The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread

Ok I've been talking to some Argentine friends and this is actually a HUGE deal. People are really furious with the director of the AFA. He's really corrupt (he's a good friend of Sepp Blatter, that should tell you something) and he pays the owners of the clubs to get votes on issues like this. The entire country is against it. Really sad day for Argentine football.

OK.. so are they gonna play 78 games a season ?? or 39 still its pants ! and out of order and bad for football in your country !

Yeah Josh how on earth can this work?

I'm sorry guys, the information I gave you was wrong.

River is going to play the second tier this season. The first/second tier merge will only happen next season. Unless River gets relegated to the third tier this season, they will play in the first tier next season.

It's a bit like the "Forst Green can never go down" rule in the conference, if they finish in the bottom 4 than the league does what it can to find any reason to kick out other teams to make sure Forest green survive to the next season

So..FC Barcelona vs FC Bayern Munich today. Any predictions? I think it should be something like a draw or 1:0 in any team favour :)

So Sergio Aguero going to Man City for £38m. Thought Atletico would hold out for 40m. Let's hope he does better than most of the other big money City strikers of the past 3 years.

Jo - 18m

Roque Santa Cruz - 18m

Robinho - 32.5m

Mario Balotelli - 18m

Craig Bellamy - 14m

Emmanuel Adebayor - 25m

Edin Dzeko - 27m

Carlos Tevez - 32m

Total - £184.5 million

184m spent on these players in total. Only Carlos Tevez had been a success you could argue out of all of them. Take the Aguero fee and that's £222.5 million spent on strikers alone in three years. They really need Aguero (I'm sure he will be) to be a success because a lot of that money has gone down the drain.

Manchester thanks you once again Sheikh Mansour , without doubt the best football club owner in the world !!

That list is shocking, and Tevez only really had 1 consistent season and he's still probably going. To be fair Balotelli would probably be considered a decent success if it wasn't for his attitude and general cockery.

If you take balancing the books into account, without a doubt the worst football club owner in the world.

For strikers alone as well is what makes it all the more shocking. Take midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers as well as some excessive figures (Yaya Toure bought for 25 million and is payed £190,000 per week for example) and in the 3 years since Sheikh Mansour took over that would add up to an eye watering figure which would probably make 222 million look tame.

It's unbelieveable that after all that spending, just 5 miles away a young kid by the name of Chicharito would walk into City's side for just £6m...

So that's that toll officially taken to £222.5 million after Aguero has just been confirmed.

Man City really do haemorrage money and yet it's alright as they've got some farcical stadium sponsorship deal that surely breaks UEFA Financial Fair Play rules in that Etihad and Man City's owners are as close as it comes to related parties which isn't allowed. As far as I know UEFA are doing nothing about it.

You couldn't make this up :laugh3:

This week's riots have affected football fixtures in Britain

Riots place doubt over opening Premier League weekend

The Premier League will decide on Thursday if this weekend's opening round of matches are to be postponed after another night of rioting.

Riots have taken place around the country since Saturday, stretching police resources. A joint statement from the Premier League and Football League read: "We're in talks with our London clubs, the police and authorities. A further statement will be made after the situation is reviewed on Thursday."

There are three Premier League fixtures taking place in London on Saturday, all at 1500 BST: Tottenham v Everton, Fulham v Aston Villa and QPR v Bolton.

Tuesday's statement added that "there is no reason to think any matches outside of London will be affected", but it was released before trouble also flared up in the West Midlands and Manchester. West Bromwich host Manchester United on Sunday at 1600 BST before Manchester City play at home to Swansea on Monday at 2000 BST.

Several football fixtures have already been affected by the riots. England's international friendly against the Netherlands on Wednesday was called off, as was Ghana's friendly with Nigeria at Watford's Vicarage Road, which was due to take place on Tuesday.

Wednesday's Carling Cup tie between Bristol Rovers and Watford was also postponed at the request of the police, following the cancellation of Tuesday's ties at Charlton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Bristol City.
