“American Music Awards” producer Larry Klein announced today that two of today’s hottest musical acts, Coldplay and Leona Lewis, will join the outstanding group of artists already confirmed to perform at the live ceremony.

Coldplay and Leona Lewis will join Kanye West, Jonas Brothers, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, New Kids on the Block, Pussycat Dolls, Taylor Swift, P!nk, The Fray and Annie Lennox at 36th Annual AMAs this year.

“We are thrilled to have Coldplay and Leona Lewis, both first-time AMA performers, on our live show this year.” said Dick Clark productions president Orly Adelson, “Coldplay’s unique rock sound and Lewis’ soaring pop vocals add extraordinary new elements to this year’s superb group of performers.”

The show will broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. Live on Sunday, November 23 (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on ABC. For the second year, winners will be determined by online voting at amavote.com, so make sure to cast your vote and tune in to catch all your favorite celebrities under one roof.

AMAs sure to be star-packed

For those hoping to see an amazing concert this week, it may be a little tough to find one in our neck of the woods. With the American Music Awards happening at 8 p.m. Sunday night on ABC, most of the big stars will be performing in one place.

The AMAs are seen as the first of the “Big Three” music award shows, and honor artists based on popularity over quality. It also allows the fans — not industry insiders — to vote for the winners. Created by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC, the AMAs were meant to compete with the Grammys after they moved to CBS. Now in its 35th year, the show is still on the same network, but has undergone a few changes.

For its first 10 years, the AMAs were known for having more than one host. The very first show was co-hosted by Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond, and the Rhinestone Cowboy, Glenn Campbell, has had a hand in hosting more shows than anyone. This year, for the fourth-consecutive year, comedian Jimmy Kimmel has hosting duties and will be in charge of introducing the string of stars taking the stage.

The performers for the AMAs this year are quite impressive. Scheduled to appear this Sunday night at the Nokia Theater in L.A. are Mariah Carey, Coldplay, The Fray, The Jonas Brothers, Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, Leona Lewis, Ne-Yo, New Kids on the Block, Pink, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Kanye West, with most of them also nominated for awards.

Alicia Keys has the most nominations this year, being up for five awards including Artist of the Year. And Mariah Carey will have the chance to pass Aretha Franklin as the female R&B artist with the most wins if she takes home a trophy in either of her nominated categories.

Fans of every musical genre, from country to pop to rap, can enjoy this Sunday’s AMAs. So those looking for an amazing show this weekend, get cozied up on the couch and enjoy the show!

Haha perhaps.

Or it could be that he seems to develop sudden onset stage fright as soon as you expect him to sing in front of socialites and loses the ability to hold a tune .

I think it's probably a mixture of both :P
