The best song of 2008 (except the Coldplay's ones)

Featured Replies

As the year 2008 has come to an end, I'd like to ask you what song has been your 2008's favourite.

My choice is Elbow's 'Grounds For Divorce'

Grounds For Divorce or One Day Like This. The latter just about wins it for me. This is one of my best moments of 2008:

Ting Tings - That's Not My Name

3 minutes of pop perfection!!! :smug:

Or Kids... or Time To Pretend... or... hell, the whole MGMT album rocks!!!

yes! it's a great album, probably my favorite of this year

i found it interesting that alot of the best artists of the year have not been able to reproduce their great music live on stage. having heard and seen alot of vampire weekend live i found them to be monotonous and bland on stage only saved by an awesome crowd. MGMT are half the band in concert that they are on CD. fleet foxes set the standard way way too high on their album and no matter how hard they try live, it will never sound as good to me. other top artists like Death Cab For Cutie and Bon Iver arent exactly ideal either. and on the home front the guys from Cut Copy arent the most charismatic on stage. all of these band made brilliant albums but in the end i was underwhelmed by their live shows.

here's a song i thought sounds great on cd and live.

and an artist i never thought i would like.

My song of the year:

[ame=http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=IKkT2eOc7DU]YouTube - R.E.M. - Supernatural Superserious[/ame]

That song was originally called something else and Chris Martin came up with Supernatural Superserious!

I guarantee you if you like Coldplay you will not dislike this song. Every Coldplay fan I've played this for loved it:

Raconteurs is great live... saw them last year!

Here's one that nobody probably knows... Ghostland Observatory... did a live show on Austin City Limits... they are great live, and it's only two guys. Sort of like the White Stripes, but more electronica. They put out debut 2 albums in 07 and third in 08 with DVD of the Austin show.

Sad Sad City rocks! I copy the YouTube, but embedding is disabled on request so just go there.

Im with the Elbow crowd. Ground For Divorce, One Day Like This, Mirrorball, The Bones Of You... Take your pick. Then Time To Pretend from MGMT follows closely behind.

first two are disgusting, but Spiralling's got a hook.

I really couldn't choose one, there were so many great songs!

Rue The Days - Young Knives

Evacuate (original version) - The Boxer Rebellion

The Prophet - Shihad

The Architect - dEUS

The Bears Are Coming - Late Of The Pier

Ares - Bloc Party

Someone Like Daniel - Cut Off Your Hands

etc etc...

Just too many

My favorite songs of the year were mostly non-single album tracks, but with a few singles mixed in.

House of Cards by Radiohead (if that counts)

Love is Noise by the Verve

Judas by the Verve

Good Days, Bad Days by the Kaiser Chiefs

This is the World That We Live In by the Killers

Joyride by the Killers

Meg White by Ray Lamatagne (sp?)

Disturbia by Rihanna (I can't believe I just said that)

Oh No by Andrew Bird (though technically that came out just after the end of the year)

If I Never See Your Face Again by Maroon 5

Tonight We Have the Stars by Bryan Adams

live version of "Invisible Sun" by the Police on the new 'Certifiable' DVD/CD

probably more too but I'll have to think. I work in a music store, so I hear sooo much
