This thread is worrying about death and heaven and all sorts. Instead of worrying about what happens, or anything like that, I am going to concern myself with my life now.

Life is short comparatively, no point spending time worrying or thinking about stuff for your entire life just for a big unknown factor at the end.

I am an Agnostic, and my personal belief is heaven and hell to me are what we make of our lives.

okay, i wasn't trying to offend anyone with what i said, and i apologize if i did.

i don't believe in heaven. i don't believe in hell. i don't believe in god.

does that make me any different from anyone else? no. personally, the whole subject makes me very very angry. why are we all wound up in pleasing our 'creator'? why are we all wound up in getting to 'heaven' when we die? don't you just want to enjoy your life right now, and know that whatever happens to you when you die happens because you were who. you. are. "god" doesn't define who you are. i mean, come on.

hate me all you want. but that's what i have to say. i'm not coming back to this thread.

God On Trial: a new 90-minute drama for BBC Two – Wednesday 3 September 2008, 9.00-10.30pm

God On Trial is a 90-minute drama for BBC Two written by Frank Cottrell Boyce (Welcome To Sarajevo, Hilary And Jackie, 24 Hour Party People), his first television project in ten years.

Cottrell Boyce's script takes as a starting point the story that prisoners in Auschwitz, their faith tested by their suffering and the barbarity of the Nazis, put God on trial.

In the drama the charge is that God has broken his covenant with his chosen people to protect and care for them; the trial takes place in a camp blockhouse over the course of one day around a selection of those prisoners who are going to be taken to the gas chamber.

This looks like it could be really good. I'll definitely be watching it and hopefully a few people here will too so we can have a chin-wag about it afterwards...

History books are written by winners, nobody ever gets to hear the losers story

Did anyone watch God On Trial?

No, I didn't see a point in listening to a question being asked that is already answered.

We are part of that which we ascribe to God, and can affect a better outcome; sometimes even in the simple acts of generosity or kindness. But life in our universe is governed by laws of physics, and when instruments of modern man's creation fail, sometimes the worst behaviors and the worst outcomes occur. Still, for as ghastly and horrible the atrocities of war are, they do not endure, as in the end totalitarian regimes fail, dictators are toppled, and the rightful rule by the will of the citizens is restored. But the ability to resist repression requires both an understanding of the forces that shape the conscience of society, and a concerted effort by all free peoples to maintain their rights against those who attempt to repress them. Did God forget the "chosen people", or did those who are enlightened by the sense of individual rights - the basic human rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, forget their common bonds? As I recall, the NAZIS were busy rounding up and exterminating anyone who did not fit their narrow-minded, ill-conceived, and plain-out wrong idea of who was fit to be human and live. They did away with vast numbers of Gypsies, Poles, Jews, Intellectuals, Slavs, Dissidents, Prisoners of War, peoples of African ancestry, and many other minorities in their insanity. What led to this was a failure of modern society to have intelligent economic relations and governance, and the bad ideas which surface when economies fail. A nation's history often sets a mold, and if the flaws of that mold are not realized by the open-eyed people of the world in time, we all face serious consequences for not seeing those dangers.

But yet the mistakes made have made many of us aware of the risks and the need to value human life, and to respect mutually one-another. At that moment all looked hopeless, and for many it was, but the future wasn't so hopeless after all.

I think the lesson is that we learn; if anything we ascribe to as being part of God is our collectively gained wisdom, so that we may reduce suffering in the world, and improve the ability of all men and women to prosper. In times of uncertainty, to stand together for Life & Liberty, and against fear and those who use fear to manipulate, is essential.

My problem with people who don't believe in A god is that where did all this energy and matter come from? Everything cannot come from nothing, it didn't all just appear, this huge amount of matter that makes up the universe and energy in it.

No, I didn't see a point in listening to a question being asked that is already answered.

What's the answer?

EDIT: Sorry, just remembered your earlier post. Ignore my question.

.......

What?

  • 3 weeks later...

I just think... Cast your lot with those who believe and stand for the separation of Church and State, and the Marketplace of Religion! & lest we have another pres. who thinks god whispers in his ears, and who's values only extend to those within a narrow comfort range, think carefully before choosing. I've seen Sarah Palin's "exorcism", and that was freaky enough!:P

I honestly just dont know what to believe in. The only western religion i can see myself following maybe someday in the futre would be judiasm, But for now Im open to all religions. I just hate when people tell me their religion is the right one or else im gonna suffer for enternity in hell.

once again.. nobody knows the truth of what happens after we die, people try to put way too many facts on religion.

Its one thing to share information about your personal religion and its another to force it on others.

and church and state need to stay separated. No ifs ands or buts bout it.

Did god campaign against the leader or Rome? NO. Jesus chose to help the world by acts of kindness and his salvation, not by getting involved in petty politics. YOU cheapen the bible when you try to bring religion into the campaign.

Trying to fuse your political views to Jesus and the bible only corrupts the church and give satan more ground to use against Christians.

I 've seen the above clip that frodo posted on the news before, and Obama's just making a point that we shouldn't pass jurisdiction using the Bible as your defense (such as those concerning gay rights). I consider myself a Christian and I find far too many religious individuals use the Bible as their guide on what is and is not right when it comes to politics and law.
