Well we don't know who it was.

We know footballers do this kind of thing.

It's not really news.

I said only last week that it would be going on right now. You didn't want to talk about it then, but now just because this has happened you think it's massively important, when we don't even know who it is.

We could have had the same discussion last week without knowing about this.

Anfield Service Marks 1989 Hillsborough Disaster

_52180734_anfield_pa_466x260.jpg

Thousands of people are expected to attend a memorial service at Anfield to mark the Hillsborough disaster.

Ninety-six Liverpool fans were crushed to death during the team's FA Cup semi-final tie with Nottingham Forest at the stadium in Sheffield on 15 April 1989.

Kenny Dalglish and the Liverpool squad will lead thousands of people at the service.

A minute's silence will be held at 1506 BST, the exact time the game was abandoned 22 years ago.

Screenwriter Jimmy McGovern and Liverpool MP Steve Rotherham will give readings at the service.

The union jack will fly at half mast over Liverpool Town Hall, where Lord Mayor Councillor Hazel Williams will lead prayers and a minute's silence at 1200 BST.

On the day of the tragedy, Liverpool supporters were in the Leppings Lane end of the ground.

South Yorkshire Police, which oversaw the event, opened a large exit gate and many Liverpool fans went on to the terrace.

This left the fans inside trapped between people entering the ground and the metal fences at the front of the stand.

An inquiry blamed a lack of police control, but no-one has been prosecuted

honestly never heard of this before and i don't think i like it.

IIRC teams which get into the Europa League this way start right at the start at the First qualifying round (so they have to play 6 games even before getting into the proper competition), so it cuts down pre-season time.

Didn't Man City get into europe that way a few years back?

It's rare to see Rafa Benitez show such emotion so to see him choked up as well really put a lump in my throat.

I feel that it was also after everything he went through at the club that being back at Anfield for the first time today just was too much for him. I was so angry and upset when he was sacked last year. If Dalglish for some strange reason isn't offered the full time position i'd love to see rafa back in charge. But I do think rafa will be involved with the club again at some point in the future

Shouldn't of watched it again, still find it hard to accept he's not at the club anymore

Rafa's fight against the owners was admirable and incredibly brave. He was running a club that was being run into the ground by two idiots who did not have a faint idea of what was going on. Sure some of his signings in his last couple of years at the club were questionable to say the least but there was no doubt over his dedication to the job.

And Mark yeah I saw him on FF last week (second time he'd appeared on the show in). It's obvious that when he talks about the game he has an extremely intelligent view on it.

I just find it hard to believe that one season we finish 2nd and come closer than ever before to our 19th title and then the next we don't finish in the top 4 and barely got europa league too. I've always compared it to a similar situation to ferguson's first few years with the mancs, he nearly got them relegated but turned it round into a very successful club. I think this is what was happening with Rafa and with new owners in now who are clearly showing commitment and want to bring success to Liverpool Rafa would've given us the success we've missed for too long. Once Alonso went that was when the affects of dumb and dumber started to show in an obvious way (especially with the money from the deal).

It's scary to think that Liverpool were days away from being forced into administration by RBS in October. It took a big decision by John Henry and FSG (then NESV) to buy the club and clear the £350 million debt with their own money. I couldn't ever have envisaged that situation being bestowed upon the club but it just shows what dreadful men were running the club.

And he also appears to have a lot of integrity, which is great to see, particularly in the superficial world of "showbiz" football.

Still a shit manager.

yeah he's a shit manager, he only managed to get Liverpool into the european cup final twice in the space of 2 seasons and winning one, an FA cup, 2nd in the league, a charity shield, runner up in the carling cup, runner up in the world club championship and managed to stop the owners doing a lot more damage to the club than what they already did. He was the worst manager in Liverpool's history

at least the future is starting to look bright again, as long as we either keep dalglish or get a young, good manager in we look set back on track for the greater things we were starting to achieve again until last season

As well as winning back to back La Liga titles with Valencia and a UEFA Cup victory in 2004. Shit manager indeed.

And he did all that before he became a shit manager, I wouldn't even want that bitter little man near my Newcastle, don't give a fuck how many trophies he's won and Pardew hasn't.
