Q. Dear all-knowing Oracle,

I'm getting an operation next week and need a TV series/stack of movies to watch while I'm bed-ridden. I'm completely in love with British comedies (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Death at a Funeral) and TV series (The Office, Extras), can you recommend me any TV series or good comedies?

Thank you and I've missed reading your questions over Easter!

The Oracle replies:

I'd recommend the Blackadder box set for your dose of UK comedy but if you haven't already seen it, Flight of the Conchords is genius!

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

What's the best Coldplay song to wake up/fall asleep/say sorry to... I hope this style of question disappears soon, I find them so boring - why can't people just listen to the music and pick their own?

Q. Hello Dear Oracle,

I wnat to apoligise to apologies to some one I really love for something stupid I did, I would like to apologies using some lyrics to one of Coldplay's songs. Which song should I use?

The Oracle replies:

This is in easy one. Trouble is a song that reflects on stupid things said and done so I'd suggest it without hesitation.

Though perhaps finding your own words may mean more to the recipient so tread carefully.

Q. At a BBC radio gig, Chris started playing the Hardest Part on his own, then called it an ego trip. He went on to say two of the guys liked The Hardest Part (one of them being him, I assume) and that two of the guys weren't too fond of it. So who's on what side?

The Oracle replies:

Chris and Will are on the pro side with Jonny & Guy on the other. All members favour the acoustic version though.

That song was another victim of X&Y's overproduction!

& yes, the acoustic version is way better than the album version, also Tom Lord Alge Mix's of What If is better than the album version.

Oh, how I missed the good ol' X&Y rant! :pleased:

Wooo! The Oracle has great taste. Conchords Fan!

And Blackadder too, althought I don't know if that's too British for others

I am a huge Blackadder fan! Its how I first knew Hugh Laurie - and loved him, even now, a hundred years later in House, but still prefer him in Blackadder. Don't really enjoy Rowan Atkinson in anything else but in Blackadder he's awesome! They are sooo funny! Love that humour, even though its not "local is lekker afrikaans boere humour"! British humour all the way!

Yeah, Hugh Laurie got all the best bits - sweet naive George in "Blackadder Goes Forth" and the idiot Prince in "Blackadder the Third":

"Anti-distinctly-minty" :laugh3:

I'm pretty 50/50 about THP... I used to not like it but it's grown on me lately. I prefer acoustic too.

I just think it's fantastic she answered my question. I think I asked this like at least a month ago!

I have always wondered which of the other three liked the song ever since hearing that recording (like you said, one would assume that Chris is one of the two). Thanks for asking the question!

Congrats on having your question answered Kiran :D

I'm alright with the album version, though it never ranks as a favourite song of mine. The piano version @ the concerts though is amazingly heartbreaking and touching

I'm with Jonny & Guy on this one...

I'm on J&G side too!! I was never fond of this song but the accoustic version played during Viva Tour really make me cry...so beautifull!!

Q. O great Oracle, reply to the questions that follow please :)

Coldplay's fame starter was the two songs "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ode to Deodorant" that are on "The Safety EP".

Question 1:

How come "Brothers and Sisters" is available on iTunes and "Ode to Deodorant" is not?

Question 2:

Is there any way for Coldplay to get their older music onto US iTunes?

Question 3: Do you have any idea where I could download "Ode to Deodorant" from?

Please reply!

Thank you,

Sabrina, THE die hard Coldplay fan :)

The Oracle replies:

Neither of those songs were on the Safety E.P although they were songs that helped them on their path.

Ode to Deodorant isn't available anywhere, except the odd copy that turns up on auction sites but as it was never released and only recorded for demo purposes, it shouldn't really be readily available and there's definitely no way it would be on iTunes. I can't suggest anywhere for that rarity.

Unreleased songs from way back aren't likely to turn up on any iTunes at this stage to be honest.

Q. In a previous oracle question, you answered when the bands birthdays were. But we noticed that missed Phil's birthday even though he is the 5th member. So we were just wondering when his birthday was?

The Oracle replies:

I'm sure he'll appreciate the question and therefore won't mind me telling you it's August 29th.

Q. I was on Amazon today and I noticed that some guy named Martin Roach and other people have written books about Coldplay. Are these legit?

I thought Coldplay didn't have a biography?

Please answer to let me know if I should get it!!

Thanks Oracle!!!!

The Oracle replies:

There are a few books available and all are unofficial biographies. There is, as yet, no official book on the band.

No more mention of Roadie being released? I can't imagine Matt McGinn not being able to find a publisher with the promise of his book being the only official Coldplay book and considering their popularity right now...so whats the hold up?

'Roadie' is not an official Coldplay book though and has nothing to do with the band. Don't know where you got that "promise" from?
