Alright, so I am back from the show at the Echoplex last night. First off, I will say that you will probably find a lot of good videos and pictures online as most people in the crowd spent the entire show with their cameras and recorders high in the air taking pictures and videos. This is good for posterity, but kind of sucked for watching the show, as the stage was not really elevated that much.

Since you already know the setlist, and have seen some of the video, I will just give you some of my impressions. First, seeing the Eraser played live makes me wish that the studio version had less of an "electronic" and processed sound. Every single song from that album works well in a live setting, and it sounded far more organic and fresh than on the actual studio album.

Although the Echoplex is a small venue, everyone was packed so tightly toward the front of the stage that it became uncomfortable. After 3 or 4 songs up close, I decided to drift towards the back of the room. This turned out to be a good decision, as I located myself right next to a couple of speakers. It was here that I just dropped my head, closed my eyes, and listened. I picked my head up on occasion to see what was happening on stage, but I spent most of my time just in a trance. It is almost like it was too difficult to watch what was happening on stage and really appreciate the music. It was like sensory overload.

The highlight of the show for me was Harrowdown Hill. It is my favorite song from the Eraser, and I don't think I need to explain why it was so good - just look at the video above. Need I say more?

The best new song, for me, was Lotus Flower. The vocals in that song are amazing.

All in all, it was an amazing night. I wish it was longer, but I am so thankful to get what I did.

NOO!

I don't think that was anything near as good as Radiohead.

good, though.

Its funny, I liked the Eraser before I really checked out and listened to Radiohead. So the solo stuff always holds a special place in my heart. Given the choice between a Radiohead show and a thom yorke show I'm not sure which I would take.

wow! I'd have to go w/ Radiohead, but then again looking at these shows he's been playing that decision might be getting more difficult to make

Radiohead's Thom Yorke debuts new band in LA

Frontman plays 'warm-up gig' with members of Red Hot Chili Peppers and REM

Radiohead's Thom Yorke debuted new material with an all-star backing band at an intimate venue in Los Angeles tonight (October 2).

The frontman rolled out several tunes with the new band, which featured Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, REM collaborator Joey Waronker, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, and producer Nigel Godrich. Tickets for the last-minute "secret" gig at the Echoplex were at a premium, selling out in a matter of minutes and reportedly being scalped online for as much as $3,000.

Yorke was in incredibly high spirits, dancing, smiling and even joking with the audience, which included Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, actresses Rosanna Arquette and Ellen Page, famed producer Rick Rubin, and members of Neon Neon and Cold War Kids. "Welcome to the 'rehearsal,'" he said, miming air quotes in the air with his hands.

He kicked things off with the title track from his 2006 solo album 'The Eraser' before seguing into 'Analyse' and running through the tracklist of his debut full-length. The band kept the pace, adding layers to the material and breathing new life into it.

Flea, who began the evening playing nonchalantly off to the side of the stage, gradually moved toward centre stage, sharing the spotlight with Yorke while jamming on his bass guitar. At one point in the evening, a member of the audience shouted, "Play some Skynyrd!" Yorke responded by flashing both middle fingers, saying, "You think I should be playing Stone Temple Pilots too?"

After a rousing 50-minute set, the band left the stage. Yorke returned for what began as a solo encore, performing the piano-based ballad 'Open The Floodgates' as well as 'Lotus Flower' all on his own. The din of the crowd could be heard above the quiet tunes, which prompted Yorke to say, "If you want to have a chat, go fuck off outside, all right?" The crowd cheered and then quieted down.

After struggling through the opening notes of a couple of tracks (the only evidence that this was, in fact, a rehearsal) Yorke invited the rest of the band back on stage to debut several new tunes that showcased almost tribal rhythms augmented by synthesizers and his distinctive falsetto.

"This one is brand, brand, brand, brand new," Yorke said of several of the tracks, which were received positively by the audience. The band ended the night with an explosive version of 'Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses'.

Thom Yorke played:

'The Eraser'

'Analyse'

'The Clock'

'Black Swan'

'Skip Divided'

'Atoms For Peace'

'And It Rained All Night'

'Harrowdown Hill'

'Cymbal Rush'

'Open The Floodgates'

'Lotus Flower'

'Skirting On The Surface'

'Judge, Jury, Executioner'

'Paperbag Writer'

'The Hollow Earth'

'Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses'

Yorke and his new band are set to perform two more shows in Los Angeles at the Orpheum Theatre on October 4 and 5.

These lines could be seen in the Scrapbook section of radiohead.com since 2004, and they suggest that there is some kind of connection between 'Bodysnatchers' and another song, that would appear on the september 2005 blackboard, 'Skirting On The Surface':

Wow

I love the videos!

Thom yorke! Quit radiohead!

Silly girl.

Radiohead 4eva! They have many, many more masterpieces to make ;)

But, granted, if I had to pick to see either a Radiohead gig or a Thom Yorke tomorrow, i'd go for Thom. Simply cuz I'd love to see/hear the Eraser stuff. And I've seen Radiohead like 10 times now.

How would you rank the post-In Rainbows Thom Yorke/Radiohead songs?

Here is my list:

1. The Present Tense

2. Open The Floodgates

3. Lotus Flower

4. These Are My Twisted Words

5. Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses

6. Skirting On the Surface

7. Super Collider

8 The Hollow Earth

Haven't listened to Judge Jury & Executioner, Harry Patch, or All for the Best enough to rank.
