I am not sure if apply in all the cases, but I also heard something like Julia said in the first place.

This theory talk about the unconsious search of a couple who have the similar things with their fathers.

Some woman want that kind of protection and comfort that brings the father figure.

The way I see is not that crazy, cause normally or at least almost all the times, the fathers protect and somehow overprotect their own daughters.

I am not saying that girls are looking a copy of their father, but in a lot of cases, the father figure is have a strong presence when girl are looking for a boyfriend.

Besides that when women are looking for a boyfriend, sometimes they try to find a person that her father could aprove, someone how could have similar hobbys, ect, ect.

But is just a theory

This topic has totally creeped me out. Any girl who's liked me quite a lot, if Ive met their father, the first thing I think is "This guy seems alright, hes a lot like me actually".

Well, its only happened maybe 3 times but STILL, creepy. :stunned:

Actually, this makes lots of sense... :stunned:

It really does Fredo, a LOT.

Also though, whenever some guys have a mother who they absolutely adore and who the mother has protected so much (Yknow, the term 'mummy's boy', -just look at briggsy) well people always say "So now you're going to need a girlfriend who's just like your mother..."

Same situation really.

I think fathers are tougher on sons, and mothers are tougher on daughters (In most cases), so if you are a girl you have protection from your father, and a boy has protection from his mother and discipline from the father.

Thats' absolutly correct Reilly.

Moms always are more soft with sons.

And our mothers always solve our problem and mess and are more patient with us that our fathers.

I've heard once that when you're a child under 10 and you're a girl, in most cases, you're more related to your father rather than your mother...And if you're a boy, you're more related to your mother rather than your father...Then it gets changed after the kid reaches 10 years old and the son gets more related to the father and the daughter, to the mother...Something like that...

The more my parents have tried to protect me, the more I pull away from them. So seeing as I barely see them anymore, they are super-protective because of all the time theyve been missing out on.

Its hard to just chill out with them these days, I get asked a million questions about important things, how I'm doing with rent, car insurance, work, studies, TV licensing, council tax, bladda yadda yadda.

So I cant really relate to any of this at all because Ive never embraced protection from either of them.

Everyone should just answer the question: Do you look for a boy that is like your father in many ways?

/Do you look for a girl that is like your mother?

A: No, not at all. I like my mother in her motherly role, shes a real nice lady, but a girlfriend who acts a lot like her? Ahg, I'd go nuts. I'd need someone more laid back who generally doesnt care what I do.

Unless I want a guy that smokes weed (or any drug for that matter), is a manwhore, and is a friggin' perv, then no. I don't want a guy like my dad. Well, that was my dad in high school...

My dad is just lame now. And I'm not looking for a lame guy either.

Well I hate my Dad, so not looking for a guy like him at all

Well I hate my Dad' date=' so not looking for a guy like him at all[/quote']

Ditto.

Random thought that came to my mind randomly tonight before I went to bed and after we picked up my drunk Dad from a celebration.....hahah

First I thought about our neighbour who was with him and his behaviour when he is drunk and then I thought about my Dad and that he is quite cute when he is drunk....

and then this thought came to my mind " Are girls looking for a man who is like their father?"...

I think I've heard that somewhere but I'm not sure anymore

If so then I won't be too unhappy I think....:P

Yes that's it

Like my father? No

I did not realize how sad is this topic, but I did now.

It seems all our parents are not good enough.

I can not complain of my father or mother even if they are not perfect but they are good

The question is: We would be better parents that the ones we have now?

I'm happy with both my parents... But I don't want a guy like my dad.

I think that I'll be like my mum when I'm a mother (which is a good thing in my case) but I'll try to make some improvements in some areas...

^ It is a bit sad that so many people have problems with parents..

yeah, bloody hell. i just opened this thread and already i'm getting depressed :\

i don't think it's a question of whether our parents are good enough for us to consider wanting someone like them. we all have different experiences/backgrounds etc that make us want/avoid certain characteristics in our [potential] partner.

i can't even begin to explain what i want in a partner without falling into a circle of contradictions. it's complicated, like everything i guess.

i love and admire my parents, and my dad has a lot of qualities i like, not everything, but that is not to say my dad isn't good enough. he is perfect for my mum.

Are you asking people to jump off a cliff?

I don't get your sig...

Sorry, could you explain it to me?

Because it sounds creepy...the picture...

I don't know... but I'm pretty sure of smth...

Boys are looking for girls who aren't like their sisters. :D

  • 2 years later...
Freud pretty much said we want to have sex with everyone.

This!

I never knew my father... so does that mean that I dunno what I am exactly looking for?
