LOL, you are the one who brought up the band's opinion on X&Y. But you are right that it really does not matter what a band says or feels about their album. I doubt any band goes into the studio thinking -- "let's create a crappy album." As to Fall Out Boy, I don't put any value into their opinions. After all, their primary lyricist (Wentz) just married Ashlee Simpson (nuff said about their tastes :rolleyes:)

Bah, record sales don't mean anything. Again, Linkin Parks new albums sold tons, doesn't make it great. Also, i never said Coldplay went into it thinking they were going to make a terrible album. But bands make music all the time, where they thought it was great at first, but years later realized it was no where near their best record. Sigh, a Masterpiece? Hell no. :p

 

As far as the bands opinion goes, I did bring it up. But my point is, regardless of what they thought (even if they said it sucked, or said it was great) - it all comes down to what YOU think.

If you enjoy the album, don't let anyone else tell you other wise (including me). :)

it's weird that its such a close call... but it's because the songs happened to be paired with the wrong ones. on the whole (lol) i love love love VLV a lot more than i do X&Y, which is my least favorite album. not saying it was bad, just of all the other stuff Coldplay has come out with, it has my least favorite songs. but if you think about it, if they hadn't released something like X&Y, they wouldn't have created VLV... its all about progression.

You know..I am seriously going to have to eat my words. I mean this full heartedly. I haven't listened to X&Y in some time. I just got done listening to it, and it's MUCH better then I gave it credit for. I've heard X&Y god knows how many times, but I have to say, time really aged it well with me (the long break of not listening to it).

 

I still think Viva La Vida is a much better album, but...I think I might actually love X&Y.

 

Talk about a revelation!

X&Y wasn't their best, but it was a helluva lot better than most of the stuff that came out in that year. And it still has some quality, spine-tingling songs on it. :nice:
