@THis World Cup is a filthy mess of a disgrace!!!

What the hell did Zidane think he was doing???? That was so dangerous! Just an inch on the wrong direction and he could have killed the italian.

The final was going so well up until that point. A few dives but nothing like what we've seen previously.

I get fed up with people sometimes. turn round and do that and I'd be arrested for abh at the very least

Yeah, if he hadn't done it then France would have won. It isn't even debatable to say that they would have lost.

Italy won because of a stupid mistake - that is all there is to it.

On the otherhand maybe Zidane was lucky and put some money on Italy. :/

lol

I'm glad someone started this thread, or I would have...as you may have read in a couple of my other posts today, I am heartily and deeply dissappointed with the entire World Cup this year. Not because the teams I cheered for lost...France, for example, worked very hard to secure their defeat. The whole event has been riddled with cheating, bad calls and BULLSHIT! The World Cup has lost some of its magic for me...sad. It's starting to remind me of the NHL...that's a joke...kind of...

people who jumped on the train now (=started to pay attention to football) at the WC might don't know that this cheating exists for such a long time

this WC was really good. better than 4 years before by miles

Zidane you fool. What a sad and pathetic way to end your career.

He'll always be remembered for that now. Such a shame for such a great player...what the hell was he thinking!?

France should have won that game...they played miles better than Italy. Fuck.

I think that's what bugged me most. The rest of the tournament was riddled with cheating and outrageous behaviour, yet the final was going really well. It was exciting, and there was some brilliant football being played. then in seconds it all descended into farce because one player, who with all his experience ought to know a hell of a lot better, decided to act like a thug.

Whoa I cant believe what he did. DISGRACEFUL!!! What an idiot. He could have broken that guys ribs.

Just so pathetic he did that on the last game of his career.

Well done Italy!!!

Well, I'm not saying you're wrong. THis is just my opinion. But I've been following the WC since 86, and I still feel this tournament was missing alot of the usual 'fair play' mentality. Of course, it's never perfect or fair, that's just the nature of Sport. It's played by human beings who cheat and make mistakes. This one just felt more negative overall to me.

It's such a shame for Zidane to say goodbye with such a thing.....

to leave the game because of a red card.......big big shame...

all these little cheats will be forgetten in a very short time as they were after every big tournament. this year players didn't cheat more than they did in Korea/Japan...though some players' acting like C. Ronaldo's was disgusting.

this year's WC was much better than Korea/Japan's...just take a look at the referee performances...4 years ago the refs were terrible, so it was a big progress this year

AND.....just take a look at the host country...:laugh4:

Joke...I don't want to sound arrogant...

why did Zidane have to resort to headbutting? Why? The game was going on perfectly fine and I just knew when he got that red card that this wasn't going to end very well. It's so sad for Zidane to go out like this. I mean, what was he thinking? He only had to control his temper for awhile longer. It's not like the Italian held him back much or did anything to provoke him to that extent.

France should have won and Trezeguet...shame that happened

The World Cup.

No, its not a disgrace, there has been no more diving than the last time and this has become part of football all over the world so its not going to stop just because players are playing in the world cup.

the game went well tonight. i though the referee did excellently, although i thought the overall standard of the refereeing in the tournament was pretty poor. they were giving way too many cards out.

i'm pleased Italy won as i thought France were pretty poor for most of the tournament, although Italy weren't that brilliant either ..

Zidane, well he has wrecked his whole footballing reputation with that. People will remember a great player, one of the best, but they will also remember the disgusting behaviour he showed tonihht.

My conclusion of this world cup is that it has been enjoyable and better than 4 years ago in South Korea and Japan. However, i thought most of the big name players failed to perform to their best level and subsequently the 'better' (on paper) teams like Brazil, Spain, Argentina & England didn't have a World Cup to remember.

Rating of World Cup: 7.5/10

As much as I condemn what Zidane did in the final... It will be his football skills and his awards and trophies I will remember him for. Too good a player to judge on one moment.

Best post on the subject so far!!! I remember being less frustrated at the refs 4 years ago, but anger fades with time, so maybe I'll be saying that in 2010 too...lol.I did enjoy alot of elements of this year''s tournament...and Germany did a GREAT job as host country. I'm glad the refs let the final match run without alot of interruptions...some of the best reffing all month. It wasn't all bad...i'd give it a 6.5/10.

Zidane = big talent, super playing + idiotic acting

he gets red cards like today's every season at least once or twice...shame that it's his last official game

Roll on South Africa 2010 :)

One thing I noticed though, once you got to the final 8, they were all teams in the top 20-ish rankings in the world. Unlike Euro 2004 where greece won when they were around 78, and in 2002, where you had South korea, turkey & usa in the final 8 which were surprises.

I'm disppointed by his reaction, but we cannot forget who he is : a great, very great player and a very good man!!! :\

Materazzi should says somethin very hard to do Zidane doing that!

Everyone makes mistakes in the heat of the moment, and as you said, He IS a great player. I'm sure history will forgive his error in judgment...but it's still a sad way to end a career...

Yes, anyway, in France, he will stay our hero

Glad to hear that not all fans are fickle...I was so sick of the Beckham-haters!!!

In France, we can't say something really negative about him!
