on stage to lend vocals to his song La Belle et la Bete. Looking every part the rock chick, she ran on for the choruses, chirped self-consciously and almost inaudibly, then ran off, waving her arms like an excited schoolgirl.

Perhaps more surprising was Doherty’s refusal to play the Beast to his girlfriend’s Beauty. Doherty has always been more little-boy-lost than rock’n’roll monster - which is why your mother secretly fancies him - and it’s strangely heart-warming when he’s on good behaviour.

Here, he was almost - whisper it - professional. He arrived bang on time, looking meek and bookish in a V-neck sweater, and launched into a tight, energetic reading of Pipe Down from Babyshambles’ first album. He went on to lead the crowd through matey chants in honour of his first love, QPR, and led his band through an improvisation that, surprisingly, sounded pretty good.

The most serious thing he abused all evening was a harmonica. It was an oddly good-natured evening. Chris Evans, who was in the crowd, said: “I’ve never met nicer people.”

With no punch-ups or drugs busts, the focus fell, unusually, on Babyshambles’ music. They still essentially sound like a pub punk outfit, blessed with the odd memorable melody, though the new songs aired here were impressively solid. Doherty has clearly been listening to a lot of reggae in between reading Emily Dickinson.

Of the more familiar material, Albion inspired a lusty singalong, while F**k Forever inspired abandon worthy of that very sentiment.

Still, it was hard to ignore the fact that the crowd gave the biggest cheer of the night to Time for Heroes, the only song by Doherty’s first band, The Libertines, that made the set.

See, who the crowd really want to see up on stage with Doherty isn’t some spotty supermodel, but his old Libs sparring partner, Carl Barat. If he can keep up the good behaviour - who knows - maybe they’ll get their wish.

Babyshambles cancelled their Liverpool gig yesterday due to exhaustation and apperantly they cancelled Glasgow as well.

Edit: I SERIOUSLY ROCK. The least technical person in the world and I manage to rip and upload :smug:  LMAO!

October 07, 2006

BUST-UPS, a ripped coat, “wasted” photos – just another quiet night out for PETE DOHERTY and KATE MOSS then . . . The couple started their evening at Pete’s BABYSHAMBLES show at Brixton Academy, where Kate wiggled her bottom on stage during their duet for La Belle Et La Bete.

But when they returned to her north London home later, they had the mother of all rows, which led to Pete’s coat being torn.

He stormed out at 3.30am, half-naked and wearing only a pair of jeans – and half a jacket.

Sources tell me the cause of the couple’s big bust-up was Pete being back on tour – and presumably back to his old ways.

The pal revealed: “Kate is angry Pete is on the road so soon after being in rehab. He is clearly back on drugs and she can’t see how he can stay clean on tour.”

Pete scarpered to a pal’s place in east London. But after persistent calls from Kate, he relented and she sent her driver to fetch him at 6am.

Then, as Pete approached the house, she had a flunkey load up a car with her cat, his guitar and a couple of paintings before meeting him at the end of the street.

I don't like Pete Doherty, I don't like The Libertines, not my thing. But I also think this man is ill, and slagging him off is a bit harsh. He has had problems with drugs and he needs it sorted out.

Oh and he's also not the first person in the music industry to have a drug problem so I don't see what the big hoo-ha is about.

I don't like Pete Doherty' date=' I don't like The Libertines, not my thing. But I also think this man is ill, and slagging him off is a bit harsh. He has had problems with drugs and he needs it sorted out.[/quote']

Then why doesn't he just disappear and leave us all alone until he has??

actually, i have to agree with Mark at this one (OMG WTF)

Pete Doherty is a sick asshole. since i saw him injecting an unconscious girl and making a lot of another crap, he is a sick asshole. but i wouldn't mix his personal life and his band's music

no-one can deny that Libertines and Doherty were/are very much influential. all those Razorlights, Kasabians, Monkeys come from Libertines and Strokes. it's the new wave of modern British indie pop/rock after all. it's another story that i find all these new british indie bands aka "NME bands" crap...

[opinion]the biggest problem with these "NME bands" that they are only successful in UK, they never could and never will make any success in US. probably, the main reason why they are successful in UK is magazines like NME and Q who write extremely overrated reviews of their albums[/opinion]

although, i can understand the fans who are "pissed off" because of this thread. i wouldn't like if someone would slag off my favourite band not because of THEIR MUSIC ;)

 Thank you Therese!

Yeah, I call him Peter as well. Sometimes Pete will slip out when I'm typing fast then I'll get annoyed with myself :laugh4: I really pity those people. That thread really makes me not like Coldplaying more than I already do. If I didn't have people on here that I like a LOT, I'd be gone (plus I've got the CCC to help run!). I just feel like some people on here with a lot of *cough* posts happen to be ego maniacs who think it's ok to slag off someone with no facts backing it up. Like  <--that is so condescending to me. I can't stand someone pretending they're better. I have a very short temper in that regard ;)

And I like how you corrected Mark and he was just like "oh well then..." to make ANOTHER insult when it's obvious he was wrong the first time. Instead of just saying "Oops, my mistake then! Well, I'll check out some of the songs you recommended then get back to you..." cuz that's what the big people do. That's what I did, because I despised "Pete". Then I fell in love with Peter.

