may i ask why so much hatred for tottenham? is it jealously because they have the coveted 4th champs league spot and are actually doing alright in it? or because theyre still able to perform relatively well without spending squillions on new signings? or is there something else there i dont know about?

It probably has something to do with their constant delusions of grandeur.;)

They've always seemed to think they're much better than they actually are, as has been proven by their woeful record against the "big four'" (please see the statistics provided).

well their 4th position last season went a long way in proving their credibility as a decent club. if they start dancing around like man city and thinking they can top arsenal man utd and chelsea then i can understand the animosity.

They only got fourth place by default because Liverpool were so poor (by their standards).

Fourth place is definitely up for grabs this season, of course, but I can't see anything changing top three-wise.

Whatever way you look at it, so far neither City or Spurs appear to have the consistency needed to finish any higher than fourth.;)

the Brum derby is nothing to write home about, I think its about time attention was switched to the Northeast derby :dozey:

Bugger we lost.. Wolves out played us. !

Newcastle 2-0 Sunderland after half an hour, mackems' defence all over the place!

Newcastle 5 - 1 Sunderland

Kevin Nolan scored a hat-trick as Newcastle thrashed Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park.

Nolan opened the scoring with an overhead flick before tapping in a second from Andy Carroll's ball.

Shola Ameobi added a third from the spot after Nedum Onuoha had tripped Jonas Gutierrez before Titus Bramble was sent off for bringing down Carroll.

Ameobi then volleyed in his second and Nolan headed in his third before Darren Bent smashed in a late consolation.

Torres produced another subdued display before laying on the winner for Maxi

Bolton 0 - 1 Liverpool

Maxi Rodriguez toe-poked an 86th-minute winner as Liverpool won at Bolton to move out of the relegation zone.

Fernando Torres missed two first-half chances to open the scoring, while Steven Gerrard shot wide and Bolton's Stuart Holden had a volley well saved.

Liverpool lost Joe Cole to a hamstring injury but responded well with Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Maxi both going close.

Bolton pushed for a winner but it was Liverpool who go it, Maxi prodding home after a sublime flick from Torres.

The results - Liverpool's first away victory since they won at Burnley in April - sees Liverpool jump from 18th to 12th in the Premier League table.

Roy Hodgson's men are now just three points behind fifth-place Tottenham and five adrift of Manchester City in fourth.

And it is victory that will fill them with confidence ahead of Thursday's Europa League meeting with Napoli, which precedes the visit of Chelsea on Sunday.

Bolton will feel hard done by after a performance full of energy and ambition, but they were ultimately punished for a lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Boosted by a timely victory over Blackburn last Sunday, Liverpool knew a point would be enough to take them out of the bottom three and Hodgson opted to name an unchanged starting XI.

That meant Torres was deployed as the lone striker with Gerrard, Maxi and Cole in support - and the foursome looked dangerous from the outset.

Hodgson had not overseen an away victory since the opening day of the 2009-10 season - when he was Fulham manager - but his team were full of attacking intent and they dominated the early exchanges.

Eight of Liverpool's previous nine league goals had been scored or created by Gerrard or Torres and their pair almost continued that sequence when Torres rose highest to meet Gerrard's corner but directed his header over the bar.

When the pair combined again a few minutes later, Liverpool should have taken the lead. A delicious lay-off from Gerrard sent Torres scurrying clear, but the Spaniard tried to turn inside Gary Cahill and a poor touch enabled the defender and his goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen to avert the danger.

Liverpool were getting forward in numbers and a couple of crosses from left-back Paul Konchesky troubled the Bolton defence before Jaaskelainen reacted quickly to race off his line and prevent Torres latching on to Maxi's through-ball.

Bolton managed to emerge from that spell of pressure unscathed and soon began passing and moving with the confidence of a side who came into the match unbeaten at home this season.

One particularly eye-catching move saw Holden meet Kevin Davies' flick with a sweetly-struck volley that startled Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina.

The hosts wanted a penalty after for a challenge on Chung-Yong Lee by Jamie Carragher, and they were appealing again when Paul Robinson's left-wing cross appeared to brush the same defender's arm.

Liverpool finished the half on top, Gerrard shooting wide from a promising position after being teed up by Maxi, but it was Bolton who made the more sprightly start to the second period.

