June 1, 200818 yr Maybe people's perceptions re: the prices are actually the problem. Maybe they would have been much higher if the band hadn't had their say?? Just a thought.................................. Oh yeah, I know. The band DID say that they wanted to keep the prices lower. Not blaming them one bit (and as was already said, the prices aren't that bad considering). It's Venues, Labels, Promoters etc. that force the cost of tickets up. I know how much the band make AND spends on the average show, and I'm proud of CP for keeping the prices where they are, but an expensive tour = expensive tickets, and I think had they not been quite so self-indulgent, they could have been even cheaper...but that's an issue for another thread,lol.
June 1, 200818 yr I have to admit, I thought the lack of options for seating was very disappointing. I think it's just a way of making people pay who might not if they knew their seat would be right at the back. I mean, me personally, I'll be going whether I'm near the front or right at the back but I think it's a shady way to do things. I have 3 tickets and no idea at all where they are.
June 1, 200818 yr Standing tickets are much more democratic! There are lots of seated tickets all round the O2 Arena (for example), so those who want to sit, can sit. On the floor, everyone will stand anyway, I understand that. However, by selling reserved seated tickets in the standing area, Coldplay are unwittingly feeding a bonanza to the touts, who queue up at the venues to buy up all the tickets closest to the stage. They then resell them at treble the price, thus making more money than Coldplay or the Promoter. With GENERAL ADMISSION STANDING, at least the front stage spots fall into the hands of fans who love the band, and turn up 4 hours early, and not rich people who can pay the touts 150 pounds per ticket! Touts never are able to mark up general admission standing tickets in the same way, because rich folks don't have the dedication to stand in line early, and would rather just pay an extra hundred to get to the front. Coldplay obviously are democrats, and love their fans, which is why the tickets are not 75 pounds, like for the greedy Spice Girls, or 160 pounds, like for greedy Madonna, but it seems that unwittingly, they have played into the hands of the touts and the wealthy this time. I am sad. :(

June 2, 200818 yr The tickets prices for seats are extremley reasonable, just wish there was a standing section too... takes away the excitment for devoted coldplay fans waiting hours before its supposed to start, wondering whether they will get the barrier. loved it.
June 2, 200818 yr Im still gutted at the whole seated only thing. The second tickets went on sale I tried getting some for sheffield, came up as seated only so tried manchester instead. By the time ticketbastard finally loaded up the available tickets the front seats were sold, so now im gonna be stuck riiiight at the back :(

They've all been held back for the VIPs.:angry:

I saw them in newcastle for the twisted logic tour, and it was an awesome gig since you were allowed to stand. seated only gigs are for old folk, not coldplay fans!

Soon it will be the norm in the UK, ticketmaster UK are planning to launch this wholesale. They insist it is not scalping/touting, they are merely offering fans an extra option for securing the best seats without needing to go to a secondary market-like ebay.

June 3, 200818 yr Welcome to our world. They didn't have standing on their last tour and they won't on this tour. Oh you can get first row, if you want to pay $1,000 per ticket. Why would the band want a bunch of rick dickheads who know fuck all about them up at the front instead of fans who are more than happy to spend all day in line for a first row chance. It's when I see them in the first row, fixing their make up and talking on their cell phones instead of listening to the band. I always make sure I throw a cup of $7 beer at them, because I'm petty like that.
June 21, 200818 yr Getting tickets is no longer a pleasure, which is a sad thing for all of us - seeing your favourite band should be exciting from the minute you buy the ticket. The glorious ticketmaster let me put my details in etc, press buy to then tell me it had sold out. Turned out for the best as got better tickets through a credit card company!!! Shouldn't be like that though. I'm sure as hell not sitting down unless i'm tied to the seat....

I still think for the most popular artists, there should be a ballot system in place (Like Led Zeppelin/Live Earth), where fans register over a period of a week or so, and a draw takes place to draw out the lucky people who are allowed to purchase tickets.

June 22, 200818 yr Really sad the mangement associated with the band can't muster a decent presle program/aka lottery, for true fans. I hate the whole Ticketshafter way of putting the best seats up for auction. I'd be a nervous wreak not knowing if I had enough cash to actually get tickets. I ended up with nosebleed seats for this one when they come to Boston. NOT happy, but at least I'll be there.

I've only ever had seats at two out of eight or so Coldplay gigs so far, and the ticketing (through TM) in those cases was a farce, just as it has been this time. All other times I've stood, but quite near the back, so I didn't realise quite why people have been so upset about this until I got so close at the BBC and Brixton. The lack of a pre-sale and thus priority ticketing for fans is my major gripe, but the lack of standing (and the killing the touts are going to make on the front seats as a result) is a very close second.

I was just reading the interview with Chris on Coldplay.com about how the band themselves have spent four months agonising over every tiny little detail of the whole tour, so I don't think the band can escape criticism either. I've only ever had seats at two out of eight or so Coldplay gigs so far, and the ticketing (through TM) in those cases was a farce, just as it has been this time. All other times I've stood, but quite near the back, so I didn't realise quite why people have been so upset about this until I got so close at the BBC and Brixton. The lack of a pre-sale and thus priority ticketing for fans is my major gripe, but the lack of standing (and the killing the touts are going to make on the front seats as a result) is a very close second. Lack of a fanclub presale + $100(not including TM charges) tickets = even MORE expensive ticketmaster auction starting prices. Its all ridiculous really, and this is a band who plays the shortest setlists of any Major touring headliner.
