Q. Oracle, I was reading the other day that to choose who was the singer for Coldplay Chris, Guy, Will and Jonny wrestled. They did this because they knew that the singer would get all of the publicity. Is this true? Thanks a lot.

The Oracle replies:

There's no truth in that whatsoever.

I think Chris said that during one of the interviews but obviously he was joking around like he always did.

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Random bump but I KNEW I was right and they weren't in the actual film as zombies. Simon Pegg confirmed that they were not zombies in the film and only played themselves at the end.

(interview here from 2 hours in http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00nkb33 he also talks a little about Wembley)

I guess Miss Oracle got it wrong.

Well, that definitely makes the job of trying to find the Jonny-zombie and Chris-zombie in Shaun of the Dead a lot easier.

Thanks for the link to the interview!

SPOILER: Chris Martin of Coldplay, who appears as himself on a news report near the end of the film promoting ZombAid, also plays a zombie. After Shaun and Liz escape from the basement of the Winchester, he can be seen playing the zombie walking past the phone booth from right to left.

guess we all have to watch the movie again. :D

Q. Great Oracle!

I have a question that has nothing to do with Coldplay, but I hope you'll answer it anyway(that rhymed).

I have to go to the hospital for a blood test, but I'm very very very afraid of needles!!! What should I do?

I'd very much like to keep my blood where it belongs, in my body!

Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

Blood tests are sometimes very necessary and so it's best to find the most comfortable way of having them for you. My advice is that you ask to lie down whilst they take blood. Maybe you can listen to some music and have a portable music player with you? It's important to distract yourself so think happy thoughts. Try not to focus on what is happening and don't look. Needles aren't pleasant but they are finer than they used to be and so after the initial sting you shouldn't really feel the actual needle.

Q. Hey Oracle: You recently answered a question about demo's... What I want to know: if say you're in a band- should you look to play a few gigs before signing to a label? And should one immediately send your demo's to a BIG company like Parlophone, or try a smaller company first? Also,I saw that the "Howling Bells" (Aussie band) got signed to a UK company and had to relocate to the UK... Would one necessarily have to move if one got signed to such a company???

Thank you for your help!!!

The Oracle replies:

Following on from yesterday I would always advise artists to play live as much as possible as not only can you improve performing skills but build a potential fan base. I actually think artists these days should be as pro-active as possible.

I don't think one should necessarily opt for a big or independent label; it may be that you have interest from someone who may turn out to be 'right'. I think it's more important to select the most appropriate label for your band and see if it leads anywhere. Very very few bands get signed per year so it's a tough break to get.

Relocation makes sense with regard to an Australian band given the time difference and distance; I would personally advise it though as I can't see how it could work otherwise.

Q. Was Chris Martin ever associated with a band called "The Pectorals"? I was watching "Cash Cab" the other day and there was a question involving Chris and a band called that.

Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

How funny that Pectoralz came up as a question on Cash Cab! Ha! Pectoralz was an alter ego boy band project that Coldplay used to have some fun with when they first started. It wasn't serious and they didn't perform any gigs under that name nor was it ever a consideration to be Pectoralz over Coldplay!

Q. Hey there...

I`m sure I saw Guy here in Sora Denmark yesterday, though I got the sun direct in eyes.

What on earth is he doing in this hole, when all Music-Mecca is in UK?

OK we have -particularly - some young bands here, that is worth listen to!

The Oracle replies:

The only connection between Scandinavia and Guy yesterday was that he was at the a-ha show in London. As you know they hail from Norway but that's as close as he was to Denmark.

Q. Hey Oracle,

I don't know if this was ever asked before, but I've always wondered when watching some live Yellow videos what that guitar Chris likes to use is. That really cute, yellow, teardrop-shaped one? Thanks Oracle!

The Oracle replies:

It's actually named after the shape you like so much; it's called a Gibson Teardrop.

4 questions answered today!

Q. My son Henry who's 4 is having a flu jab tomorrow, my wife says that we should tell him, I think not, what do you suggest?

The Oracle replies:

Personally I think you should definitely tell him but don't make a fuss. If you don't tell him you run the risk of him not trusting you in the future. All you have to do to avoid potentially having anxiety whenever you leave the house is sit him down and explain very matter of fact what will happen and why. I hate injections and if you do too, you may be assuming he will have a fear. Try to act calmly while he is having it done. If he does show signs of distress just remember the flu jab doesn't hurt - perhaps a sting - but may be necessary for a mere few seconds of discomfort.

Q. Hello Oracle :~)

The other day Lone from Denmark asked about seeing Guy. Could it be Guy's twin?

The Oracle replies:

I suppose it could have been Guy's brother (not twin) who as I have mentioned before lives in Scandinavia. I actually suspect it was neither.

Q. Hello Oracle!

Yesterday, I was watching a Coldplay video on YouTube and the boys were playing You Only Live Twice. I'm sure that I had seen the name of this song before but I can't remember where. I looked for it on the Recordings but I couldn't find anything... Was it released as a single, or an EP, etc?

Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

Coldplay used to play a cover of the Bond theme You Only Live Twice live around ten years ago (with a Goldfinger finale). The song was available on the Don't Panic E.P import; it's not widely available and as it wasn't a full release it's not been included in the Recordings section.

Q. Hi Oracle! I'm curious to know if the daily Exhibition Room entry is selected from the current day's submissions, or from all the submissions sent in so far. Or what. Thanks.

The Oracle replies:

Apparently the Curator will choose from all submissions; given it will only display on weekdays yet you can still submit at weekends, that makes sense. Seems we have a competitive Curator; there's already gloating since over 600 entries in less than 24 hours beats the number of questions I receive.

600 in less than 24h :shocked2: That's a lot!!

Their continuous use of code names is getting funny - Anchorman, Roadie 42, The Oracle, Prospekt, and now the Curator. Sounds like they've been watching too many spy movies.

It's true. They're the most secretive band in the world.

Yet she openly talks about where Guy's brother lives

UH-HUH. THAT'S RIGHT, BITCHES. THE ORACLE ANSWERED MY QUESTION. NOT YOURS. NOT YOURS. NOT THE ONE YOU OVER THERE ASKED.

MINE. And I'm not even a hardxcore Coldplay fan.

OH YEAH
