Coldplay and the Eagles earned four nominations each. Coldplay was nominated for artist of the year, favorite band, duo or group -- pop or rock music, favorite artist -- alternative rock music and favorite album -- pop or rock music for "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends." The Eagles scored nominations for: artist of the year, favorite band, duo or group -- pop or rock music, favorite artist -- adult contemporary music, and favorite album pop or rock music for "Long Road Out of Eden." The other artists nominated for artist of the year are Lil Wayne, who was also nominated for favorite male artist -- rap/hip-hop music and favorite album rap/hip-hop music for "Tha Carter III"; and Chris Brown, who also received nominations for favorite male artist -- pop or rock music and favorite male artist -- soul/rhythm & blues music. Other artists receiving multiple nominations are Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Daughtry, Flo Rida, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Usher and Kanye West. Voting for the awards is done online via ABC.com's American Music Awards website. The AMAs will be held Nov. 23 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The R&B diva scored a leading five nominations for this year's American Music Awards, nabbing nods for Favorite Album and Favorite Female Artist in both Pop/Rock and R&B genres, as well as scoring a nomination for Artist of the Year. Already the Best Act in World courtesy of Britain's Q Awards, Coldplay is looking for some U.S. of A. love. But US soul singer Alicia Keys is leading the field with five nods. Veteran band The Eagles are also in the running with two nominations, going head-to-head with Coldplay for artist of the year. The awards, which are determined by a public vote, will be handed out in Los Angeles on 23 November. Double nominees Mariah Carey and soul star Mary J Blige are also double award nominees, along with Kanye West, who is a contender in the rap and hip-hop music category. R&B chart-topper Usher is in the running to pick up a pair of awards at the ceremony. R&B singer Rihanna is also up for a pair of awards, shortlisted for best female singer in two musical genres.
