It's a smog trap, which is unfair to athletes with breathing problems.;) Yesterday there were even cyclists who got off the plane wearing smog masks.;)

She's Britain's best athlete and the best female marathon runner of all time, who's also now had a baby. She's extremely newsworthy.:smug: The fact she's achieved what she has while being an asthma sufferer is incredible. I read her autobiography and therefore know what she's had to go through to get where she is.;)

What with the whole Chinese censorship thing and the pollution in China and the way they've acted towards Tibet and Taiwan....some kind of boycott should have happened...but of course, nobody would ACTUALLY do that...I mean, come on...it's the olympics, right? :dozey:

August 7, 200817 yr It's a really poor choice of venue,i would like to know who approved beijing as the venue when there are so many problems,the smog being the biggest one,how can you expect world class athletes to perform with that amount of air pollution? They no doubt will also damage their lungs and therefore not be able to compete at the level they trained for!!!!! Plus i hear some of the places they built are falling apart..............

Everybody is going to be under the same conditions, so basically the smog is just going to be another factor in the competition. Athletes shouldn't blame the air if they don't win a medal. Having said that, the level of pollution in China is beyond disgusting...

BUT... (lol... i'm never happy...) ... i have lived long enough in England to understand the press. and if Paula doesn't win they won't blame her as she's the national star. no, it's the pollution and bad conditions in China. and this is rubbish. as already mentioned -> every athlete has to compete under the same conditions. so the press actually has to blame her if she fails. btw, British tabloids have an odd understanding of "failing" as they r already dissatisfied when she comes 2nd. and this is even more rubbish as a 2nd place would be genius for her! so hopefully she comes under the first 3!!! ;)

She got a lot of criticism for dropping out in Athens, although it turned out she had been feeling unwell before the race. no, it's the pollution and bad conditions in China. and this is rubbish. as already mentioned -> every athlete has to compete under the same conditions. ;) Actual weather conditions, maybe, but the bad air isn't a natural phenomenon and therefore isn't fair. I find it much harder to breathe during a run even when it's humid here, so I can only imagine what it must be like for an asthmatic in smog!!;)

In fact,Chinese Internet Users's Voice becoming more and more important. You may know the "South China tiger photo incident",that's an important certification!