People are flipping stupid and I have no time for them anymore. They can fucking shove it up their asses when their heads aren't busy being up 'em.

Anyhoo.

Therese, are those three links all with the same thing uploaded, or do I download all three? :D

actually, i have to agree with Mark at this one (OMG WTF)

The only person being slagged off is "Potty Pete".

It was his drugs habit which almost certainly caused the break-up of The Libertines.

Plus his "performance" with Elton John at Live8 just has to be one of the most embarrassing of all time.;)

His behaviour is absolutely disgraceful - it shouldn't be condoned by anyone.

Therese, since we have the same slashy mind, you have to check out this video my friend Kelli took in Oregon..... Keith Murray stripping down to molest the whole of Art Brut.

Seriously, watching this, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah.... I know it has next to NOTHING to do with the Libs, but those of you who read some of the links Therese put up before.... well.... you know that this signifies the TRUTH:

:stunned:

They are for the same thing but I just figured that sometimes people can't download from some sites :laugh3:

THIS GIG IS POSTPONED AS PETE DOHERTY IS SUFFERING FROM EXHAUSTION. AS FAR AS WE ARE AWARE, THE REST OF THE TOUR IS ALSO CANCELLED BUT PLEASE CHECK WITH INDIVIDUAL VENUES.

This better just have to do with the Frog tour :veryangry:

Okay, that sounded selfish but I truly understand Peter being exhausted, fucking hell. He didn't even have ONE day off after getting out of rehab until they started the tour.. And looking at it, they've played what? 9 gigs in 12 days..

The only person being slagged off is "Potty Pete".

hmmm...you were calling Babyshambles new single or whatever terrible, correct me if i'm wrong. and ehm, yes...

Because of their association with drugs' date=' I think [b']both of them[/b] are completely uncool!!;)

yes, it's uncool, but it has nothing to do with music. i know people who dislike Pete and adore The Libertines, because they JUDGE MUSIC.

His behaviour is absolutely disgraceful - it shouldn't be condoned by anyone.

once again, has nothing to do with music. i dislike his personality, too, but pick out music from personal life

it's a MUSIC FORUM, and NOT "The Sun" forum

Yeah, really, that makes total sense to me too. Poor guy, especially when coming out of a really rigorous stay in rehab, it's dangerous being constantly stressed out. Makes you revert to things you shouldn't. I'm sure this is for the best.

Poor fans though :( Ah well, that's the liability with 'Shambles tickets I 'spose.

YOU'LL BE FINE THERESE *holds* We'll get through this. You will see your shambles!

Thanks Nik, I totally agree.

I'm not trying to say that anyone should respect Peter, I mean whatever. That's not my decision to make for people. But leave the fucking music alone. The music has nothing to do with the drugs, and I say that with total authority.

hmmm...you were calling Babyshambles new single or whatever terrible' date=' correct me if i'm wrong. and ehm, yes...[/quote']

Well I do think their music sucks, but Babyshambles are basically "Pete" anyway.

yes' date=' it's uncool, but it has nothing to do with music. i know people who dislike Pete and adore The Libertines, because they JUDGE MUSIC.[/quote']

Well if Chris Martin behaved like Pete, I wouldn't respect him, either.

But you never see photos of Chris "high" or drunk or staggering around shirtless in the street, because he's respectable.

That's one of the attractions.;)

Coldplay are basically Chris Martin anyways.

On the contrary, the board is open to all sorts topics and discussions. There are just as many people on here who can't stand PD as like him.

IMO, he's extremely overrated.;)

I hope for my own sake that they do play does European dates but at the same time I think, for the sake of the band (and the band is more important) it's better if they take a few months of so Peter can get used to being clean and his new life, and maybe make that second album..

I am just glad I didn't book traveltickets yet cause they costs as much as the actual gigtickets..

Coldplay are basically Chris Martin anyways.

I think Guy, Jonny and Will would have something to say about that.;)

I think the Guy' date=' Jonny and Will would have something to say about that.;)[/quote']

I think that Drew McConnell, Adam Ficek, Mik and the lot would have something to say to YOU about THAT.

Stop talking out your ass based on stereotypical information. You see my point? Thanks.

And I think that Adam, Drew and Mik would have something to say about you saying that Babyshambles are basically Peter.

(IT'S PETER WITH AN R!)

DUDE. I KNOW. LIKE. UM. OH MY FUCKING GOD. HOTTEST SHIT EVER.

I just owned Mark in the other thread :laugh4: Shooooove it

i don't get how does this fit into this topic

IMO, he's extremely overrated.;)

thanks to NME, first of all

I think that Drew McConnell, Adam Ficek, Mik and the lot would have something to say to YOU about THAT.

Stop talking out your ass based on stereotypical information. You see my point? Thanks.

So how come Pete's the only one you ever see or hear, then?

IMO' date=' he's extremely overrated.;)[/quote']

Again, you can't say that if you haven't heard the music.

But if you go into the 'Other band links' I posted both Libertines albums a couple of pages back. Listen to them and then say that again.
