The funny thing is, there are other songs, that came out BEFORE Joe's song, that sound eerily similar to "If I Could Fly" let alone VLV. So does that mean those artists need to sue Joe?! Search on You Tube on the topic and you can find tons of comparisons...

The whole thing was just timed right to tie in with the Grammy's it seems to me. I mean, if when he heard it (I presume back in June) and it was sooooo hurtful, then why wait until the Grammy nominations to announce you are filing a lawsuit...

Also, why in the world would Coldplay choose to plagiarise a song now?! They have written tons of songs, and what, now 10 years later they decide to risk everything by plagiarising?!?! It just doesn't make much sense to me! I don't care if he's talented or not, he's super sketchy in my eyes and I hope he loses.

This was made more evident by the fact that Joe's lawyers threatened to hand Coldplay the case at the actual show. I really hope this stuff is being brought up in court, as it really highlights Satriani using this as a publicity stunt.

It boils down to this:

Coldplay have sold more albums and tickets than Satriani. Therefore, they have more money. Therefore, they hired better lawyers and will win.

The case doesn't matter, a great lawyer could win ANY case. Coldplay has better lawyers, they will win.

This is just silly. There is no plagiarism whatsoever. We've heard many songs that only reminded us of other songs, but it didn't mean that someone had perpetrated plagiarism. As far as "Viva La Vida" is considered, two quite similar chords can't testify to plagiarism. I just don't understand the whole situation with Satriani. He just want to get a little famous. That's all. I hope that it'll end soon. This is really frustrating.

I unfortunately voted No.But sorry its Yes from me.;)

Either way this goes, Satriani is going to be hated forever after this by millions of people.

True. He just lost a lot of potential fans who side with Coldplay.

And another thread to talk about the song....................

Yes, let's just keep this in one thread please...

True. He just lost a lot of potential fans who side with Coldplay.

That may be true, but a lot of people are hating on and being turned off from Coldplay because of this as well.

Yeah... When I see CP stuff on other sites, people have added "thieves" to their list of words to describe them now.

^Yeah. A lot of the time now when Coldplay is mentioned on other sites, people will go, "Oh, Coldplay? They suck because they steal music."

I belong to Aerosmith Fan club, have for years, and they have different country threads, and I posted a thread on the United Kingdom place asking if there were any Coldplay fans, I got 4 replies all saying they hate them, and they suck. I can't imagine in England the band seems not well liked. Am I wrong??

Satriani needs to go FUCK himself with his guitar

Agreed!

He NEEDS to get a life!

If I Could Fly is a very very long guitar lick. Of course it's at least partly original. Should Satch sue Coldplay? No. End of story.

I never even heard of this guy until his crazy lawsuit came to light! I know I only recently started playing guitar, but I think my hearing is well enough to know that 'similar' chords doesn't warrent copyright infringment! I mean seriously, I don't even hear that much, there aren't ANY similarities if you ask me. This guy obviously just want $$$ the rat bastard. I hope he gets what he deserves, nothing but a swift kick in the arse! :)

My 2 cents. :)

This lawsuit is just getting more ridiculous. I hope the boys will teach Satriani a good lesson.

Agreed!

He NEEDS to get a life!

Which is why I decided to call him Sadriani, of course!!:D

Really? I don't get that :\ It's their home country!

i never heard of satriani until the law suit, & when i listened to "if i could fly" on youtube there were so many comments & views, it practically trippled in like on week. someone made a very good point saying "i bet he just made this up so that we would all listen to his retarded song." so so true. when i heard it, the first thing that came in my head was "simple kind of life" by no doubt. i love no doubt & know all of their songs, & i seriously thought i was listening to simple kind of life for the first 5 seconds & everytime i heard the "chorus"!!!!!

yes, his shit completely lacks originality. what an asshole & i hope one of us shoots him

[satriani] On COLDPLAY winning a Grammy for "Viva la Vida":

"I'm happy for the group, and in a very weird way, I was happy to hear my melody being celebrated. However, I was slightly confused that NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc.), the organisation which handles the Grammy Awards, would even consider nominating a track which they knew was heavily contested. These are the people who voted for MILLI VANILLI, though it isn't really their job, I suppose."

Can somebody please go punch this guy in the face?!?

Well that seems pretty definitive then - 4 people out of 60 million don't like Coldplay...so yeah, they're not well liked over here at all...

[/sarcasm]

I'm sorry I don't mean to sound rude but four people does not make for a very good consensus and I wouldn't really expect Aerosmith fans to be all that into Coldplay anyway...

Well it is a way different era of music too, and it's a Aero board, but since I have posted this first post, there have been about 20 or so comments and they are all bad, I know it doesn't make for a good consensus these few comments, but I was still pissed they didn't like them.:D I didn't find your tone or posting rude at all:)

oh ok, I was feeling quite sarcastic ...

It's true Coldplay have their haters over here - just like lots of countries - there are some people who hate them, but there's probably more that are indifferent and there's definatley loads more people that like them. It's just unfortunate that the haters seem to be the ones who are more vocal about it.

The Coldplay coverage for tv, radio, magazines etc over here was huge last year for all the Viva build-up. In contrast the new U2 (that everyone supposedly LOVES - not me!) album created a very short lived ripple of attention that very quickly died down. So, rest assured Coldplay are very well loved in the Uk :D - I just wish they were here more often.. :(