Unfortunately for Owen Coyle's men, Liverpool were able to comfortably repel everything the Trotters threw at them.

The momentum briefly swung back in Liverpool's direction but, similarly, they struggled to carve out significant chances and suffered a set-back when Cole was forced off through injury.

He was replaced by striker David Ngog and the Frenchman's arrival - prompting Liverpool to switch from 4-2-3-1 to 4-2-2-2 - seemed to benefit the Reds.

Kyrgiakos glanced a header just over from Gerrard's corner and Maxi's overhead volley was narrowly too high after a Gerrard cross and Torres knockdown.

Poor performance but where the team is I'd take anything! Next week - Chelsea. Should be a doddle! :D

Oh and massive congratulations to Newcastle. They were outstanding and Chris Hughton goes from strength to strength in my book.

Well Bolton are megadire, so that shouldn't really have surprised you!

I know :cry:it's going to be horrible tomorrow!!

Only if you're a Spurs fan:P, luckily I'm going to be cheering on the Nerazzurri:laugh3:

Seems like its all going pants at Man City again.

Surley something must be going on, however offically they deny it.

I would say out of the crap that is printed about City only 3 % of its true though, however there is a a whole pile of shite printed about them each day combained it would be enough to even fill a number of boradsheets.

At this stage, I am standing firmly with Mancini and wont be calling for his head for a long time yet, and I hope I never do like I was with Mark Hughes even though back then I had many other reasons in wanting him to go.

I will not tell or even suggest want Mancini should do, however he should consider taking SAF lead and banning all the media or only letting in the ones that give true and postive stories about our club, then anything else that is produced will be known as false.

BTW well done to Newcastle you beat a team I hate even more than UTD almost !

Thanks Daryl, just remembered I forgot to reply to your PM the other day (No hard feelings over football).

Looks like City could do with getting Bellamy back...............................

BTW well done to Newcastle you beat a team I hate even more than UTD almost !

i like it how you put utd in capitals. whenever i write "man city" i try to find a way to make the writing even smaller. but its usually not worth the effort.

MILLONAIRE footballer Robbie Savage has enraged fans by claiming all players deserve their whopping wages.

The Derby County skipper compared salaries of Premier League stars to those of other sportsmen and insisted they are worth every penny.

Swaggering Savage, who lives in a £2.5million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire, joked he did not get Halloween trick or treaters at his door because his driveway was so long no-one would dare walk up it.

The 36-year-old ex-Welsh international, who presents 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live, sparked a bitter Twitter row with angry fans, who told him soldiers and emergency services staff should be paid more than him.

His views have infuriated fans across the country.

Savage said: “We get hammered a lot, so I’m on there giving a footballer’s viewpoint.

“The most common complaint is footballers earn too much.

“Nonsense. I defy anyone who gets offered it to say no, no matter what job you do.

“We’re lucky to earn good money and we work hard for it.

“It is not our fault that we were good enough to play football and get handsomely paid for it.

“I do work hard for it. The rewards are there if you do, so don’t tell me I haven’t worked hard for it. I would say every player I have played with has earned his money.

“Why is it always footballers who get criticised for the money they earn?

“A top darts player can earn £1m a year. A cricketer £1m for two months, a golfer £7.4m for one tournament, a rubbish boxer £3m for one fight, a sprinter £400,000 for an appearance, a tennis player £800,000 for one week.

“But it’s always footballers who get criticised.”

Savage then Tweeted: “Thankfully no trick or treaters tonight! Seen the length of the drive and thought against it.’’

The row was sparked by Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney’s new £200,000-a-week pay deal.

According to boss Sir Alex Ferguson, 68, the 25-year-old star is “resting” and will not play for another five weeks, by which time he will have earned £1m.

Savage decided to use Twitter to defend fellow players’ massive wages.

But one fan blasted back: “So you saying guys in the army, fire service and police force don’t work as hard as you? Seriously get a grip!”

Another said: “There are so many people who work so hard and risk their lives all year for what is a day’s wage for a football player.”

Another messaged Savage: “The fact is normal people work hard for peanuts and then footballers get paid daft wages for kicking a bag of air around for 90mins.”
