I wonder what Dawkins has contributed - in the way of original thought - to either the scientific or philosophical communities?

He's a great advocate for atheism, but beyond that I'm not aware of any particularly novel concepts he has advanced.

Let me quickly toss this bit of red meat out there for you evolutionists:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haldane%27s_dilemma

Haldane's dilemma is a serious mathematical impediment to my belief in the current model of evolutionary biology. As it stands, I don't think anyone has come up with a sufficient explanation about why the speed of evolution in higher vertebrates is so breakneck relative what the numbers show is possible.

Please take the time to read this first post and pray that prayer to God at the bottom of it if you haven't yet.

I'm a Christian, a true Jesus follower. I believe that we were created by God to love and be loved by Him. And I do wish that everyone would accept it, because it is truly wonderful. However...

I'm not going to shove threats and judgement in the face of somebody who doesn't believe what I do. The true message of Christianity is love, not judgement. And though I do believe that life is pointless and hopeless without God, I won't shout and curse at you for not believing. All I will do is continue to love and pray for you.

But honestly...who doesn't want to be loved and accepted?

I've always had faith in God, i was raised by my grandparents and they are extremely religious, and when i was younger if someone dared making fun of this theme i was the one defending this Faith and feeling pitty for those who didn't believe.

But then "God" took my father and later my godfather (the 2 most important men in my life, next to my grandpa) and i tell you, i never felt so empty and faithless.

Last year i studied History of Culture and Arts, and we were able to study the advancement of catholic church through times, and i couldn't believe what a lie it is... Those poor Iluminatti, all they wanted was making everyone see the miracle of science, Galileo was even a religious man and respected Church, but they all ended up burnt and tortured by the Church.

But remember not to judge Jesus and christianity by the church. I mean, do you think Jesus would've condoned the horrors of the early catholic church? or any of the horrible monstrosities people have done 'in the name of God'?

"life is pointless and hopeless without God..."

^ might wanna edit that ;)

Oops...haha. Thank you my friend. :D

Okay, but... who assured you he really existed?

Nobody did. But the fact that we have experienced Him is proof to us that He does truly exist. It strengthens our faith in Him. And by experiencing Him you'll start to see Him work in ways that only He could do. I know it sounds weird...but it's true!

nobody is right or wrong when it comes to religion.

People argue waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much over religion.. i think its pathetic.

This thread still going?

Organised religion is one of the worst things ever invented

nobody is right or wrong when it comes to religion.

Good point. To someone who actually believes in God, it's the most important issue there is. To someone who doesn't believe in God, it's the least important issue there is...but what are those who have a real relationship with God to do? It would be cruel and heartless NOT to warn people of what God has said in His word.

Yeah you're right, lets all just stay ignorant to issues that really matter and talk about shoes, yaaaaaaaay

Im not saying we should ignore religion, its more we shouldnt judge people based on what they believe or their lack of belief. People force religion to often on people and then try to argue that theres is the right one.

well nobody knows what happens when we die.

then againl. we could talk about shoes or other subjects that matter

To someone who doesn't believe in God, it's the least important issue there is...

No you're wrong.

Religion affects everything with it's fucking disease like spreading and mind controlling abilities of the drones who follow it.

It's not an unimportant issue at all, religion has a lot of say in important issues.

I can and will judge people on what they believe and you are lying if you wouldn't do the same, you just have a soft spot for people who believe in Yahweh (The Christian God), if someone told you that Zeus was the main god and that you would suffer the wrath of Hades, you would not treat them like a sane person. Why should a follower of Yahweh get special treatment over someone who believes in a different god?

Religion isn't all about the afterlife, far from it, like I said in my previous post, it has influence in WAY too much, the growth of Evangelicals in American is scary, if it keeps up at the current rate, they have the ability to completely swing a vote in favour of the Republicans, brainwashing children to vote Republican, using it as a political tool is only one of the major influences religion can have on the world

lest we forget the pope not allowing Africans to use contraception as they were all converted thanks to religious aid groups only supplying aid if they agreed to take up a new religion and then the new rules were forced upon them. The spread of AIDS in Africa is more than partially religions fault.

brainwashing children to vote Republican

Yes because only one side does that....Extremist on both sides is the enemy.

The spread of AIDS in Africa is more than partially religions fault.

How many people with AIDS got that because of the Pope doing this? Thats far more of a issue in Europe and American then in Africa.

Let us not forget millions that die from diseases carried by mesquites that could be prevented by letting Africans use DDT. Extremism on both sides is the cause of mass death and problems, but no zealot will admit to this.

How many hundreds of millions have been killed by governments? or tortured by governments?

I could equally argue government is just as or even more evil, yet you'd back them up no matter what. How are you different then this frodo nut? You both support things that have caused mass murder and mass harm upon the world.

I did a huge study on the spread of AIDS in Africa, sure it's not all Catholicism's fault, but that did pretty much destroy any hopes there were of sorting out that issue.

Since when was I a big government supporter? I am not a fan of war and killing, I'm very liberal.

Yes I'm sorry I do tend to generalise when I get ranty about religion, I have nothing against people who feel the need to believe in a personal god, as long as it doesn't cloud their judgment and they don't preach it to others.
